Holiday Princessing Thread - who’s in?

tigerbear · 11/04/2023 10:52

Anyone up for a summer holiday princess thread? (Apologies if there’s already one, I did have a look and couldn’t see any)

I’m on countdown to holiday in the South of France at the end of July, and have never been so out of shape and lacking in style in my life, so desperately need to get on it. Really don’t want to be the one hiding under a towel at the pool/beach AGAIN!

I’m 45, have 1.5 stone to lose, and want to cut down the alcohol, sugar and coffee, as also want my skin to look better (suffer from regular spots, as well as peri menopausal dryness and redness - yay!)
Other stuff to do: take vitamins/cod liver oil every day / apply lash serum every day.

I began exercise yesterday, with 30 Day Shred session (always worked for me in the past) and dog walk. Today have done a 1 hour PT session.

Anyone else want to begin now, and have a bit of support?

I’m sitting here with my hair painfully wrapped around a weird “no heat curling tool”. It’s about the 6th or 7th time I’ve tried it and I hope practice will make perfect one of these days, but it’s much harder than it looks, all the hair wrapping.

Mavis what are you using? I tried this recently twice, once with a dressing gown rope and then an old floaty scarf. My hair did look fab the next day but it was so uncomfortable I didn't sleep very well

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 27/04/2023 15:42

I've also started a daily collagen powder. About 3 weeks in so too early to see a difference. It smells weird and isn't particularly pleasant so I'm hoping it'll do something!

So I’ve kept using up any old random moisturisers and advent ones. Nearly used them all. On a pure vitamin E oil now.
Also used up St Tropez every day tan in Watermelon- it still smelt of biscuits.

As it’s payday I’m going to buy the hair toner I wondered about, and a new moisturiser. Need more factor 50 face cream.
Might buy a new fake tan. Might buy some nice shampoo and conditioner.

New targets, hair mask and fake tan- I think Friday night might be the best time to slot this in.

Also have £100 in John Lewis vouchers that I’ve had for over a year, need to decide what to spend those on…either a sundress or perfume I think.

If yours has a skin spa that's an option? Maybe a lovely treatment?

Ah, sorry, can’t remember the brand, but it’s this kind of thing (but different, with baffling shoelace-type strings at the end of the foam “roller”.

Last night’s effort was the best so far, so the practise is helping. It’s impossible to sleep in, for me.

Bit late to the party but can I join. Holiday booked for end of July.

Need to loose weight, I know that none of my holiday clothes will fit as i've put on about 2 stone from our last holiday.

Need to sort my hair out it has went from being quite thick to thinning, greasy and lank, not sure if im starting perimenopause. I have started using rosemary oil but it's too soon to see a difference.

Need to be consistent with my vitamins, currently taking iron, evening primrose, sea kelp, biotin and magnesium, might also start taking collagen supplements.

Going to start using a cuticle oil as my nails are so brittle during to biting them.

They do actually, I didn’t know that. Would need to think about whether I could relax. I have my toenails and waxing done every month and we always end up crying with laughter about something. I wonder if I could switch off.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 28/04/2023 10:14

I'm really happy with my haircut but do need to up my home manicure game. I'm working part time due to stress so can't afford lots of pampering, save the pennies for my eyebrow wax which I def can't do myself!

CordyLines · 28/04/2023 10:41

Hollidays are such a good motivator to do good things and if you feel good you look good.

If it's any consolation, I'm lucky enough to be in Estepona right now and it's hot but absolutely anything goes. Haven't seen much dressing up going on, it's all very casual. No pressure on me so, I fit right in!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 28/04/2023 11:06

Regards manicures .... I find when I do them myself they always look crap because a) kack handed so struggle to file them properly, and b) my cuticles are monsters and I don't have the kit/skill to remove them properly.

I've now started having them filed and cuticle care done once a month at Superdrug which costs a tenner but is absolutely worth it as then I can paint them myself and don't get pissed off when I inevitably chip one on the car seatbelt which I ALWAYS WITHOUT FAIL do.

MIL made a good point to me on the weekend that we are supposed to have cuticles to protect our nail beds. I still think they look better reduced a bit. I'm terribly lazy with mine but I find the Sally Hansen cuticle dissolver helps

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover, 29.5ml https://amzn.eu/d/86P6Vpa

I will also only use Rimmel 60 second polish as I hate waiting around for them to dry.

In short... am rubbish at nail stuff.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 28/04/2023 17:51

I do think you're right however my cuticles seem to think there should be more of them than actual nail Grin

Wishona · 28/04/2023 19:18

I hate my cuticles being touched. Sometimes if I’m having my nails done I ask them just to leave them.

