I got the brass shirt today and of course I really like it! Even if it does go down in price it’s sold out now!

Stoic123 · 02/07/2022 14:46

@faustina - I like your Toast RULES but maybe some of the workwear would be allowed in a fast food restaurant job...provided it looked exactly like a 1950s diner?

@dudsville - was your dream like this?

dudsville · 02/07/2022 15:03

Toast is toying with me. The bud check dress is showing again on the website, but as sold out in all sizes. So i figured maybe they're about to put up some returns, been checking all day. Nothing. I love the dress, but usually i wash and iron things straight away, throw away the tags, make my commitment, and i haven't because i would result like to try a 10. How annoying.

😀@Stoic123 !

dudsville · 02/07/2022 14:11

😂, what if i carried an interestingly shaped twig and held it at odd angles whilst flipping the burger in a creative way, and made the buns from home grown spelt?

@dudsville I'm sure that would be fine - as would the lovely 1950s diner (like Ed's Easy Diner which is brilliant)

Nothing damaged really - but everything is a slightly different colour now. It's just annoying, and would have been much worse if the things I'd washed them with hadn't been beige/oatmeal. I've never had that happen with Toast before, and there was no warning on the washing instructions.

I think you might get away with wearing toast in one of those hipster food trucks.
You know- £12 for a small portion of lentil curry but its served by men with beards and called Guerilla 😁 @dudsville

Thats annoying @faustina
Can you rewash with a colour catcher thingy?
I think toast must have had a huge drop in sales, Ive looked back to last year and was buying 2-3 items a month, but I was revamping my style and wardrobe then.
It would have to be perfect to pay full price now and the brown/ yellow palette is not me at all.

faustina · 02/07/2022 15:13

@TempleofZoom - I hadn't thought of hipster food trucks. There's a great one outside Cambridge station where it would probably be fine

faustina · 02/07/2022 15:16

never used a colour catcher. What would I do - just rewash with it? The worst affected are a pair of Kin barrel sweatpants which were oatmeal and are now yellowy oatmeal with a pale yellow fleece lining instead of white. The beige Alix and a pair of baggy Cos shorts in beige are just a bit more yellowy than before

Laska2Meryls · 02/07/2022 15:54

I wore Toast to Sainsbury's and Aldi yesterday.. Aldi may be ok because its seen as canny shopping ( and I did buy some ' interesting ' wine) ..
Sainsbury's maybe a bit plebian...
I also bbqd in a Toast tee today ... But it was ok , I can get away with it ... Was a home ' created/curated chicken 'shish' ( kebab that is around here) from a Honey and Co recipe .. I may have worn a leopard print pinny though 🤦‍♀️

I agree about a drop in sales and I think it's because they've hiked their prices too much. I wonder also if their target buyer is the kind who's shopping more mindfully nowadays? You know - make do and mend etc

They catch loose dye -thats the theory!
So if you wash again it may catch some of the dye.

Saurus72 · 02/07/2022 16:22

@faustina I’d be very tempted to get in touch with Toast about the colour run, fine if they let you know but really not if they don’t…

I’d like to say my buying less was a result of a make do and mend drive it honestly, it’s just down to the brown for me.

I’ve only bought jumpers and cardis in this summer sale - the fair isle from Toast and the rest cashmere from John Lewis, plus randomly, a lovely merino wool jumper from Noa Noa. I’m mainly wfh for the foreseeable, probably in the office one day a week so warmth, comfort and look good on Teams are the priority. I’m in need of a couple of skirts to go with - will look out for what Sézane and Cos have to offer I think. And keep my fingers crossed for lovely new Toast offerings.

Agree.
I also think this season has been poor.
Im usually chafing at the bit and making a list but theres barely anything I like.
If you are reading toast.
Ditch the blooming brown!

ScottishMouse · 02/07/2022 16:31

How annoying about the colour run @faustina. I would agree with trying a colour catcher, it might help take some of the dye out.
I’ve just been to a store to check out the new stuff. Very disappointing. I didn’t see anything I even wanted to try. I was hoping to see the new sleeveless denim dress, even though I know the cut won’t work for me, but they didn’t have it. I got a look at the wee medicine pouch which looked nice online, but it is definitely not worth £125, and the oxblood colour was a bit light and made it look cheap I thought. The black might be better, but they didn’t have that.

