Holiday Princessing Thread - who’s in?

tigerbear · 11/04/2023 10:52

Anyone up for a summer holiday princess thread? (Apologies if there’s already one, I did have a look and couldn’t see any)

I’m on countdown to holiday in the South of France at the end of July, and have never been so out of shape and lacking in style in my life, so desperately need to get on it. Really don’t want to be the one hiding under a towel at the pool/beach AGAIN!

I’m 45, have 1.5 stone to lose, and want to cut down the alcohol, sugar and coffee, as also want my skin to look better (suffer from regular spots, as well as peri menopausal dryness and redness - yay!)
Other stuff to do: take vitamins/cod liver oil every day / apply lash serum every day.

I began exercise yesterday, with 30 Day Shred session (always worked for me in the past) and dog walk. Today have done a 1 hour PT session.

Anyone else want to begin now, and have a bit of support?

Camping end of June. Not very glamourous! Lol
I'd like to just feel better so 20 minutes exercise a day running, biking, walking. And yoga or Pilates 20 min. And 10 min meditation.

It's my time of the month and I've broken out is spots, feel bloated, and have gobbled a load of chocolate! Not ideal at all :/

I’m rapidly approaching mine too 😕
I’ve done 2 hours of exercise tonight so I’m going to bed in a min.

Have used up all of Lush Snow Fairy, it’s so sweet but I like it, so I’d buy this one again.

Forgot my vitamin last night.

I cut and painted my nails earlier, cream this time, I like it.

My kids want to go bloody camping too, we’ll probably go a couple times. I might gain weight so I don’t freeze and so the floor feels less hard 🤣

Lol That actually sounds like a solid plan. Maybe I should trade pilates for ice cream.

What is the benifit only eating between 11am-7pm?

For me it's that it keeps my sugar levels at bay. Once I have early breakfast, I am hungry all the time :/ Especially if it's carbs breakfast.

I had good day yesterday. Workout done, diet was OK (no rubbish, just decent meals), bronzing lotion, face mask and then hydrating mask and face oil overnight. I even managed to get proper amount of sleep, but I think I'm coming down with cold, so I'm just bit tired.

OrangeSpicedBun · 25/04/2023 11:03

I love 16:8 /fasting as it stops me snacking and I don't have to count calories if I don't want to (I tend to though). I've also done 5:2 with some success in the past.

We had a weekend away where I didn't fast but I still lost a 1 lb!

I've just ordered a new Salux /Japanese Washcloth from Amazon these alongside Ameliorate really help with keeping my Keratosis Pilaris at bay. Plus lots of Palmers cocoa butter / oil.

I really need to walk more. I love it, time doesn't agree with me though. DH takes the dog out for a couple of hours everyday, whilst I'm working from home though. Lots of seasoned walkers about on our weekend away. I'd love being active to be part of my identity/ lifestyle. I just feel so self conscious at the moment.

I'm exactly the same. I've tried diets where you eat breakfast but once I eat it, it's like I get more hungry and I end up snacking all morning. Breakfast has just never worked for me. I now eat in the afternoon/evening and it's suits me a lot more.

MavisMcMinty · 25/04/2023 12:08

Same! For a while I took microwave porridge to work, believing the TOTAL MYTH that it fills you up and helps you eat less during the day, but all it did was kick-start my appetite!

I never feel hungry until about 5 hours after I wake up. Breakfast is not something that works for me. Don’t believe the hype that it’s the “most important meal of the day”.

OrangeSpicedBun · 25/04/2023 12:46

Plus...I find skipping breakfast so east and saves calories. I've never been one for cereal so used to resort to buttered toast I'd rather save bread for lunchtime and have yoghurt /banana / oats as pudding or something.

Yes x100. I prefer much more to have big meal in the evening. My weight is fine, I need to really overindulge to start putting on weight (mostly with biscuits or pringles, not homemade stew or so). Overall calories intake is what matters, not when it was eaten. Or another one that doesn't work for me: small meals 5x a day. I'm feeling like I have no breaks from eating and digesting when I eat this way.

PeacheyPeach · 25/04/2023 14:23

I'm exactly the same, if I eat first thing in the morning it makes me so hungry for the rest of the day! I can usually last until about 3.30 until I eat, do need to have a coffee to kick-start me in the morning though!

I'm not certain that this is true, but apparently, the 'most important meal of the day' thing was written by Kellogg's as part of an ad campaign. It clearly stuck!

MissSusanPevensie · 25/04/2023 23:55

I would love to join please Smile I have three stone to lose... so fed up of looking tubby in holiday photos!

Another one here not a fan of breakfast first thing! I tend to have a couple of hours up and about and take the DC to school before I'm hungry, I've probably walked around 4.5K by then. I'm thinking of trying fasting - maybe 16:8 or at least 14;10 - if anyone has a (very) simple app they could recommend?!

I also need to keep on top of looking after my unruly hair Confused it's not straight, it's not nicely wavy, it's just Wurzel Gummidge-like if I don't condition it a lot. It's already in need of a good trim and I only had it cut three weeks ago...