My smear came back fine- phew.

I bought a Bondi Sands tan last night that was on offer. They only had dark though…think I might try it on on my legs only first 😂
I was thinking this might be a Friday night thing…it’s a hard one though, not sure I can be bothered.

OrangeSpicedBun · 30/04/2023 10:01

My PMS is bad today mentally and I'm sat here feeling like an idiot crying about a photo someone took yesterday. I felt so positive this week and now it is all ruined and I don't know how to get back there. At least it's Sunday so my bath/pamper day.

tigerbear · 30/04/2023 10:30

@OrangeSpicedBun you poor thing, sending hugs. I hate how the power of one photo can send us into a spiral - I’ve been there, as have most of us on this thread 😔
Am also feeling a bit bloated and shit as period, spotty skin, etc, plus have really eaten loads and had lots of alcohol this weekend.

Also, it’s really hot and sunny where I am, and am in no way prepared for summery clothes and footwear!

Yes weather is glorious its time to buy some razors as I only shave when I am exposing skin lol

Once the legs do get defluffed I need to keep on top of moisturising. Its awful how much shaving seems to effect the skin but my hair is dark and thick so I'm not able to go natural.

OrangeSpicedBun · 01/05/2023 09:52

Thanks @tigerbear I.picked myself up.and kept myself busy yesterday. Walked into town to get some fruit and veg, also picked up a face mask, nail polish, healthy themed magazine and book (for pampering and stopping mindless scrolling) . Ended up going on three separate walks ..about 12k steps.

Positives for the start of May.
Skin is so much brighter with all this water I'm drinking.
Body is so much softer with moisturising regime.
Mental clarity from 16:8?
Being more present/mindful

Still got to sort house routine and adapt TOMM to work for me. Baby steps...

@LivingDeadGirlUK I get some great razors off Amazon own brand for sensitive skin. They are rven better than the FFS ones. They are tge type with the handle and you add the blade. Blade has a moisturising strip. Much cheaper than the brand they are basically copying too !

OrangeSpicedBun · 02/05/2023 15:00

3lb loss this week. One day off on 16:8 and over 10k steps x 4. One 15 min kettlebell workout. Nothing as fancy as low carbon but experimenting with adding more protein.

Skincare going well. Could really do with a nice gentle cleanser that helps with open pores /sebaceous filaments and doesn't dry my face out. Currently using Cerave smoothing cleanser (too harsh) and using up Clarins micellar water in gift set. I like using micellar water and the softness it gives your face but don't think it will cut it as an overall cleanser? Any recommendations? I think my skin is combination, lots of pores can be seen, not many wrinkles.

We fly to Turkey in under two weeks. I'm determined just to fly and flop and enjoy...with nice skin and an inch or two lost.

No changes on housework front..discovered an old Japanese Body Wash cloth is great for cleaning sinks/limescale removal!

Wishona · 02/05/2023 21:16

Hair toner done, went really well.
Re painted my nails.

Not tanned yet so that’s a fail.

Still moisturising and taking my vitamins.

I love exercise, did 1 hour tonight and 2 yesterday.
I really want to do 3 things tomorrow but I think that might be excessive (I know it’s excessive, so I’ll see how I feel I think)

MissSusanPevensie · 04/05/2023 23:59

You have all reminded me that I keep forgetting to take my vitamins Blush

@tigerbear I have downloaded the Simple Life app to try fasting from next week - it was only £1 for a trial so I thought worth a try!

@Wishona I'm very pale and have to be careful which tan I use, a dark one would turn me into Madge from Benidorm Sad there have been some disasters in the past! At the moment I'm using the Palmers Cocoa Butter one which at least makes me look less pasty a bit healthier...

@OrangeSpicedBun I don't think I've ever been able to implement the TOMM or Flylady methods, if you work out the secret please let me know!! I have this face wash arriving soon, really hoping it will sort out my sebaceous filaments. It comes with good MN recommendations so I have everything crossed it does the job!

Thanks so much @MissSusanPevensie that looks great and in my budget.

I bought some Lacura glycolic toner last night from Aldi (Pixi dupe) will see if that helps with the pore issues too.

Brilliant stuff, I've tried most of their toners.

MissSusanPevensie · 05/05/2023 22:59

I've realised you can get it on Amazon too @OrangeSpicedBun and might work out slightly cheaper? I'll look for that toner too next time I go to Aldi!
