Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 23/07/2022 12:26

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

JL looks good to me except for the salt scalp & the givenchy perfume.
Does anyone buy that perfume, I've had it free in loads of calendars🤣

Giftwithpurchase · 20/09/2022 16:40

JL looking good value for money. I have a real soft spot for Dermalogica so that's a big tick. Also love Syrup.. olaplex good but a bit dull and the salt scrub is nice I've had it before.
wouldn't used the CT palette as have too many. Between this and HN for beauty advents for me .. plus between H&B and M&S for jadvent .. plus my foody ones .. oh dear 😅

Giftwithpurchase · 20/09/2022 16:41

Ps @beachcitygirl agree re the Givenchy perfume..
In fact I can't wear most perfumes due to migraines so those would be regifted..

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/09/2022 16:53

I was really looking forward to the JL ac but I'm disappointed in this years offering as apart from 4 products (around £115) there's nothing else that grabs me.

None of the luxury ac's grab me either which is a pain now I finally have the money this year to splash out.
Though let's wait & see what Harrods is offering this year.

Just had a thought I could get myself 2 or even 3 of the cheaper ac's to make up for it 😂

It's a definite yes to M&S and possibly Nuxe, Lumene, L'Occitane & Arran.
Or is 5 advent calendars greedy? 😂

Luvacuppatea2 · 20/09/2022 17:08

Thank you @clary and @PomRuns , I now feel that I can justify getting a second calendar (having forgotten all about M&S, so possibly will end up with three 😳). I wish that Harrods would release their contents and I also have the Harrods fragrance calendar somewhere in my peripheral vision….. oh dear…… 🤣

greywinds · 20/09/2022 09:13

@Roundaboot that salt scrub leaves fine bake looking nice, I've had it, should be easy to regift to a friend or family person?

Good to know, thanks! My straight haired sister usually gets any hair products that I get in my advent calendars so I may just add it it to her Christmas gifts.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 20/09/2022 19:06

I've got eczema on my scalp so love a scalp scrub as can't really use any cream on it, you can all send them my way on the swap thread Grin.

polmnlj · 20/09/2022 19:11

Do you have any calendars you would get if there would be price reduction later on?
I am interested in having Clinique but won't pay the full price.

Zeeza · 20/09/2022 19:20

Yes. If there is a discount I might get the latest in beauty. I would be interested in the net a porter, or maybe space nk. None of them are great value to me without a special offer.

MidnightMeltdown · 20/09/2022 19:44

So far, I think my top 5 are:

  1. Cult Beauty
  2. Liberty
  3. F&M
  4. John Lewis
  5. Latest in Beauty

Waiting to see Harrods....

LookdeepintotheParka · 20/09/2022 19:45

I was wondering about discounts and Black Friday deals on the calendars too....I guess it's a gamble whether they sell out before then.

I also want the Clinique but it feels expensive for something I know will be useful but just not terribly exciting 😄

Having checked out JL I can see it isn't for me (too many skincare products I might not get on with) but it seems very good value.

I'm talking myself round in circles as to whether to get an advent calendar at all this year but I really love having one 😫

AnSionnachGlic · 20/09/2022 20:22

John Lewis calendar looks interesting. Does anyone know if they post to Ireland....can't seem to find out on their website!

PomRuns · 20/09/2022 20:41

@Luvacuppatea2 I’ve just had a good look at m and s and I think I’ve now crossed this one off. I’m always so tempted as it’s low cost but really that’s not really anything that I love or not had before and it’s £40 I can use towards something else.

JL and Liberty have lots of products I’ll really enjoy trying. I won’t use the 2 lip products in JL and there are 4 products in Liberty, I don’t like the peony couture perfume plus there’s a roller ball… (just no!)

but
JL - products that I would buy:
eyeshadow quad £39
Dermalogica £66
Acqua Di Palms £26
Votary serum £79
Neom candle £32

Liberty
candle £50
votary cream £40
mascara £22
Brow gel £20
sunday Riley eye cream £60

So both worthwhile for me - but JL the front runner.

Sorry long and probably boring post 😳

there’s a JL unboxing on YouTube in case of interest.

I was rummaging about on the website earlier and the only delivery information is for the UK. They state they can ship to most UK postcodes so I presume that means that don't ship outside the UK.

Thank you OchonAgusOchonOh, it's so frustrating when I get all excited about one and then, in tiny print, it states that shipping to U.K only. Or else it says duties not paid!! I see Liberty and Cult beauty ship to Ireland so they are my forerunners at moment!

Wammawink · 20/09/2022 21:36

John Lewis definitely don't ship to Ireland. I used to get it through an Address Pal thing before Brexit but it doesn't accept the address the last few years ☹️

EasterIssland · 20/09/2022 23:04

I think if I bought one it’s be Liberty.
last year I got rituals. They’ve gone up in price and they’ve included loads of products that I’d not use
many also have hair products that id not use cuz of coloured hair
but £245 is so much…

LaBrujaPiruja · 21/09/2022 10:02

Cannot buy Space NK to be sent to my nieces in Spain as when trying to pay the system says they only ship orders up to €150. Not impressed with customer service as they confirmed last week they would ship to Spain.

Zeeza · 21/09/2022 10:07

How annoying

Yes, I agree. Very frustrating. I was particularly annoyed after entering all the products from Niche Beauty in to my spreadsheet, colour coding, working out the ratios and then to realise they don't ship it to Ireland.

I think the only high end ones we can get are CB, Liberty and Space NK. Obviously BT is also available. Lower end ones that ship are Look Fantastic, Glossybox, and Feel Unique. Birchbox also ship but don't do duty paid and still charge UK VAT. They do claim they will reimburse you if you get charged by customs but I'm not sure I trust them.

The only low price one I see available to us is M&S.

Once the value of an order goes over €150 additional tariffs kick in. I'm surprised though that they will ship to Ireland and not to Spain as it's the same issue.

Just thought - if you try the Irish site, they ship to Spain too. Maybe they have an EU hub that they use? It's not available on the Irish site yet.

Sorry, should have included the link - www.spacenk.com/ie/home

Zeeza · 21/09/2022 10:43

I went to have another look at the space nk one. I was on the fence then I saw it was 30 quid off a 150 spend. I thought that was worth it, added it to my cart and went to buy. No discount. Went back to look if there was a code to add. Nope. Went back to check out. No discount. Looked at the terms and conditions, not including advent calendar 🙄

So irritating. Either do the "£30 off everything" and include it or make it clearer.

I will get John lewis instead.