Wow😵‍💫 And we all believed it, including dieteticians, who say that if we don’t eat breakfast, we will end up binge eating later on. From what I read here people have exactly opposite experience.

tigerbear · 26/04/2023 16:01

Welcome @MissSusanPevensie !
re the fasting, I haven’t used an app, just stuck to the 16:8, and it’s worked.

@xogossipgirlxo exactly!
by changing having breakfast from first thing to at 11am, it’s really worked - I’ve lost 4lb after doing it for only a week.
Before then, the scales hadn’t shifted much at all!

17 days, 6 hours, 44 mins and 53 seconds until I go away. I need a miracle!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 26/04/2023 19:46

I'm having my hair cut tomorrow which will be nice, however I'm a bit annoyed as I actually took the time to style my hair after washing today and it actually looked quite good, probably could have gone a few more weeks without a cut.

MavisMcMinty · 26/04/2023 20:13

I’m sitting here with my hair painfully wrapped around a weird “no heat curling tool”. It’s about the 6th or 7th time I’ve tried it and I hope practice will make perfect one of these days, but it’s much harder than it looks, all the hair wrapping.

TheExchange · 26/04/2023 20:33

I have two holidays coming up very soon, instead of losing weight I’ve bought lots of fab outfits and I can’t wait to wear them.

PositivePenny · 26/04/2023 22:56

I’m in! I’ll be back in the morning to add my goals!

OrangeSpicedBun · 26/04/2023 23:28

Just taken some magnesium, really really tired today then realised it's pms week.

Done a Kettlebell workout and a dance one. Using up food in freezer so Macaroni cheese ready meal with veg for tea just over my daily cal limit.

Had a nice bath, shave and washed hair. Lots of moisturising etc.

@userxx some transformation is better than nothing at all. What small things would make you feel better?

Just booked Costa Teguise for Jan 24. Winter Sun essential for DH mental health...at least will be better than at home.

Time for bed. Early for me!

Sorry it has taken me so long to come back to add my list to the thread. Received some bad news last week, and it's thrown me off course a bit, so writing my list down for accountability! I'm 44, have put on nearly 2 stone over last 18 months- crept on, so I barely noticed it, but when I got all my summer dresses down from the loft a few weeks ago, I couldn't zip them up - soul destroying. Anyway, here's my list:

  1. Put the phone down - I lose so much time mindlessly scrolling, when I should be doing other, more productive things instead.
  2. Bought a bike machine for the garage - I hate spin classes, but I get a sore knee when I run, so thought this would be better. Been using it for a few weeks, using beginner YouTube tutorials, and I've been enjoying it (can only do 25 minutes, but it's better than nothing). I try to do a 15 min Caroline Girvan arm workout, followed by a yoga stretch, so 50 mins in total. I've been doing this 3 times a week for the past 3 weeks. Need to keep it up.
  3. My skin is so dry. I use oil cleanser, and Cerave products/rosehip oil. I really need to drink more water to help improve it.
  4. Hair is OK- texture has become drier recently, and my roots show after about 4 weeks, but currently only getting to the hairdressers every 10. Using a root spray between visits.
  5. Sleeping has become a bit if an issue. I've no trouble falling asleep, but I keep waking up, then worry about how tired I'll be next day, and can't get back to sleep. Any suggestions?

I could write more, but think this will do for now!

My nails are crap so I'm using a hardener and cuticle oil, hopefully I'll see a difference before I go. Will start exfoliating in the shower from tonight and use a body lotion. Hair is being cut and colured before I go, got a pedicure booked in too. Need to dye my brows so I'll do that myself. Feel a bit more organised writing it down.

Wishona · 27/04/2023 15:17

So I’ve kept using up any old random moisturisers and advent ones. Nearly used them all. On a pure vitamin E oil now.
Also used up St Tropez every day tan in Watermelon- it still smelt of biscuits.

As it’s payday I’m going to buy the hair toner I wondered about, and a new moisturiser. Need more factor 50 face cream.
Might buy a new fake tan. Might buy some nice shampoo and conditioner.

New targets, hair mask and fake tan- I think Friday night might be the best time to slot this in.

Also have £100 in John Lewis vouchers that I’ve had for over a year, need to decide what to spend those on…either a sundress or perfume I think.

Can I join?

We're off to Italy this summer our first abroad hols since before covid so very excited.

Unfortunately the last few years of bumbling through peri menopause mean my hair and skin aren't their best.

Body wise I'm still going to the gym once a week where I do weights. I've started to brave the free weight area and use fixed barbells which are making a huge difference to my upper body and squats so that's encouraging. On top of this I try to run once a week then do 10 minutes of yoga on other days with one day off everything. I've also started to do sets of press ups, bicep curls off the bottom stair and squats at random times at home. Seems to be doing something.

Agree 16:8 fasting works for me. I feel I snack less as it's hard enough fitting meals in but also I'm getting less late night indigestion. Friday and Saturdays though all bets are off Grin

No 7 gradual face tan has come out of the drawer and I try to use it every third day.

Best of all though after having a year of on/off but mostly on, eye eczema or blepharitis - never did really work out what it is - I've been symptom free for the longest time this past 6 or so weeks which is making a HUGE difference to how I look and consequently how I feel.

By the way I'm really enjoying reading everyone's posts and seeing new ideas and inspiration Grin
