Holiday Princessing Thread - who’s in?

Anyone up for a summer holiday princess thread? (Apologies if there’s already one, I did have a look and couldn’t see any)

I’m on countdown to holiday in the South of France at the end of July, and have never been so out of shape and lacking in style in my life, so desperately need to get on it. Really don’t want to be the one hiding under a towel at the pool/beach AGAIN!

I’m 45, have 1.5 stone to lose, and want to cut down the alcohol, sugar and coffee, as also want my skin to look better (suffer from regular spots, as well as peri menopausal dryness and redness - yay!)
Other stuff to do: take vitamins/cod liver oil every day / apply lash serum every day.

I began exercise yesterday, with 30 Day Shred session (always worked for me in the past) and dog walk. Today have done a 1 hour PT session.

Anyone else want to begin now, and have a bit of support?

IF is just so easy (for me anyway), feels like you only have to diet a couple of days a week, none of that “Oh Christ, is eating going to be this dull for the rest of my life?” I spent my “fast” days promising myself that tomorrow I’d eat a whole pack of crumpets with a whole pack of butter, but the next day did nothing of the sort! It did make me much more aware of calories during the non-fast days.

Keith Waterhouse used a similar tactic to give up smoking, told himself it was only for today, he’d smoke as much as he liked tomorrow.

waves from Turkey

I've had my first ever massage ! I also had a traditional exfoliating / foam treatment. I enjoyed the pampering. I'm very very soft. I could get used to this.

They microblade brows here for £100 ! Am tempted.

dazzlingdeborahrose · 16/05/2023 15:52

@tigerbear That's interesting. Purely be coincidence, I didn't have anything to eat today until 11am. Will try not to eat after 7 or 7.30. I've definitely eaten less today. My watermelon, avocado and feta salad was blummin' lovely at lunch. 😋

lindyloo57 · 16/05/2023 17:19

Just wanted to say I've been doing the 16.8 eating plan for around 6 months, I do have a cut of tea and a kit kat around 8pm, or a glass of baileys maybe two nights a week instead, but then just a cup of tea at 8.30 am and nothing to eat till 12.30 I've only lost around 4 pounds but I'm 5ft2 and was heading to 9 stone3 , for me I've never weigh over nine stones , my tummy seems flatter and I now weigh 8stone 12, so I think it's works.

MavisMcMinty · 16/05/2023 17:28

It works for me, but don’t find it’s a rapid weight loss, which is probably better anyway.

When I was young I could lose half a stone in a week, not any more!

Merlo · 16/05/2023 18:36

Please can I join? I’ve just booked a holiday for 7 weeks time….not sure that’s enough for what I need to achieve though 😂
The ironic thing is, I booked a holiday to cheer myself up after an awful few months and now am panicking and miserable about ridiculous things like my scaly feet, frizzy hair, wobbly bits and cellulite 😂

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 16/05/2023 18:52

Please may I join too please. My holiday isn't for six months so a decent amount of time (I need it!) to get back to healthier ways and feeling presentable again.

I've been doing 16:8 for a week and while I don't think I've lost weight, it's helping in not gaining any more as I was getting into really bad habits of regular late evening snacks - chocolate, cake, crisps etc so by not eating after 6pm it's knocking that on the head which has to be a good thing.

ImAvingOops · 16/05/2023 19:05

I'm sticking to the 16:8 and also reducing carbs/sugar. Too early to say if it's going to help me lose weight but I'm definitely eating better food - more vegetables, less toblerone!

Bought a hair dye to do this week and some nice nail polish and have done my nails.

MissSusanPevensie · 16/05/2023 23:00

DP is keen on booking a holiday somewhere warm at Christmastime. I'm still Shock at the idea of wearing anything more revealing than tracky bottoms and a baggy T shirt, maybe IF is the way to go...

@OrangeSpicedBun I loved my massage at the Turkish baths when I went to Turkey many years ago!

@ImAvingOops I bought this sparkly nail polish a couple of weeks ago, it's the only thing which makes looking at my toes bearable Grin

ImAvingOops · 17/05/2023 02:31

That's a lovely polish @MissSusanPevensie. I like the Barry M glittery ones, especially for toes

Vebrithien · 17/05/2023 09:28

I've remembered so far, to moisturise my arms and legs this week. Have taken my supplements.

In the process of using up a Weleda daily moisturiser. Not so keen on the texture.