Countmeout · 02/07/2022 16:37

I went to look at my label for the trousers and it says wash inside out with similar coloured things. Not sure about anyone else but I have nothing that colour. Also suggests colour may rub off on light upholstery. So I suppose a bit like denim which I am quite cautious about. It’d be interesting to see their take on it @faustina .

faustina · 02/07/2022 16:58

@Countmeout - that's interesting - thank you. It didn't occur to me to look at the actual label (duh) - I just read the washing instructions on the website. I did 'sort of' wash with similar colours. I'm sure there were no problems last time I washed my olive oil dress which is a similar shade. I guess it'll be just those two together next time they need a wash!

dudsville · 02/07/2022 17:52

Gosh, i don't even sort my washing by colour except for their demin. I'll also take this as a lesson learned.

I just charged out of my toast day wear into my toast evening wear. They should pay me a commission! In doing so i also tried on the nud dress again with a belt that matches the blue. I really liked it in a 50s kind of way which is right up my alley. I'll still keep an eye out but I'm happy to keep it.

Stoic123 · 02/07/2022 18:55

Also went to a shop to check the new collection out but didn't try anything on. Not much of interest. All the trousers look huge.

I might go back for a closer look at the collared cardigan in mineral blue and the Rae Wool in Jade is a gorgeous colour so I could be tempted.

The ruffled check mul mul isn't my colour/type of thing but it is much lovelier in the flesh than photos make out (but £195- ouch!). Chevron Yoke sweaters are too short for me but are attractive and could be great on the right person.

No sign of smock or sleeveless denim dress.

MrsCat1 · 02/07/2022 22:04

I too am buying less because of all the brown. Do they not realise that a significant proportion of the population look awful in brown, especially me. I look back nostalgically at some great Toast items from 15 or 20 years ago. Lovely purple silk top, velvet trousers in blue and orange, tops in turquoise and fab dresses in teal and burgundy. Toast can you hear me? Please cut down on the brown or I'll be heading off to new brands.

Saurus72 · 02/07/2022 22:19

Where do you think you’ll go @MrsCat1 ? That’s my problem, I pretty much live in Toast clothes outside of work. I do like Sézane (but no pockets), Jigsaw’s OK on a few (very few) things, Cos good for work, Whistles has a few nice things. But Toast is my consistent go-to. Feel a bit lost without it as my main option.

MrsCat1 · 02/07/2022 22:27

@Saurus72 That's a very good question! I've recently tried some stuff from Sideline, Ganni, and Bellerose. I also buy a few things from Jigsaw and brands like Dilli Grey. But Toast has traditionally been the mainstay of my wardrobe. I loved it for the quality of the fabric, the rich colours and the quirky designs. But recently I've been very disappointed in the collection and colour is central to this.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 03/07/2022 08:33

Just having a look through the new stuff and there’s one or two bits I quite like. The cotton pique jersey shirt, I’d like to see it in the flesh to see what weight it is, and the cotton linen jumpers - although the neckline looks quite high. I also like lots of the other jumpers but I can’t wear wool so I’ll just have to love them from a distance. And of course that workwear jacket in the stone colour.
There’s some nice home and kitchen things as well, so I’m sure I’ll be buying something over the next few months.

TheChattyRat · 03/07/2022 08:59

I really like the new iteration of the chambray (nurse?) dress. At £175 it’s more than I would like to pay so one for the next sale I think.
Did anyone get the cords in this sale @dudsville i think you did? They seem like a useful basic but am umming and ahhing over them.

TheChattyRat · 03/07/2022 09:08

In terms of other places to shop I agree it’s tricky. I like small makers like Justine tabak and love and squalor but prices usually even higher than toast! Not bought from sideline but it looks lovely. Also quite like Kate Sheridan but again ££. I’ve had some success with Albaray but the quality isn’t always there. Also like community clothing.

dudsville · 03/07/2022 09:46

@TheChattyRat , i got the brown dart cords, someone else got the blue ones i think. Those were the £90/95 ones. I also tried the ones that have a front pleat, can't remember what they're called but they're £80 i think.

The first ones are heaven. A little bulky around the top in order to fit my hips, i think people without hips would downsize, for me it just means i wear with longer tops. They make a fabulously quirky leg shape and I've been wearing them for about a week now non stop.

The other cords, with the front pleat, personally i didn't like the feel of the leg seams diwn the front of the leg as i walked and knew for that reason alone that I wouldn't wear them.
