not sure about the dress and jacket - they seem a bit fussy

Has anyone ever been to a swap thing? If I took a dress and a t-shirt could I swap them for a pair of trousers? how does it work and is it worth going?

Countmeout · 19/08/2022 08:27

The jacket looks very big and a bit long. That cross over thing only works for a small bust too I think and although they show it open I can’t think it would work that way. However the price is not as horrendous as it might have been .

Snowyowl78 · 19/08/2022 09:56

@faustina it all depends on price bracket. I haven’t used it yet but plan to! To be honest when I see pics of them on Instagram they don’t look that great, although this weekend if a proper event so could be better.

faustina · 19/08/2022 10:43

Thanks @Snowyowl78 - I'm thinking of going this weekend

mizu · 19/08/2022 10:47

faustina - there are 3 price brackets and if you have a dress to swap for example that was £200 then you get given a voucher (there are 3 different colours) for I think between £150 - £300 and then you can choose something within this bracket.

I've been a few times and it's a bit hit and miss.

I thought I was going to miss it tomorrow as we are going to the beach for the day but have seen there is a TOAST shop about 35 mins away ...........

faustina · 19/08/2022 13:35

Thanks @mizu . It might be a toss up between enjoying possibly the last sunny Saturday in the garden, or negotiating travel in a train strike

Trinitybean · 20/08/2022 16:17

Hi everyone, big Toast fan here and love reading all your stories. I have just got back from the King's Road shop on a Circle mission, unfortunately, it was not a good experience. I arrived with a Delphi tee, a white cotton top, long sleeved linen tee, short-sleeved linen top, all in good condition, she said sorry it was decided this morning to not accept tee shirts, annoying enough, but they classed the tops as tee shirts too, she said it was on the website, I have just checked, it isn't!

I was not amused after making a special trip. They finally accepted the long-sleeved linen top but there was nothing in that category on the rails apart from a vintage pair of cords, lovely but too small. There were a couple of nice dresses and jackets, I didn't recognise any of the dresses so must have been at least eight years old as that's when I got addicted! and they had them in the over £150 category. I can use my token in another shop but am very disappointed, glad I held on to my Gabis I had with me! Tip, check out the rails first before handing over your stuff.

Has anyone else had better luck? I'll try a bigger shop, Mayfair or Nottinghill.

I love Toast and like some of you on here still mourn the space in John Lewis where it used to be, browsing in peace and lovely bargains, them were the days. :-)

mizu · 20/08/2022 16:22

Well I didn't make it to TOAST circle in Wales, just slightly too far from the beach - shame about your trip trinity and frustrating. I went to the TOAST circle rail in Mayfair a couple of weeks ago and there wasn't much there either.

Trinitybean · 20/08/2022 16:35

the beach sounds like a better plan. :-) I almost took my linen Alix trousers, imagine, I would have been scrambling to get them back. The Mayfair one is pretty near my work so it will be slightly less annoying if there's nowt in there.

faustina · 20/08/2022 19:26

@Trinitybean - thank you for all that - very interesting and useful. Sorry you had a wasted journey. I also could't be arsed to go in the end and am especially glad now, as there were only a couple of things I planned to take, one of which was a t-shirt. I think I'll stick to Ebay and tapping my foot for the new Gabis, though also tempted by the denim skirt, but I want to choose between them so it'll have to wait.

Trinitybean · 20/08/2022 20:59

Hi Faustina thank you, I messaged them and they've got back sounding surprised and they're investigating, I shall let you know what they say. Ah yes the Gabis have gone up by £20 eh, I could understand a fiver! miss JL so much. I bought so much stuff in the sale and it's been so hot since barely looked at it.

Countmeout · 21/08/2022 08:51

That was interesting @Trinitybean . Like @Snowyowl78 I was unimpressed by the pictures on Instagram (except York looked as though it might have a couple of interesting things) .
Hoping a few new things appear this week before the alleged video on 23rd.

Trinitybean · 21/08/2022 14:53

Here is the bizarre response from Toast.

"We have contacted the King's Road store about this issue, and all they could advise us was that this is what their policy was for the day as they had issues with the quality checking of tee's and tops.
Therefore, unfortunately we are unable to comment any further on this."

I must check out the Instagram. Can we all take tops into Toast for Circling activity see what happens. ;-)

Countmeout · 21/08/2022 17:14

They must have felt they were getting nothing only tees and tops and not able to get rid of any of them so thought they’d put a stop to it. Probably not in the spirit of the thing. Probably best to stick to eBay for me too. Although I’ve gone off it a bit. Maybe stick all in the back of the wardrobe and rediscover down the line, sometimes works for me.

Laska2Meryls · 21/08/2022 19:01

Yes but
even ebay prices are getting silly..I bid on a dress today, definitely 4-5 years old and used and it went for £71! Shock

Laska2Meryls · 21/08/2022 19:02

Toast dress that was

I see this a lot! Far too much money imo for used.

ebay is weird, I've been trying to replace my grey linen sun dress with the buttons at the back, I've seen ones almost as old as mine going for £70 and it was about £95 new.

I very rarely win anything on eBay now. The prices for Toast items seem really random and I’m not prepared to pay £££ for something from several years ago when I can’t be sure if it will fit or whether it is actually in the condition described.
I’m now thinking that every time I’m outbid it’s something in the bank for a piece from the new collection.

Laska2Meryls · 21/08/2022 20:53

Ive recently seen people selling old used Gabi trousers ( some looking well used!) and putting them down as rrp.£115!!
Cheeky Fkers indeed..

Laska2Meryls · 21/08/2022 20:54

Absolutely @Theteapotsbrokenspout ..

Laska2Meryls · 21/08/2022 20:57

I am holding out for possible next sale now.. and maybe , sometime in the winter, Another Kilver Court visit...but we'll have to combine it with a city break in Bath maybe as its some way from us

Stoic123 · 21/08/2022 21:36

I've been wondering about Toast eBay prices (just started buying a few bits). I am surprised at how high used items sell for compared to other brands (that retail for similar prices as Toast when new). Also, some really cheeky 'buy it now' prices are being asked.

Experienced Toast eBayers - has this always been the case? Also, any tips/'watch-outs' to share?

ilovecherries · 22/08/2022 09:58

I’ve never got over my ‘excellent condition’ gabis complete with extensive crotch staining. Having said that, I’ve also bought a couple of dresses In excellent condition and an alpaca jumper which only needed a good few-bobble and a few days in the freezer.

ilovecherries · 22/08/2022 10:01

I think though a lot of stuff doesn’t sell, and is re-listed. I can’t be doing with a lot of hassle and tend to list BIN at about a third of RRP. I do look after my clothes well, so everything is immaculate. I usually find I sell within a day or two of listing.
