Night out in London's trendy Brixton - what to wear ?

Oh god. I am too old for this. I am going out for a friend's 40th and we are off to a 'sweaty techno' place in Brixton. I need something comfortable, impossibly trendy and preferably black to blend in with the bright young things () I will be mingling with. I have just bought some black combat type generic trousers which are actually great and fit my lardy arse well. It's a start. Where from here ? Tops ? Shoes/trainers ? Accessories ? Help !

Going from this:
www.whitehorsebrixton.com/gallery.htm
you would do well with a stripy top and if possible a hat on top of your combats and trainers

let us know if you end up on the website after a few drinks...

If you arn't careful you will have the experience I once had on a night out when slightly too old for the venue-of being asked if I was an undercover copper. Very crushing.

oldcheesyquaver · 29/01/2008 22:11

MotherFunk - thanks for info. I am going for something a bit more snazzy than a tee shirt on top but will stick with the trousers/trainers as I know from bitter experience that you can get a bad case of 'techno toe' if you wear ill fitting shoes...
snice - several of my male friends have been mistaken for drug dealers in the past . Time to give it up methinks.

MF - I quite like the idea of 2 vest tops - would need a baggier one on top to hide jelly belly, so it sounds ideal. Will also check out some chunky accessories.

Sigh - I am going to look past it whatever I wear really...

not really a trendy bar as such, anything you feel comfortable in will be fine.

tyaca · 30/01/2008 00:09

but no combats, *obvs8.

on the grounds that it 2008 and not 1998.

talulasmum · 30/01/2008 09:50

osq.

brixton's a great place for a night out. i was born there. only moved out about 3 yrs ago. i think vauxhall has got better clubs.
"fire" is fab. try it out.
re; cloths; just wear black. have a great night.

oldcheesyquaver · 30/01/2008 09:52

oh dear - I sort of knew this would turn into a trend fest. I have frequented Brixton a lot in the past, I think some people who go out there sometimesone try a little too hard at times to be 'trendy' without appearing to have made an effort (lol).
I'm sort of over all that now tbh. I am just going out because a friend has asked me and she wants to have a good night out at one of our old haunts. I will no doubt look underdressed/untrendy compared to everyone else, but hey it's just a night out ! Still thanks for all your comments - interesting...

talulasmum · 30/01/2008 10:00

ocq; just think russell brand you know, the

"emo look" cant go wrong!

ZippiBabes · 30/01/2008 10:00

could some of you answer my thread on what to wear to polysics in carling academy islington

rubydiamond · 30/01/2008 11:34

Talulasmum; thought you said emu look.

never heard of "emo" i'm too old.

to the op. just wear what you would normally wear on a night out. don't try too hard. don't know brixton well but if its like any other town, no one really cares anymore.

talulasmum · 30/01/2008 11:56

lol... the emo look,.is punk basically. but you have to be about 20 to really pull it off.

Blu · 30/01/2008 12:08

Wow - so many Brixton MN-ers!

Jamm has a very mixed clientele / demographic and is v relaxed, in my not very extensive experience!

PerkinWarbeck and Lennygrrl - did you used to have different names?

Babushka is Mango Landin' now. Is it the Whitehorse up the hill - or the Telegraph?
