What do lesbians wear to weddings?

Enquiring on behalf of a lesbian friend who's doing my head in. In three weeks time she's attending a formal traditional wedding where most women will be doing the frock and fascinator number.

She's 5'1" and a size 6-8. She's very androgynous looking and won't wear a skirt or heels. Very pale skin and white-blonde hair in a pixie cut. She doesn't do wide trousers, patterns, animal prints, pussy bows or anything that hints at girliness. Likes fitted and sharp. She will wear pink and bright colours. The plan was to find a sharp ankle-grazing suit and wear a plain whit t-shirt and tennis shoes with it.

I'd thought that Hobbes or Whistles or any number of other places would have a neat little fitted trouser suit, or Chanel-style jacket, which she'd look fab in, but they only seem to do them in black, grey and navy for workwear. The current fashion is for long, wide-cut jackets. She's tried a couple in the high street stores and even their petite sizes drown her.

Any thoughts? Max budget is £200.

Thanks to those who offered links to help: much appreciated. The wedding is in Scotland and I'm not sure a shorts suit, even in August, is advisable. Plus she's in her 50s...

For all those making fun of me, being a butch lesbian trying to blend in at a loved-one's smart and carefully curated wedding can be very challenging. When you live your life in jeans, walking boots and boy shirts, trying to fathom the niceties of wedding attire is a minefield.

Whatever they want. Like any other guest. A dress? A suit? Jeans and a t-shirt if it's a super casual wedding. Is their a dress code? Why does it matter what other lesbians wear to weddings all that matters is what your friend likes.

Rainbowshit · 02/08/2022 21:19

Asos can be pretty good for tailoring.

But what has this to do with being a lesbian? It’s all about style and what you are comfortable with. Strange thread.

Wow.

What do lesbians wear to weddings?

Whatever the fuck they want.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 02/08/2022 21:21

That'll teach you for going for an eye-catching thread title, OP Wink

You could have just said that then? Rather than what do lesbians wear at weddings? Like lesibians are one homogeneous group.

justforthisnow · 02/08/2022 21:26

But surely if she is in her 50's this isn't the first formal event she's been asked to, and anyway the many links above can help. A tailored sharp suit, cropped, wud be fab on her, and very like something I'd wear, at 5'3. I would never wear a t shirt to a wedding but that's me. A lace trimmed top, a wrap shirt etc. You'd lose me at the tennis shoes, as I love a heel, but 10/10 otherwise.

I asked my colleague & her wife. They suggested assless chaps & a black leather cap

This is hilarious and so bold Grin

did anyone else think that the post title sounded like the first line of a very non PC joke?

TooMinty · 02/08/2022 21:30

But living your life in jeans is not an exclusively lesbian thing and if her friends love her then they didn't invite her to match a theme.

Sorry, I shouldn't be on style and beauty with this attitude I know.

I am however Scottish and agree shorts is a bad idea, sunshine/warmth is not guaranteed! Cos and Arket have nice wide leg trousers. FatFace has a nice crisp white shirt I have my eye on. Then maybe a drapey poncho for warmth.

FrancescaContini · 02/08/2022 21:30

I’m not a lesbian but I don’t understand why being a lesbian means she struggles to know what to wear to a wedding 🤨 What’s her sexuality got to do with her clothing?

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 02/08/2022 21:31

www.sumissura.com/en-uk/women/petite-suits/personalize

Oh she could design her own.

Kerrrmieee · 02/08/2022 21:33

She sounds like she knows her style, I'm sure she can choose an outfit reflecting who she is - her style I mean, not her sexuality 🙄

gogohmm · 02/08/2022 21:36

@Pluvia wedding attire when it's not your thing is tricky whatever your sexuality! I do wear dresses but the jersey kind, I don't like hard or scratchy materials - I found a phase 8 dress with was basically t shirt material against my skin but had a lacy mesh over it that disguised it, bright pink too. Suits would be my worst nightmare because I don't like tight things around my waist

MenaiMna · 02/08/2022 21:36

In that size, if not curvy how about skinny linen men's suits at asos in a bright or pastel colour?

tootiredtoocare · 02/08/2022 21:43

People have focused on the lesbian bit, probably shouldn't have included that. You described her preferred style very well, though. Karen Millen have a nice petite range.

AMindNeedsBooks · 02/08/2022 21:48

Have a look at the reviews for sizing.

That's what I thought.

Surely they wear whatever they're comfortable in, be it a suit, a dress, or a shirt and trousers! There isn't a lesbian uniform.

Of all the few lesbians at my wedding some wore dresses and some wore suits. One wore an amazing gold velvet Victorian suit and cravat. Surely there's no mad dress code saying women must wear frocks? I'm a straight woman and I've worn a trouser suit before
