Umm, can we talk about autumn yet?

Look, if you're the type of person still wearing sandals in October, this might not be the thread for you Grin

But... if you are like me and an autumn-loving, pumpkin-spice drinking, leaf kicker, what's on your list?

I'll start:

Flared jeans (I have some, just looking for the right shoes/boots to wear with)
Trench coat
Tweed blazer
Barrel leg cords in a rusty colour.
Deep berry lipstick

i like this skirt from weird fish but it doesn’t say what length it is. I’m assuming it’s knee length but it could also be a midi length as well. Has anyone ordered this skirt?

If you look at the colourway bronze its knee length on the model (I hate it when they only do model photos in one colourway)

Its lovely!

Ahh thank you. I didn’t notice the second colourway. It is a lovely skirt, a bit fancy for working from home though!

I want a black short dress, with sleeves. Nothing tight or 'sexy' looking, as I want to wear it with fishnets/patterned tights without it looking too much.

You obviously aren't rural then Grin
I'm sticking with skinny/straight leg jeans because I don't want rising damp on my jeans.
I drive to work and don't live near a city so a trench coat would never get any wear
It's too damp for a tweed blazer. Although I like the sound of one. They usually have a marquee selling them at the local agricultural show so I might be tempted
Barrel leg anything is deeply unflattering on me
Deep berry isn't my colour.

However, in spite of all the negativity, I could do with some waterproof, but smart boots. My biker boots and Chelsea boots are on their last legs. I have some block heeld sude boots from M and S that I bought 4 years ago (similar to the ones linked to upthread), and they still look current. Unfortunately osteoarthritis in my foot and working from home has meant that anything with more than a 1" heel is unwearable for me.

I have plenty of other clothes, and as a jewel winter, find I have to swerve most autumn fashions as they are in colours that just don't suit me.

And I agree with the comment that pumpkin spiced anything is an abomination Grin

@RampantIvy I am not in a city or anything, I'm just not very practical! Grin

@Sheffieldissunny Ooh that was quick! That's v nice! Thank you

@RampantIvy I'm like you I don't wear wide leg anything in the winter. My winter clothes are more like shorts and skirts with tights and leggings with a couple of skinny waterproofs for tramping through the fields. Loose trousers and in fact trousers in general are for summer time.

Sheffieldissunny · 01/09/2022 13:31

@GeneParmesanPrivateEye no probs on holiday at mo. Need to get off MN and stop ignoring the kids/DH though 😳

LivingDeadGirlUK · 01/09/2022 14:35

I like the idea of a black turtleneck, sounds sophisticated and something I could dress up or down. In practice I find I need to wear a v or scoop neck or I look a bit broad. Off to see of collared jumpers are a thing...

CoffeeBeansGalore · 01/09/2022 14:43

@LivingDeadGirlUK www.landsend.co.uk have some collared jumpers in their new collection.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/09/2022 17:23

Thanks @CoffeeBeansGalore I have a very nice pair of heeled knee high boots that I've hardly worn, so I'll have a look out for a nice white shirt.

RaininginDarling · 01/09/2022 20:37

Love autumn. Today I bought the most beautiful, flattering, oversized raincoat from...Tesco for £49. Navy, pull cord in the small of your back, fully lined, high neck and generous hood. It's nicer than my Seasalt coats. I don't imagine they'll be in stock for long. Those looking for a hat, I recommend checking out the wonderful Sow's Ear Zowie hat. I've a couple and get so many compliments (all her clothes are fantastic - especially her wide legged Hepburn inspired trousers).

I have found my people! Autumn is my absolute favourite season for clothes. I’m also nostalgic for the 90s slip dress trend but in the interest of my dignity I’m sticking with bias cut slip skirts with jumpers and boots. I love the sound of an emerald green slip skirt actually.

I don’t really need much this year, given the clothes I bought last September didn’t get much of an outing as I was entirely working from home. I am always on the look out for lovely merino wool jumpers though, as well as boat neck/slash neck black jersey tops, but I am far too picky around both.

I did order a few things today, a faux leather khaki pleated skirt from M&S and a black mixed fabric top from AllSaints. Oh, and a teal diagonally pleated skirt from Hush. So much for not needing anything…

LivingDeadGirlUK · 02/09/2022 11:23

CoffeeBeansGalore · 01/09/2022 14:43

@LivingDeadGirlUK www.landsend.co.uk have some collared jumpers in their new collection.

The cashmere polo jumper is exactly what I was picturing. I've never spent over £100 on a jumper though or shopped at Lands end. I assume the quality is good for the price?

Ahm987 · 02/09/2022 13:06

Ooh, I love autumn clothes too. So nice to get the opaque tights back on!

I’m looking for a couple of midi dresses to wear with chunky boots. Specifically, I like shirred/ elastic waist dresses as they help disguise my slight tummy whilst adding much-needed bulk to my upper half! There are some gorgeous ones in Hush/ Albaray, but sadly my budget only stretches to about £50. Has anyone spotted any? I ordered a few from M&S but they’re not quite right.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 02/09/2022 16:07

@LivingDeadGirlUK I don't know about the cashmere. However anything I have ever ordered from Lands End has been good. I also buy my son the extra long cotton chinos and joggers for school and they are brilliant. Good quality, wash well and have lasted.
I believe the returns policy is good if you don't like what you've ordered and want a refund.

You don't say what your size is. This is nice but only up to size 12

This one if you like cherries

both under £40

Also, Joanie have a lot of nice midi dresses about the £60 mark

LucyLoopyLu · 02/09/2022 18:35

I've decided I want a cord pinafore dress in a neutral colour!

There are some decently priced White Stuff ones on vinted- does anyone know what the quality is like?

RampantIvy · 02/09/2022 20:07

So nice to get the opaque tights back on!

I prefer bare legs to wearing tights, but it has to be warm enough of course.

Why do so many posters want to cover up so much?

Two words, 'Chub Rub' :D

Great recommendations thanks. I really like the Superdry one. I’m a 10/12

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/09/2022 22:32

@Partypoooooper i have the Birkenstock Boston clogs in black leather from last year, and tan (mocha?) suede from this year - they are fabulous! Great in summer with bare legs and dresses, perfect house shoes in winter with big woolly socks. I love them.

DP just picked this up for me from the Hermes drop place and it is delightful:

www.cos.com/en_gbp/women/womenswear/tops/product.knitted-half-zip-jumper-grey.1099812001.html

I kept ordering and returning a similar one from &OS last year but it was (always) too long and over-sized. This one is a perfect length and neatly over-sized, not enormously

Because some of us live in Scotland! 😁

Posters keep referring to emerald green which is my very favourite colour- but I haven’t seen anything! Any suggestions?
