Umm, can we talk about autumn yet?

Look, if you're the type of person still wearing sandals in October, this might not be the thread for you Grin

But... if you are like me and an autumn-loving, pumpkin-spice drinking, leaf kicker, what's on your list?

I'll start:

Flared jeans (I have some, just looking for the right shoes/boots to wear with)
Trench coat
Tweed blazer
Barrel leg cords in a rusty colour.
Deep berry lipstick

Placemarking! Is cord the new corduroy? Grin I don't really "belong" on the thread as I buy hardly anything (and it tends to be eBay if I do!) but I love seeing all the fashion and what "trends" are in and how things come back into fashion. Nice fabric seems to be very important this year, cord, velvet and tweed etc?

@TreeOfPain I want that velvet suit so much it physically hurts!

@Sheffieldissunny that dress is gorgeous! I love a pinafore dress, especially cord or tweed fabric.

@Judystilldreamsofhorses I also really like that dress, I remember you from lipstick threads (you have the nice Louise Brooks hair?) and think it would really suit you.

Talking of 1930s, I think it's a look that is always in style Smile I automatically want to wear 70s clothes in Autumn, if it's very cold. If it's not freezing I like 50s/60s.

I vacuum pack/store my winter clothes/coats/boots and unpack the beginning of September and it's always so exciting, especially the things I have forgotten I have Grin This year I I can see I will definitely be wearing my fitted black velvet jacket a lot (I need black velvet flares to match), and tweed A line skirt suit with pussycat bow blouses. Also voluminous skirts, short and long. I am longing for a new bargainous cashmere jumper or twin set (sorry can't see who mentioned these earlier!) I love twin sets but find them too difficult to wear though as they're too warm under a coat but too cold without a coat. I love the "silhouettes" of the 50s/60s with big skirts and tight fitting tops - which is why I love a pinafore dress! I have a lot I bought in the 90s when they were very trendy, and quite a few are corduroy/vintage.

Love Autumn fashion, it's my favourite time of year (apart from the coat or no coat days!)

I love this thread, the descriptions are amazing! I really fancy a bit of Dark Academia but also that sort of look you see/read about in American books and films where they're going to football games - no idea how I achieve that mind you 🤔

Oh I love dark academia as a look! I can never get the top half quite right (and really would love to be able to wear a tweed waistcoat) but I find looking at "steampunk" skirts can give that long/textured look.

I think it's also essential to accessorise with an armful of books Smile

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/08/2022 10:35

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles c’est moi! Good memory! I think a bit of Mac Lady Danger with that dress, and I just had a super-high wide fringe cut in, plus an undercut at the back.

GettingStuffed · 03/08/2022 11:36

As far as I know the only thing I need is a warm casual coat. I had a lovely bright red one I bought in a charity shop but my daughter accidentally melted it with her straighteners.

It very much depends on how my MiL is doing as I'm currently sharing caring duties with my DD and her husband so I need clothes in 2 places rather than having to carry stuff between houses, no car.

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 03/08/2022 15:21

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles you belong! I'm not after buying lots of stuff, and I do get things on eBay, secondhand etc so this is just for inspiration and wanting to get all my autumn gear out.

So, has anyone bought anything over the weekend? Grin

I am bidding on a grey corduroy dress with pockets on eBay. I'm also eyeing up a pair of leopard print 60s style knee high boots (which is strange as they are completely unlike anything I usually buy or wear!)

ChanceEauFraiche · 31/07/2022 11:10

I’m not a fashion person at all, but have been looking at Autumn shoe trends in the fashion mags for inspiration.

They’re telling us though high boots and long knee boots, irregular heels (those weird off cebtre heels), heeled boots and classic Chelsea style ankle boots are ‘in’. Not very inspiring.

Im hoping there is some comfortable alternative to ‘chunky boots’ though as that just isn’t my style at all.

What style of boots do you normally wear?

CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/08/2022 13:35

I treated myself to some supersoft cuddly jumpers in the spring sales. Have recently bought a beautiful berry red fedora and a red velvet baker boy hat. My warm Skechers boots (absolute brand new bargain) were delivered Friday.

I've unfortunately developed an autoimmune condition which is affected if I get cold so I have a very good excuse for buying lovely cosy things 😊.

The pps who likes scarves - check out www.craggi.co.uk - some beautiful ones at reasonable prices.

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 09/08/2022 15:24

@CoffeeBeansGalore I'm sorry to hear about your autoimmune condition, but can I recommend Turtle Doves wristwarmers? They are recycled cashmere, so you get a variation in colour and stuff... I love mine.

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles boots sound amazing!

I have got a new (to me - 2nd hand) wrap around jumper in a gorgeous green, but it's a teeny bit itchy.

popping my head round the door for a quick look

Autumn is my favourite season and every year I want to be stylish with autumn clothes but don't achieve it 😂 boots, jeans and jumpers are my go to but following for colour ideas.

DashboardConfessional · 09/08/2022 17:04

I caved. These are my birthday present.

Umm, can we talk about autumn yet?
CoffeeBeansGalore · 09/08/2022 17:06

@GeneParmesanPrivateEye Thank you - I will have a look 😊

Mercedesbenz2022 · 09/08/2022 17:14

I have the wrist warmers too really lovely and can type in them in a cold office

FelixFlower · 09/08/2022 17:19

I like the idea of wrist warmers but have never seen how they keep you warmer than a jumper?

godmum56 · 09/08/2022 17:36

two more seasalt sweaters, one in their sale and one in the marks sale

DeadRight · 09/08/2022 17:52

I’ve just gone a bit mad on Vinted and spent £150, but got some good stuff so hoping it turns up in good order.

-Joseph wool wrap coat coat in chocolate brown.
-Reiss black fur lined wool coat
-M&S tweed pencil skirt (I’m resurrecting tall boots and fitted skirts this year, don’t care if it’s fashionable or not!)
-Zara tweed blazer
-Zara chestnut coloured silk blouse
-Massimo Dutti rust coloured sweater
-Cos black jumper dress

All listed as VGC 🤞

DreamloverTealover · 09/08/2022 20:32

Wow @DeadRight that all sounds amazing! Was that just lucky finds or did you search anything specific for autumnal stuff?

DeadRight · 09/08/2022 21:07

Lots of searching of brands I like!

I’ve become a bit obsessed. I can’t afford anymore purchases though so that’s my lot until later in the year!

Thefruitbatdancer · 09/08/2022 22:25

www.monsoon.co.uk/metallic-leather-camera-bag-4523081200.html

I bought this leather, metallic gold bag for a few events I've got coming up. Plus, I bought the bargain wool discounted jumper from ARKET a pp mentioned a few pages back. Very soft and lovely quality.

GeneParmesanPrivateEye · 09/08/2022 22:37

@DeadRight that all sounds lovely!

ChilliPB · 10/08/2022 08:33

@DeadRight thats a good haul! Did you have stuff you wanted or do you just search for brands? I get a bit lost on Vinted, ebay etc as there’s so much.

superplumb · 21/08/2022 09:46

I'm after a red cord knee length dress
What would I wear over it? I think leather would look weird

Wafflefudge · 22/08/2022 09:13

@DashboardConfessional those boot are lovely just been on the website, what is the sizing like.
