Beauty Advent Calendars *spoiler alert - contents discussed within thread*

Is it too soon for a thread on these? I remember last year they were all coming out or going on sale in September so not too far off.

I got the spacenk one last year and it was first ever beauty advent calendar and I loved it. Still using some of the products and have gone to purchase at least five items in full size, two of them multiple times.

This year I'll get the spacenk one again but might also go for the cult beauty as well.

Title amended by MNHQ to alert folk to the presence of spoilers within the thread.

I had F&M and Space NK last year, and I'm determined to only choose one this as despite them being lovely, it all felt a bit much at times. I've probably RPd more of the Space NK products, but the Fortnums one was so beautiful and Christmassy I'm leaning towards that - I still love my velvet makeup bag and I'm rationing the room sprays.

That said, I may go off grid altogether and try the Liberty one, since I've never had it before. I need to look at last years' thread to remind myself when the contents started being revealed.

PugWhiskers · 24/07/2022 19:06

I have a vastly different budget from the above but personally I'm looking forward to the Aldi Lacura one. I've never bought one before but someone I follow on Insta had it last year and I loved seeing what she had each day.

LoveLabradors · 24/07/2022 19:42

I got the F&M one as a birthday present last year (late nov birthday) and I absolutely loved it - had a nice gift everyday for 25 days! The packaging was gorgeous too. Hoping it will be as good this year.

Ha @OchonAgusOchonOh and @MidnightMeltdown let’s enable each other ! I’m used so much up this year on the back of the beauty thread.

i loved fortnums last year. Liberty I think got a bit samey but @GallopingGreen it’s a lovely treat - I’m sure you’re sister would like it.

my top 3 would be: fortnums, Liberty, John Lewis. M and S is also good value generally. I’ll try not to buy 4.

I still have a ridiculous quantity of stuff but it would be rude of me not to support you 😇

The M&S one is a very good but one too. I think it was €35 with a €35 spend so if you would be buying stuff in M&S anyway, it's worth holding on until the calendar is out.

Also, not that I would advocate this, if you return what you bought for the qualifying spend, you don't have to return the calendar.

Eggmcmuffin · 24/07/2022 20:51

I've found my people! Shamelessly place marking as I love the advent calendars. Had white company for a few years so looking forward to looking at alternatives this year!

Claysta · 24/07/2022 20:57

I had the Look Fantastic one last year and loved it. The Fenwicks one is lovely - it’s always beautifully packaged and great products.

ajandjjmum · 24/07/2022 20:57

Can't believe it's time for this thread already - time absolutely flies by! Hello everyone. Smile

H1Drangea · 24/07/2022 21:00

@GallopingGreen I’ve bought myself the Liberty calendar twice , and loved it both times, the box is so lovely it’s on my bedroom wall as a piece of art work !
I hope they change it slightly this year , so I can hang another one on the wall

The M &S was a bit disappointing last year , (IMHO )
DD had the Cult beauty and DIL the White company ( again , really good )
DH has the Hotel Choclat

Bananaman123 · 24/07/2022 21:02

If anyone wanted last years body shop one they are currently on brand alley

Bananaman123 · 24/07/2022 21:02

Think feel unique still have some for under 50 too

LimesandClementines · 24/07/2022 21:07

I was just thinking yesterday it's time a thread was started, thanks OP!

I am determined not to buy one this year as i still have so many things to use after having two last year and many other beauty boxes/GWPs but we will see how that goes...To be fair all I have had to buy this year is cleanser I think so it does save me money the rest of the year!

I loved cult beauty last year and thought it was great value for money but I barely wear make up any more so all the make up has sat unused which will probably put me off it this year.

If I get swayed to buy one it would probably be Liberty as it's gorgeous and I've not have it before, I think the only complaints last year was that it was becoming very samey which wouldn't be an issue for me.

supadupapupascupa · 24/07/2022 21:34

I had Harrods and F&M and M&S. loved them all but Harrods topped it for me

UglyModernWindows · 24/07/2022 21:34

The calendars I've had so far:

2017 - Jo Malone
2018 - Fenwick
2019 - Liberty
2020 - John Lewis

Jo Malone was bit meh tbh but I loved both Fenwick and Liberty ones, so so many good products. Many became my firm favourites and have since bought them on repeat. The John Lewis one was really good too.

Last year, Xmas 2021 I told my DH not to buy one as I still had so many products to use from the previous years. Now debating whether to want one for this Christmas.

UglyModernWindows · 24/07/2022 21:36

Oh and I use the used calendars to store Christmas baubles.

TokyoSushi · 24/07/2022 21:36

I had the M&S one for the first time last year, I absolutely loved it and will definitely be getting it again!

Genius!!

GallopingGreen · 24/07/2022 22:58

Thanks to the previous posters for letting me know about the Liberty calendar! I've signed up for the notification when it comes out.

Luvacuppatea2 · 25/07/2022 06:37

I had F&M last year. Loved it, but later was torn when the Harrods content were released and I wished I’d gone for that instead. I’ve had Liberty in the past, but like others, feel that It has become a bit ‘samey’ recently. I do have my Beauty Drop credit waiting to be spent though. Excited to see the contents of these three revealed……….

I'm planning to use my credit on the Liberty calendar too, but feeling a bit guilty as I have so much stuff from previous years. Think I might have to seriously start working through the stash!

applesandpears33 · 25/07/2022 11:42

I love the M&S one - a great way to try new products without having to pay for a full size product.

clary · 25/07/2022 14:14

haha ladies yay we are back back back.

So - last year (oops) I had:
CB - v good value, lovely makeup in Vic B lippy which I adore and a lovely candle
F&M - beautiful box which I will keep and lovely lovely skincare; WWLab £100 cream was gorge and I unexpectedly love the F&M perfume and have rpd further 10ml sizes on ebay.
JLP - a late late impulse buy - this was excellent. Bought it for the CT palette, SR good genes and dermologica serum - all great but also the Mac lippy is a fave and the candle was lovely. Think that one was maybe the best buy. Some really good products.

So this year ... trying to stick to one

Motnight · 25/07/2022 14:18

I bought my dd an ASOS one last year. She loved it. I got 20%off it due to signing up for the app I think.

DH bought me the Jo Loves calendar. Again really liked it.

clary · 25/07/2022 14:24

Oooh also (not beauty but hey) I got DH the degustabox last year, and while it wasn;t especially good value (cost £40 worth £45 IIRC) it was HUGE and I think he really enjoyed opening it and the things were almost universally nice and eaten.

LookdeepintotheParka · 25/07/2022 15:27

DD and I ended up with Rituals 2D, Revolution and M&S between us last year.

M&S was definitely the winner with lots of useful products and full sizes. Found the Rituals candles a bit disappointing and the products were mostly very small sizes even for travel. Revolution was good value and my teen DD was happy with it.

I think I'll probably just buy M&S again and I've kept all the paper packaging from last year to make DD a bespoke one this year. Looking forward to seeing the advent calendar launches for this Christmas!
