What do lesbians wear to weddings?

Enquiring on behalf of a lesbian friend who's doing my head in. In three weeks time she's attending a formal traditional wedding where most women will be doing the frock and fascinator number.

She's 5'1" and a size 6-8. She's very androgynous looking and won't wear a skirt or heels. Very pale skin and white-blonde hair in a pixie cut. She doesn't do wide trousers, patterns, animal prints, pussy bows or anything that hints at girliness. Likes fitted and sharp. She will wear pink and bright colours. The plan was to find a sharp ankle-grazing suit and wear a plain whit t-shirt and tennis shoes with it.

I'd thought that Hobbes or Whistles or any number of other places would have a neat little fitted trouser suit, or Chanel-style jacket, which she'd look fab in, but they only seem to do them in black, grey and navy for workwear. The current fashion is for long, wide-cut jackets. She's tried a couple in the high street stores and even their petite sizes drown her.

Any thoughts? Max budget is £200.

Very funny thread.

Haha. I hope she finds somewhere with small suits. How about hiring something? Some places hire out wedding outfits. I'd make sure it has a dedicated lesbian section first though.

I'm glad you got some good suggestions OP, it can be tricky to get the right outfit vibes for weddings. Unless you're a lesbian then you're not allowed to ask for help

I'm sure I'll be attending a Gentleman Jack lesbian wedding before long.

Honestly we are tempted, except this will be in a hot country...

It actually strikes me as a bit homophobic, but there you go.

I think the couple suggesting it were lesbians so probably just humour..

It’s edifying watching a bunch of (I’m going to guess) predominately straight woman jump on a lesbian and rip her to shreds for doing lesbianism wrong just because she made a joke that fell a bit flat. You’re coming across like a gang of bearded Labour voters- you’d think Style & Beauty could find a better look.

I've not read the whole thread but has your friend checked out the teenage boys' suits in H&M?

I've got this suit jacket with matching trousers. I'm normally a size 10 and the age 14+ is a good fit for me so she might get away with age 12-13. It's a linen-cotton mix fabric. (They do a polyester version too that's even cheaper.) It sells out quite regularly but they always seem to restock.

I've recommended it loads of times on here - not that anyone ever listens to me!

The jacket is quite a bit longer on me than on that model by the way - top-mid thigh length.

Thank you for continuing to offer suggestions. I updated earlier in the thread that she had ordered the Shein dark green suit and also Hobbes Suki suit in hot magenta.

The boys jackets are a great idea but she was looking for something beyond the grey/ blue/ black workwear look. But very useful for future reference.

Nice suit choice.

I like mango ones too.

One of the things that makes choosing something quite difficult is that many of the online adverts style their models in a sexualised fashion with nothing worn underneath jackets, jackets worn half-undone, half off one shoulder, posed on sun loungers etc. For people like my pal who don't care about fashion and are absolutely not interested in projecting stylised femininity it's very difficult to separate out the garments and imagine what they might look like without the pool and the moody-looking 19-year-old model.

I have never attended a lesbian wedding, however the only ones where I have seen the happy couple outside the venue, both had trouser suits.

My lesbian relative wears similar things to me - DMs, boots, T-shirts. At occasions she wears a simple plain dress and trainers, or nice trousers and a top, as do I. Her girlfriend goes for a trouser suit, although I have worn those to weddings too. They were very in in the 90s then it seemed to become all about fascinators.

A trouser suit and trainers sounds great. Perhaps I will go for that myself at a forthcoming wedding I don't know how to dress for. It is a shame about the thread title (which was bound to raise some eyebrows) because there are some great ideas here for women who panic at the thought of occasion wear and normally live in no make-up, jeans and trainers or DMs.

That tweed suit is gorgeous, just needs a silk shirt underneath (maybe in a bright colour?) and some brogues…

My wife and I both both wore dresses for our wedding, but yes I’ve seen some lovely trouser suits as well.

What? It was a shame I used the word lesbian? What if I'd asked for ideas for someone in a wheelchair to wear to a form wedding and you had responded 'shame about the thread title (which was bound to raise some eyebrows) because there are some great ideas here for women who panic at the thought of occasion wear....' What a pity I had to ruin everything by using the word lesbian, eh? Every time someone assures me that everyone's cool with LGB people and we're totally integrated into society I'm going to remember this thread.

I wear masculine clothes as it suits my body shape. Wonder if I'm a lesbian 🤔 I feel silly now not to have noticed.

The Shein suit was delivered earlier today and — well, you can't expect a lot for that price really, can you? It looked lovely in the photo. In reality the fabric looks cheap and some of the seams aren't great, so it's going straight back. Hobbs items are due today.
