words almost fail me about the price. It is just the colour I like too. Luckily I had decided that I am not getting enough wear out of my woollen coats and really don’t need one.
However pass the smelling salts.

Saurus72 · 16/09/2022 08:43

Wow 😳. I really like Jigsaw for wool coats - I bought a beautiful one in the sale during lockdown, reduced from £300 to £130, that’ll do me!

faustina · 16/09/2022 09:51

It is a pretty colour, but I've seen quite a few similar already this season. Cos have some great coats at the moment too
they really are in danger of hiking their prices way too high

AmethystMoonShine · 16/09/2022 11:05

@Countmeout its a lovely coat but I noticed that it’s not even 100 percent wool for that price ……around 30 percent artificial fibre 😲

Saurus72 · 16/09/2022 15:09

@faustina I’ve tried a few things in Cos lately and I’m really liking them again. I hadn’t bought anything from them in ages because I need to try IRL as mad fit/sizing but now I’m going back to actual shops I can do that. The dresses I’ve tried have been under £100, great fit and v good quality. About half the cost of Toast…

faustina · 16/09/2022 16:31

@Saurus72 - I gave up going to an actual cos years ago because the nearest one was regent street and it was always hot and crowded and they never had my size - it also seemed very office-y - so I'm the opposite to you and really like online ordering (fast delivery and I think free returns). I bought two pairs of shorts this summer and wore them on repeat and they still look like new. I saw a thing the other day which said a sale was imminent and to sign up for the pre-sale email. This is what will happen to Toast if they carry on with their high pricing! Mind you, now it's cooler I'm wearing my carpenter jeans from the Toast sale on repeat. They are brilliant! I don't think I'd have paid full price for them though

MsDastardley · 17/09/2022 09:41

Countmeout. That’s a lovely coat but so expensive. I like this www.toa.st/products/buffalo-check-wool-coat-charcoal-dull-gold. Again very expensive but this one 99% wool.

I saw someone wearing this www.toa.st/products/indigo-denim-workwear-dress-indigo yesterday and I thought it looked lovely. I’m going to order one to try. It looked a lot longer in real life.

Snowyowl78 · 17/09/2022 11:22

I think I am going to try this www.toa.st/collections/womens-new-collection/products/gathered-turrell-check-dress-navy-teal

I was holding back to see a review or two to get an idea about sizing but they are not forthcoming! Has anyone tried it yet?

I tried another dress from toast which has drawstring waist and it was enormous.

still no sign of the sale !

SmaugMum · 17/09/2022 12:02

It’s been ages since I last posted on here but I continue to stalk the thread! I’m still mourning the loss of Toast @ John Lewis, especially the 70pc off bargains. I bought a LOT during lockdown and I did have pangs (that was autocorrected to ‘pants’!) of buyer’s remorse but now I’m glad as my Toast sale purchases will see me through the next few years. I’ve admitted to myself that I have been priced out of Toast now, apart from the odd sale find. The prices are simply mind boggling now.

Having said that, I have invested in the Solovair monkey boots in black as I live in a part of the world where boots are pretty standard from September to May! I love them - with one tiny gripe; the laces are exceptionally long.

Does anyone here wear Kemi Telford? It’s a new brand to me and I have bought a couple of skirts at 70pc off at JL (you can take the girl out of Yorkshire…). I bought the animal print skirt and a bold geometric print one, too, but the latter has been pilfered by DD1 (14) to wear with her platform DMs - and amazing she looks in it too. The skirts are brilliant and very Toast-like in their aesthetic but they are elasticated at the waist (not in a BHS way) so none of that ‘what size?’ drama. Also, they are fully lined and the fabric quality is on a par with Toast. I’ll attach some photos…

@SmaugMum ooh I’ve been looking at Solovair Monkey Boots- what are they like width and fit wise? I ordered some Grenson but could hardly even get my foot in them! My feet aren’t exceptionally wide so I was a bit perplexed.

SmaugMum · 17/09/2022 12:33

@Snowyowl78 , I’m probably a true 5.5 with wide fit but I downsized to a 5 and they feel generously comfortable and will probably accommodate thick socks in the winter months. I absolutely love them (apart from the too long laces) and the leather quality is superb. They’re a million times better in every way than my teen DD’s DM boots.

MsDastardley · 17/09/2022 12:45

SmaugMum · 17/09/2022 12:10

I also really like this dress.

I bought that dress but returned. It is a really nice dress, well made and good quality fabric, but the skirt is really voluminous. It looked ridiculous on me. I couldn’t size top as top was fitted. Great bargains though.

Snowyowl78 · 17/09/2022 13:07

@SmaugMum thank you! Sounds promising!!

Stoic123 · 17/09/2022 14:21

@Snowyowl78 - like Smaug, I sized down 1/2 size on my Monkey Boots (bought direct from Solovair). I am a true 6.5 and the 6 is perfect. Normal width and they are good with medium-thick socks.

Stoic123 · 17/09/2022 14:23

@SmaugMum - they are great (apart from long laces) aren't they? Comfortable from day 1.

agnesmartin · 17/09/2022 15:25

Just a note that I had a look at Cos after it was mentioned above, was impressed with their fabrics. And incase anyone is interested, they have a selection of merino jumpers, thin ones that I'd use as a base layer, in some great colours and reasonable prices.

Also like the look of Kemi Telford's designs but haven't tried anything yet.

SmaugMum · 17/09/2022 16:29

@Stoic123 , I haven’t worn them too far yet (decades on, I’m still recalling the trauma of breaking in DMs and Solovair used to make shoes for Dr Martens before production was shipped to the Far East.) I’m eyeing up some of the thick Nordic-style socks on the Toast website now to wear with the boots. It’s funny/perverse how a £28 pair of socks feels affordable, yet the clothes don’t!

With regards to the Kemi Telford skirts, I forgot to mention another big plus point; POCKETS!

AFingerofFudge · 17/09/2022 17:17

@SmaugMum I have a few of the Kemi Telford skirts and I really like them. There's a good sale on at times on her website too, so always worth a look there.

SmaugMum · 17/09/2022 17:27

@AFingerofFudge , I’ve just checked out her website and I am smitten with this dress:

kemitelford.com/collections/dresses/products/olubunmi-belted-dress

I should probably shut up now lest anyone thinks I’m on commission (sadly not)!

AFingerofFudge · 17/09/2022 17:29

@SmaugMum this is the skirt for me!

dudsville · 17/09/2022 18:09

I love Kemi Telford stuff and nearly bought the dress, it's amazing value and the print is gorgeous but not for me i think. Your skurt @SmaugMum is fab!

ilovecherries · 18/09/2022 05:10

I like some of Kemi Telford designs but frankly the guilt-tripping she does about returns puts me off buying direct. I stalk JL but they haven’t yet had any of the things I want

You also have to pay for the returns yourself. I felt a bit annoyed about that.
