Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 23/07/2022 12:26

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

I've never had a Selfridges one before so will also be interested to see the contents.

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 08/08/2022 21:43

I remember people enjoying the John Lewis last year, I'm not 100% sure about CB so I'm definitely keeping an eye out for JL.

canofsoup · 08/08/2022 21:56

My husband bought me the L'Occitane calendar last year and I loved it. I'm still using some of the bits and pieces and am now a convert.

I've had the M&S one and a 12 Days of Gin in the past. I use the boxes for storing my arts & crafts.

Arnaquer · 08/08/2022 21:59

I had the H&B one last year. It was my first advent calendar. I did like it and discovered a few new product ranges such as Q&A which I have continued to buy.
Might do M&S this time

Popsicle33 · 08/08/2022 22:47

I'm not keen on Look Fantastic this year. I'll go for my first Liberty one I think. I'll probably get Space NK and John Lewis again too....and maybe ASOS! I'll keep an eye on Selfridge's and Harrods too hehe! Im definitely more interested in skincare than makeup. I just don't want any black eyeliners, Noble Isle & Aromatherapy Associates shite and stupid gua she tools!

clary · 08/08/2022 22:51

The JL one was great. If you take the Dermalogica serum (full size) the CT palette (lovely colours) and the Sunday Riley Good Genes, they would cost £160 so everything else was a bonus for me (Mac lippy, gorge candle) and good sizes.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/08/2022 23:10

I'm the same @Popsicle33 I like nice skin care, especially nice serums and moisturisers. Not shower gels, beauty tools or makeup. I don't mind a mascara, but I just don't wear all these eyeliners and eyeshadows that they keep churning out, and the lipstick shades rarely suit me.

christmas2022 · 08/08/2022 23:30

How much is the John Lewis one?

Is it a lot better than the m and s one?

Same here. Although I like a nice candle, body cream and body scrub too.

AnnieSnap · 08/08/2022 23:51

I had some for the very first time last Christmas. I treated myself to the M&S one and loved it. My DH bought me the Beauty Pro masks one, great as I use these when I remember and they are just short of £5 each.

MidnightMeltdown · 08/08/2022 23:54

Ah yes, I like those things too @OchonAgusOchonOh especially a nice candle Smile

clary · 09/08/2022 00:06

The JL one was £159 last year and I thought it was really good value.

CB was good as in high value of items and lots of lovely makeup, but if you don't wear much it was a bit duff. Great candle tho :)

christmas2022 · 09/08/2022 06:31

I probably won't be able to justify that for the JL one - the m and s one was good enough to be fair although you have to spend a certain amount to get it.

Roundaboot · 09/08/2022 07:17

@christmas2022 You do, but you can always return the qualifying purchase...

I prefer to get skincare too, and fragrance. Not keen on beauty tools usually and I have enough black eyeliner to last me a lifeline. However, I did recently start using the brown Eyeko liquid eyeliner from M&S and I love it. Not something I'd usually choose, which is the whole point I suppose!

Yajebbend · 09/08/2022 07:52

Do l’occtaine do an advent calendar and is it any good??

ajandjjmum · 09/08/2022 08:57

Are M & S definitely doing one this year? I know they missed it a couple of years ago. Thinking I might go for the M & S to quell my FOMO, rather than one of the expensive ones.

PomRuns · 09/08/2022 09:05

my no list would be :
black eyeliner
margaret Dabbs
pillow mists
hand sanitisers
Those awful stick under eye masks.

wheresmyshoe · 09/08/2022 09:28

I'm quite up for a couple of non beauty inclusions this year. I'm one of the rare people who loves a pillow mist. I would like to see a (nudie Grin) candle, room diffuser or something too.
I don't want:
Hardcore cosmeceuticals- they really aren't for me.
Eyeliner that ends up halfway down my face, mascara with the same properties.
Body lotions that pretend to be luxury (Bramley!)
Lipstick
Anything scrubby that looks like a drain blocker
Hand sanitizer

wheresmyshoe · 09/08/2022 09:29

Oh and pills, I really really don't want vitamin or anything else supplements.
The Liberty beauty drop CBD oil has been phenomenal but that is the only exception.

What is the oil and what do you use it for?

wheresmyshoe · 09/08/2022 09:49

OTTO CBD sleep drops, I've repurchased twice. The quality of sleep I'm getting is unbelievable despite being in a high stress period of work.

supadupapupascupa · 09/08/2022 09:57

My DH is repurchasing too! Loves them

Doubleraspberry · 09/08/2022 11:05

Link above to Cosmetopia's excellent Nightmare Beauty Calendar. She's done a second one and between them, they feature quite a few of the things mentioned on here!

MidnightMeltdown · 09/08/2022 11:13

Oh I agree re. Sleep spays and single use masks. I also hate getting primers and sparkly highlighters. Makeup wise, I really only want mascara or a nice bronzer/ blusher.
