Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 23/07/2022 12:26

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

This link has the prices for each item. I wish there were fewer hair masks and more makeup. I had CB the last two years and loved it. This year's has some amazing items but not many standout ones for me. The candle is small this year too. www.makeupmuddle.com/cult-beauty-advent-calendar-2022/

I like the fact it doesn't have too much make-up as I have ridiculous quantities and, as I'm working from home much more frequently since covid, don't actually wear it that often any more.

MidnightMeltdown · 03/08/2022 23:18

I'm a bit on the fence about CB.

It has quite a few serums and moisturisers which I like, but there are also quite a few duds - supplements, primer, highlighter, another CT eyeshadow quad 😴, AB rich cream 😴, the mascara and bom dia cream are nice but I've had them before several times, I also have a gazillion eye creams. To many hair products too.

Looking forward to seeing what space nk come out with

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 04/08/2022 08:05

I've decided I'm not going to get one. I've tried the cult beauty products I like. I'm going to just spend half an advent calendar and get stuff I actually like 😆

Mrcpy · 04/08/2022 11:00

I’m not going to get one either. I had wanted one but it’s just too much money for random stuff. I’d rather buy a smaller amount of stuff that I know I love.

MidnightMeltdown · 04/08/2022 18:41

I do wonder how well they will sell this year given the cost of living crisis. I think that CB have made a mistake in hiking the price.

NightNightNight · 04/08/2022 18:49

The Fortnum & Mason one looks nice but I can't justify spending that money... beautyadventcalendar.net/fortnum-mason-beauty-advent-calendar-2022/

NotHerRealNames · 04/08/2022 18:54

I love them, but I do now have 3 years worth of hand cream, hair oil, pillow spray, and face tonic rotting away in my cupboard sadly... do I really need more?

Plump82 · 04/08/2022 19:03

I've had the Holland and Barrett one the last 2 years and said I was going to bother but actually just looking at what was in the last 2 years I discovered products I really like and have repurchased so I think I will get it again.

Doubleraspberry · 04/08/2022 19:31

I have had lots in the past and enjoyed them but I am also drowning in stuff I don’t have a chance of using it. I feel I enjoy the dopamine hit of opening something exciting looking but then find it hard to use it up.

Last year I went back to just M&S to keep myself in the game but not spending ££££s and did still enjoy it.

The best expensive one for me was Diptyque. Less varied in that you know it’s a limited range of products, all from the same brand, but I adore their fragrances so it all got used.

Diptyque sounds amazing. I'm currently ebaying all the stuff I'm never going to use so I'm trying to avoid temptation to order any more.

PomRuns · 04/08/2022 19:39

Fortnums for me I think.

clary · 04/08/2022 22:43

Any news on John Lewis? I got that last-minute last year and it was excellent, good sizes of some great products (Sunday Riley, dermalogica, neom candle).

F&M looks good but I loved the ££££ moisturisers in last years and I only see one this year, along with lip balm and other things I have.

MidnightMeltdown · 04/08/2022 23:52

Hmmm... I've had F&M every year that it's been out. I'm not sure whether I'll get it this year as it's quite samey. We had quite a few of the products last year - the hand sanitizer, the cult cream, bum bum cream, cuticle oil, aromatherapy associates oil, eccentric molecules, makeup bag etc

There might be some different scents, but still, I haven't used all of last year's products yet!

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 05/08/2022 07:00

I actually really love the espa one as I like all their oils and serums too but I think I'll just get some black Friday deals this year

LoveLabradors · 05/08/2022 08:29

Hmm. Was really looking forward to F&M contents but on first glance I’m not sure. A fair few repeats from last year which seems unimaginative. I wasn’t dazzled by Escentric perfume either and the description sounds similar. Delilah is a curious brand too, it pops up in a few beauty boxes and GWPs but it never seems to have taken off. Plus it’s got Noble isle which I’m not that fussed about. Some things sound lovely though. Perhaps it will grow on me BUT £245 is a very large amount to spend. And for that amount I would need to feel super keen!

SocksAndTheCity · 05/08/2022 09:42

Yes, the F&M reveal has made it a bit easier for me as it's really just more of the same stuff I have cupboards full of.

I'll wait and see what Space NK has as I really enjoyed last years, and I'm also keen to see the Liberty one but I can see me sitting this one out altogether and doing my own. I'd planned to dig last years' F&M box out over the weekend so I might just do that

MidnightMeltdown · 05/08/2022 10:33

@LoveLabradors there was a Delilah mascara in there a few years ago and I really liked it.

I'm not excited about more Bramley, Noble Isle or Margaret Dabbs though. I think I'll skip it this year.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 05/08/2022 10:39

Just going to get my Lakrids liquorice one and use my beauty club towards Liberty.

PomRuns · 05/08/2022 11:55

So agree re Bramley and Margaret Dabbs ..

there are quite a few product I use it in so will be good value but I’m also keen to see JL <so I can buy both>

MidnightMeltdown · 05/08/2022 12:46

I think F&M is lovely for someone who hasn't had it before, but for me personally, I think I prefer CB this year.

Looking forward to seeing the rest!

PomRuns · 05/08/2022 13:16

Also there’s normally a few Liberty beauty bags. M and S normally great value with many good products. 🌲

HouseHelp23 · 05/08/2022 15:02

@Doubleraspberry I have had lots in the past and enjoyed them but I am also drowning in stuff I don’t have a chance of using it. I feel I enjoy the dopamine hit of opening something exciting looking but then find it hard to use it up.

This sums it up for me. I've had them for the last 5 or so years, I started with one cheaper one (ASOS) and last year ended up with three (John Lewis, F&M and M&S) which was just excessive. I'll wait and see the contents lists before I make any decisions but I don't feel that FOMO this year. I'm moving house soon so was curious about The White Company but too many creams and body washes for me. Neither Cult Beauty or F&M appeal either.

Luvacuppatea2 · 07/08/2022 12:54

I’ve just had a closer look at the F&M contents and I DO actually think that this could be the one for me. I like the fact that the majority of the products are not face creams/cleansers/scrubs/exfoliators. I have enough of these to last several lifetimes ! I am liking the emphasis on general body care - plenty of bath/shower gels, body lotions etc.. I’m even happy to get the MD foot stuff and more of that nail oil that I
loved last year. Looks as though this calendar goes on sale very soon (? 12th August) so I think I might have to ‘commit’ before seeing the Liberty contents, unless by some miracle they are released in the next few days. I’m worried that, given the looming financial crisis, each company will produce less calendars this year in the hope of moving them on quickly before Autumn ‘bites’? I could well be totally wrong here though…………..

PrincessConsuela12 · 07/08/2022 13:03

I'm so excited to find this thread! I had a look at some older YouTube videos of beauty calendars from 2021, Cult Beauty & Glossybox seemed to have a great variety & are on my list. For the past 2 years I've received one for my birthday so I'm excited to see which one.

Last year I had one from Clinique, it was good but mostly moisturisers & the year before I had one from ASOS which had a lot of face masks & some very small samples.

PomRuns · 07/08/2022 13:44

@Luvacuppatea2 I’d like to wait to see JL
and Liberty contracts too but don’t want to miss out on fortnums. I could justify JL as well I think…Last year Fortnums was released in October - August is too soon imo
