Holiday clothes

Hopefully going on a ‘hot’ holiday this summer and will need to pretty much start from scratch for a capsule wardrobe, as all I’ve got in my existing wardrobe are one very light cotton’wafting’ dress and a couple of well loved very soft cotton shirts.

I’m small and a bit round these days - size 14.

I like the look of Arket linen shorts and trousers, so will go and try those on.

I mainly like black and white in the summer. Any ideas for what I should be looking for? Arket prices are as high as I’m willing to go.

This is a cotton poly mix, £16 after discount - given it has no sleeves perhaps the sweaty issue may not be a problem? Wear with an over shirt?

You didn’t answer my question of what style of sandal you are after but since you mention Tevas I’m not going to be much use as I think they look like fugly stormtrooper sandals!
in fact I think that’s a trait of all walking sandals so yes, perhaps trainers are the order of the day!

I didn’t answer because I don’t know, other than that they need to be as comfortable as trainers!

Tevas are the most subtle of the ugly walking ones imo.

Love the first one @Fedupwitheveryone Think I'll order it.

@QuickNameChangeForMeToday I've never found a pair of footbed sandals that I've found at all comfortable tbh.

Lovely dress @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie
I have a similar style light blouse (in broderie), I hadn't thought of wearing it over a dress but you've inspired me to wear it over a simple black tube maxi dress that I recently got from Cos.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/05/2023 21:26

Thanks @EllaPaella I love broderie in the summer. Sainsbury’s have got a green broderie short sleeved shirt which I’m tempted to try over a black dress.

Thanks @noodlezoodle I tried the printed Next one on at the weekend. Fabric wise it’s absolutely perfect but the print wore me, rather than me wearing it!

I’ve got a couple of those M&S shirts from last year. They’re brilliant.

I also tried the black M&S mini on. It’s lovely but the sleeves were huge.

I very nearly bought the Zara one at the weekend. It’s lovely and light, but the shop was insane and I lost patience before I could try it on!

Zara changing rooms are a zoo. Order it online! It's such a pretty print.

I have gone down a Zara rabbit hole while looking, and now this is in my cart: https://www.zara.com/us/en/structured-kaftan-dress-p00881313.html

Perhaps I'll pair it with this: https://www.zara.com/us/en/feathered-headband-p00653024.html?v1=271327914&v2=2230111

Honestly, the Zara accessories are fully bonkers this season, that's not even the maddest thing in there.

noodlezoodle · 04/05/2023 17:54

I also was about to order the Next one, but they want $82 for it which is an absolute joke given the exchange rate!

The yellow is so pretty.

Love the crazy headband- oh for an excuse to wear such an item!

I really like that yellow Zara dress.
It's very similar to this summer's Muslin Wrap dresses. Also the blue/white print Zara shirt dress is lovely. It's very similar to the m&s shirt dresses in a light cotton voile - I have 4.
What's the sizing like for these?
Anyone know?

I feel the same way about the straw hat with the veil 😮

In my experience Zara can be a bit on the small side, but as that one only comes in xs/s/and m/l then I'm guessing it's probably relatively forgiving - but I haven't seen it in real life yet...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 04/05/2023 20:43

Zara sizing is totally unreliable and unpredictable, which is why I'm trying to avoid ordering online. I hardly ever go in because it's such a horrible shopping experience, but they always have a couple of nice things.

@PieMashLiquor
I just wanted to let you know that Joe Brown dress arrived and looks fab. Very reasonable price. I also bought a tankini and bottoms and they are also lovely. Thanks again

Kangarude · 05/05/2023 16:08

Did you manage to find anything at all @RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

I've linked a couple of things I've bought -
an M&S dress
an Arket linen shirt
H&M linen shirt
I also got a tankini in Bravissimo

Need to find some shorts, but the linen ones I tried looked pretty horrible!
