Umm, can we talk about autumn yet?

Look, if you're the type of person still wearing sandals in October, this might not be the thread for you Grin

But... if you are like me and an autumn-loving, pumpkin-spice drinking, leaf kicker, what's on your list?

I'll start:

Flared jeans (I have some, just looking for the right shoes/boots to wear with)
Trench coat
Tweed blazer
Barrel leg cords in a rusty colour.
Deep berry lipstick

Me too and there are so many lush old ones.

If I could I often think I would dress like a posh lady in 1953 - you know, comfy tweed suit, blouse with collar and brooch at neck, twinset. Sensible shoes.

I WISH this look would come back.

Tweed suits/co-ords have been very popular amongst people my age (early 20s) for a while now. Zara sells them every year. Also own a twin set.

I'm after a red cord knee length dress
What would I wear over it? I think leather would look weird

Sheepskin, if you can?

Or mohair - that would make an interesting contrast.

I’m currently dithering over a couple of dresses (one tweed, one knitted) from last Winter, that have both reached probably their lowest sale price …

Ohhh hadnt thought of a sheepskin jacket 🤔

yasminisa · 22/08/2022 11:14

I have bought so far:
a neutral sleeveless knit
A corduroy shortish neutral dress
New wool tights
I want a black short leather skirt, seen one in Jigsaw that I quite like and a new pair of wellies for dog walking

yasminisa · 22/08/2022 11:15

I also have bought a Rains waterproof rain hat, which my children think is hilarious, but again it is for dog walking

@CoffeeBeansGalore don't feel you have to answer if you're worried about outing/keeping matters private etc, but if it's Raynauds my consultant has given me some really good tips. Just in case it helps anyone else as some of this is wardrobe related Smile and some was new to me, mittens are better than gloves, and I use elasticated bracelets (one is a medic alert I have to wear anyway) around the top to keep the heat trapped in them. Putting them on a string through your sleeves like a toddler is optional. Grin You can also get (this was literally a life changer for me) rechargeable hand warmers and feet warmers. The toe warmers are amazing. Hats that cover my ears really help me, I use knitted ones rather than fur trapper type Grin The Christmas threads (apologies if this has already been mentioned here, I am on too many threads!) usually have discount codes for sheepskin liners from Celtic and Co, and wrist warmers from Turtledoves.

Anyway. I have discovered Vinted. I am doomed.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 22/08/2022 17:03

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles Thank you for taking the time to write your response. Really appreciate it.

I have Sjogren's Syndrome, problems only started last year and I have been lucky to be diagnosed so quickly. I really suffered last year with the cold just draining any strength from me. So determined to be prepared this year 😊.

I will look out for the discount codes. I love some of the Celtic & Co stuff but it is on the pricey side. I have been eyeing up the Turtledoves wrist warmers. The feet and toe warmers will be worth investigating. Didn't realise you could get toe warmers!

Thank you again 😊

@CoffeeBeansGalore I have PMed you but not sure if my PMs are working on the mobile site. So annoying that you can't send PMs on the app either.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 24/08/2022 18:04

So sorry coffee it's really hard to PM in the teeny boxes on my phone so I've just sent you a completely incoherent one Blush and will try and get on my tablet later!

In Autumn clothes related news, I have just ordered a cream knee length belted trench coat and am now having doubts. I love a classic longline trench (very vintage Burberry style, with the belt knotted not buckled) but cream in Autumn/Winter what was I thinking. I had visions of wafting around in it with black tights and knee boots like some 1960s sex kitten, but I fear I will just look like I'm wearing a carrier bag and it will be filthy within 5 seconds of putting it on. I shall report back for your entertainment when it arrives.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 24/08/2022 18:09

What is your Rains hat like @yasminisa? I looked at a new velvet taupe shade Rains trench coat which looked lovely on the model but I knew the sleeves would be far too long on me and they look a bit tricky to shorten. I hear good things on MN about Rains coats though. I feel the need to investigate their hats now...

This poem by Louis McNeice has always resonated with me...
"September has come, it is hers
Whose vitality leaps in the autumn,
Whose nature prefers
Trees without leaves and a fire in the fireplace.
So I give her this month and the next
Though the whole of my year should be hers who has rendered already
So many of its days intolerable or perplexed
But so many more so happy.
Who has left a scent on my life, and left my walls
Dancing over and over with her shadow
Whose hair is twined in all my waterfalls
And all of London littered with remembered kisses."