Planning on painting my toenails, either tonight or Friday night.

MavisMcMinty · 17/05/2023 09:30

I like sparkly spangly nail polish but all the ones I’ve tried have been such a pain to remove I can’t face using them.

ImAvingOops · 17/05/2023 10:17

Dyed my hair this morning and am doing a charcoal face mask. Trying to distract myself until 11am when I am allowed breakfast Grin

dazzlingdeborahrose · 17/05/2023 10:30

@ImAvingOops

Me too but I'm at work. Never wanted a banana so badly 😂

OrangeSpicedBun · 17/05/2023 13:52

Hello @Merlo and @TheWeeDonkeyFella I'm a big fan of winter sun (well DH is) We mostly do Canaries but did Dominican Republic in Jan and was best ever

Merlo · 17/05/2023 20:32

I managed my normal 5k dog walk this morning, followed by a 30 minute HIT home workout (not sure I actually complete 30 minutes, but I dragged myself through till the end 😂) Have started IF again today, as I found it really works in the past. My window to eat is going to be between 12-8, but I really need to look at what I’m eating too.
Have just done a hair mask whilst cooking dinner and once DD finally goes to sleep, I’m going to attempt a face mask too. And I WILL remember to moisturise feet, arms and legs before bed tonight!
Is anyone taking photos to track their progress? I’ve never done it before, but apparently you are more likely to keep on target if you’re taking weekly progress pics.
Thank you all so much for the inspiration, and a lovely and gently encouraging thread.

Minnie123456 · 18/05/2023 23:10

Just checking in.
Have a rough skincare routine going. Have been taking my vitamins and trying to get out for a few walks a week.

Healthy eating not going so good. Have used cuticle oil once🙈 need to start using it more as i'm getting my nails done for my holiday and my nails can go weak when removing the polish.

My hair is a complete disaster atm, am at my wits end with it. It's greasy, thin and lank, no clue what to do with it.😭

@OrangeSpicedBun my honeymoon was in the Dominician Republic I loved it, would love to go back.

ImAvingOops · 19/05/2023 09:28

I caved yesterday and ate 5 pieces of orange toblerone. Then I binned the rest of the bar before I could make it worse!
On the bright side though, I'm sticking to 16:8 and taking my vitamins and I went for a long (for me) walk yesterday, made the effort to put on make up so I didn't feel so grotty.

tigerbear · 19/05/2023 10:05

@ImAvingOops that’s the kind of thing I do re eating half of something and chucking the rest 😄But have found that half the battle is just not having stuff in the house that I know I’ll cave and eat. If it’s there, I’ll eat it, if it’s not there, I don’t miss it.

Been a really good week here - exercised every day, did 16/8 most days, and have lost half a stone so far 👍

1 stone to go - have about 9 weeks to go until holiday - is that doable??

OP posts:
ImAvingOops · 19/05/2023 11:22

I definitely think you could lose a stone in 9 weeks if you cut out carbs (except for green veg type carbs).

tigerbear · 19/05/2023 11:46

@ImAvingOops yep, cutting carbs for a little while has worked for me in the past. I just love potatoes too much though 😄😬
But def will try.

Things currently motivating me:

  • the thought of all my lovely summer dresses in much smaller sizes
  • how disappointed in myself I’ve felt before previous summer holidays when I haven’t lost weight
  • being embarrassed and self conscious around the pool/beach and being so jealous of all the slim and toned women (who all seem to have gorgeous tans too!)
  • not being able to wear my gorgeous turquoise bikini, and instead wearing the full coverage ‘functional’ one
  • going shopping for beach and swimwear, and feeling totally shit and deflated in the changing room. Seeing all the fat and cellulite from all angles! 😱

Onwards and upwards everyone!!! 👍

Half a stone is amazing!! Well done, keep going, you can do this!!

Merlo · 19/05/2023 12:10

I haven’t actually dared weigh myself yet…. Going to on lunch break. Wish me luck 😂

tigerbear · 19/05/2023 21:18

@Merlo thank you.
how did your weigh in go?

OP posts:
Merlo · 19/05/2023 22:17

I’ve got a stone and half to loose to be at my ideal weight, but I’d be really happy to lose a stone, so I can just fit back into last years summer clothes and feel comfortable. I’m going to try my absolute hardest to get there in the next 6 weeks.
