Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

I got an advent calendar for the first time last year when I bought the M&S one on a whim. I’m now hooked…

is there something similar for men? I’d like to get one for DH. When I’ve searched I can find beer and socks and chocolate, but thought a sort of grooming advent calendar would be nice.

I had Harrods and F&M and M&S. loved them all but Harrods topped it for me

Harrods for me last year and previous yrs CB and Liberty. Loved them all but Harrods was amazing value.

I make DH an advent using an old Liberty calendar. I normally get some l’occitane products/ chocolate, books etc if an item is too big I write a note in the drawer and pop in a bag next to the calendar.

MidnightMeltdown · 07/08/2022 14:09

@PomRuns Fortnums is always available to buy in August. They just don't ship it until later in the year. I never used to count it in my advent calendar purchases because it came out of a different pay check Blush

I got DH a Joe & Steph's popcorn last year.

And degusta great fun.

Neither are male grooming, but DH has loved both of these.

christmas2022 · 07/08/2022 14:27

I've had a No7, Holland and Barrett and M and S one

I'd only get the marks and Spencer one again.

I also like that it's popular on here so enjoy the thread where we all comment rate and review the items.

@PomRuns , I wonder if the early F&M release is a marketing ploy to get people like me (with FOMO 😂) to buy immediately before there’s any competition? I like your thinking @MidnightMeltdown . I’ll definitely order F&M , but as it doesn’t count I can still look at Liberty, which will be cheaper this year anyway due to me having Beauty Drop and Collective funds available 😊

PomRuns · 07/08/2022 14:37

Ah @MidnightMeltdown i really don’t remember ordering so early - failing memory..
@Luvacuppatea2 the ploy might work for me 😳

Popsicle33 · 07/08/2022 15:20

F&M is out for me. I hate Noble Isle and Aromatherapy Associates products. The smell of the bumbum creams are foul. And I am fussy about shampoo and conditioner. I can't see how it's worth as much as they're saying! F & M hand sanitizer doesn't scream luxury to me.

wheresmyshoe · 07/08/2022 15:31

Too many drawers of disappointment in F&M for me this time. I dislike bramley, noble isle, AA unless it's a body oil and have loads of hand sanitizer. It feels a bit uninspiring and samey.
I'd like to try some fantastic moisturisers, these have been my favourite products in past calendars.

Doubleraspberry · 07/08/2022 16:02

Was reflecting today that my other issue is when I do find a product I really love, I struggle to justify buying the full size when I have so many testers still to use!

ApolloandDaphne · 07/08/2022 16:09

I had the Rituals one last year. I loved it but am still using up the products. I think I might go for the M&S one this year based on what others here have said.

Doubleraspberry · 07/08/2022 16:12

It’ll be interesting to see whether Cult Beauty changes now it’s owned by the Hut Group. I had it in 2019 and 2020 but gave it a miss last year as I was being firm, but I remember then people worrying that there would be a drop in quality.

There are a few, yeah. Next has done a mens grooming one for the last couple of years for example.

wheresmyshoe · 08/08/2022 20:35

I think Look Fantastic might win strangest item with the nudie candles: beautyadventcalendar.net/lookfantastic-advent-calendar-2022/

MidnightMeltdown · 08/08/2022 20:42

Lol! I love them! 🤣🤣

saveforthat · 08/08/2022 20:43

Last year I had the rituals one. It was really lovely. The packaging was lovely too. It had a little candle for each Sunday in advent, they all smelled fabulous and lots of other lovely goodies. Well recommended. I notice that Paperchase do a stationary calendar. I will definitely get that one.

Mrcpy · 08/08/2022 20:43

I watched a really entertaining YouTube video reviewing the disastrous Chanel advent calendar. Apparently cost $800, had 5 days missing, and 5 of the days were a single sheet of stickers each!

MidnightMeltdown · 08/08/2022 20:50

Look Fantastic has my fav Christophe Robin scalp scrub. Not too excited by the rest though.

Especially not the black eyeliner and the gua sha 😴😴😴😴

MidnightMeltdown · 08/08/2022 20:58

Looks like they've hiked the price too!

FredaFox · 08/08/2022 21:09

Have had the M&S for years then I've tried Look Fantastic, the Grazia on a Black Friday deal, Feel Unique. I tend to have 2 then my mum had 1 do we swap
One year I had 3 so covered November December and January
I like a cheeky janvent!
Last year I had Selfridges and loved it. Also had the asos which was decent for the price.

I'm hoping space nk is good this year or I might go liberty/f&m for a change

EXCITED these are my guilty pleasure!!

Roundaboot · 08/08/2022 21:15

So glad there's a thread already!
I'm going to go for John Lewis this year I think. I've been hankering after one for a couple of years but never bit the bullet. I had M&S and H&B last year and enjoyed them both but had them both before so I do fancy something a bit different.
Definitely getting the Degustabox one for the family. We've had it the past couple of years and all love it!

What is the price of the John Lewis one compared to H and B and M and S?

I just don't know if I can move away from M and S!

KimmySchmitt · 08/08/2022 21:33

Think the Selfridges one will be one to watch for me. They're still to reveal the contents but looking at the brands I'd hope it'll be a good mix of fragrance, haircare, skincare, make-up and a candle. I lusted after it in 2020 but missed out and the 2021 one didn't appeal as much.

KimmySchmitt · 08/08/2022 21:36

@christmas2022 JL is quite a bit more expensive, it was £159 last year. But it's a different class IMO, I had JL and M&S last year and both were good for the price but JL was far better. Bigger sizes, better brands, more variety. M&S had so many small creams and body lotions.