The long knitted dress I ordered is on its way … If it fits it will be a tremendous win as I’ve been stalking it for months.

For whoever was looking I’m seeing lots of dark red cord around at the moment - if only I’d remembered to screenshot the things.

Cawley has some wondrous cord and sheepskin pieces for the coming season. Worth forgoing electricity for. 🔥

Brogues · 25/08/2022 12:51

Those who have bought/looking at cord dresses could you give me links please? I regret not getting a Toast one in their sales.

MuddlerInLaw · 25/08/2022 13:23

Red boiler suit.

Uniqlo jacket.

Eat Dust trouser suit.

But the only dresses I’ve seen today are little pinafores …

Indeed nowadays one could even use the excuse justification for buying an expensive clothing item as "well it's only as much as one month's electricity" Wink

(Everyone seems nice on here and will hopefully take that as lighthearted, as well as any lurkers! the irony is I can't even afford anything from Vinted atm without selling something to cover it, so I'm not pulling a Marie AntoinetteSmile). I still love to look at and encourage others to buy expensive clothes though. I would especially love to wear a corduroy jumpsuit, but sadly they make me look like I'm cosplaying General Zod. (That would make a good username)

MuddlerInLaw · 26/08/2022 15:33

Oh dear … I guess the Price Cap has killed the thread?

(I’ve been racing to equip myself for Winter before penury hits.)

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/08/2022 16:18

The Price Cap/Price Rises have certainly made me think twice .

I was this close >< to ordering a pair of Reiker lace-up boots (non leather which is important to me ) but I remembered I had a pair near identical in the porch .
Hoorah Grin
Bit of a polish up , they'll be dandy .

Wafflefudge · 22/08/2022 09:13

@DashboardConfessional those boot are lovely just been on the website, what is the sizing like.

Standard! I'm a 6 and I wear a 6 in Grenson.

A bit. All I've been looking at is Uniqlo heattech and wondering if I need to order some ski underlayers...

I looove getting my autumn clothes out and normally do it in August! But I'm going on a hot weather holiday in September so it'll have to wait a few extra weeks this year.

Normally a dress, tights and boots person and I'm very tempted to get some brown stomping around boots to add to my collection, and these look fun and practical: www.aussieboots.co.uk/blundstone-1918.html?attribute_values%5B269%5D=2791&gclid=Cj0KCQjwio6XBhCMARIsAC0u9aFvfGkULExjLsY6RurOT8RcEkt2BVFSBdbfuXsJoklsbg8UxqMHk2oaAkrxEALw_wcB

Also going to try and make a Peter Pan collar dress using some autumnal fabric I bought in NY many years ago - haven't had the courage to cut into it yet but planning a Halloween engagement party so want something a bit special for that.

I have worn my bluestones almost everyday in our ( Southern Hemisphere) winter. I love them! Super comfortable. Great with dresses/skirts and chunky socks.

By cord, I presume not pinafore? I've only seen pinafore and mini dresses

MuddlerInLaw · 27/08/2022 16:29

So the cord pinafore thing is real - not just my faulty perception?!

They must be popular if there are so many being sold - but I don’t think I know any women who wear them. Cord dungarees I can understand. And I once had the most flattering rust coloured, high waisted flared trousers in cord (Marc Jacobs in a Harvey Nichols sale when HN was good.) But mostly cord is not my friend.

My knitted dress arrived. It is perfection. (Co, massively reduced from N-a-P, who I’d rather given up on otherwise.) Well worth the wait.

Umm, can we talk about autumn yet?

Hmm I’m sure it was kind of a pull on shirt/ tunic style. Possibly was a mini dress.

Sheffieldissunny · 27/08/2022 16:58

@Brogues
Well there's this one which is zip front? www.pocketsforwomen.co.uk/product/24391/phase-eight-womens-kirsty-corduroy-zip-front-dress

Or this one but it's in cream so potentially not very autumnal colour
www.pocketsforwomen.co.uk/product/23316/whistles-womens-cord-mini-dress

I saw a lovely emerald one but it's sadly only available in sizes 4-6🙁

Brogues · 27/08/2022 18:37

Ooof is that cream one is lovely but like you say it’s not very autumnal (and very pricey). More like that than the navy zip one I think. Hopefully there’ll be more choices in a few weeks.
