Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

The main issue I have with the sizing is it isn’t consistent across the shop, or the fit is really odd. Things which look nice on the hanger don’t sit well when they’re on.

Floisme · 21/02/2022 08:51

From what I've seen, their sizing is all over the place these days, which is annoying as you used to be able to set your clock by them. They need to address that if they want to tempt people like me, with a very mediocre local store, to shop with them online.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2022 09:26

Plenty of very long trousers in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. Even the regular length were crazily long. I had to buy short.

There are always a couple of nice things, but you have to look through a lot of horrors to find them. I wish they'd reduce their stuff to around half of what they currently do, and concentrate on doing fewer things really well.

I agree, there’s way too much stock. Dozens of types of black trousers, hundreds of dresses. All of which makes the stores so difficult to navigate. I used to work in west London and the M&S in High St Ken was a beacon: well laid out like a proper fashion department store with beautiful displays. Must have spent a fortune over the years. My local store in the burbs was and is a jumbled mess with depressing lighting. But I would hate to see it go and the footwear is unbeatable IMO.

I agree with this. Particularly with tops and knitwear- looks lovely on the hanger but never quite right on me. I have enjoyed M&S denim over the last year and think they do an excellent range of different styles of jeans, good quality denim at a decent price.

This has to be an advert. It has to be. I am baffled as to the almost unanimous praise. I was in M&S yesterday and it was frumpland, acrylic this and polyester that, and then there was a Hobbs section plonked in the middle of it for no good reason. I’m actually more tempted by the men’s clothes than the women’s.
The stock sometimes reflects the area - we have one that's like an old BHS but the big one further afield has a great selection.
I agree about inconsistencies with trouser lengths and some houndstooth ones I bought shrank about 2" on a 30° degree wash - very poor.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2022 12:19

Yes to their jeans btw.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2022 13:17

Just bought these trousers.

lindyloo57 · 21/02/2022 15:39

I was looking at the trousers you mentioned, but being 5ft 2 the reviews say they come up long

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2022 15:41

I'm 5' 2 too. I bought the regular because they hadn't got any short ones. A bit long but that works with the slouchy style, I think.

StarsAndSugarlumps · 21/02/2022 16:26

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie

Just bought these trousers.
My blue ones shrank in length Confused

Washed them on a delicate wash with the black ones which did not shrink. The blue ones are now 3-4 inches shorter than the black.

I agree, which is why I don't like buying online. We have a large M and S that is only a 20 minute drive away so I prefer to go there and take several sizes into the changing room to try on. I also find the sizing is different if it is a different colour of the same thing, especially jeans.
RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/02/2022 18:19

@StarsAndSugarlumps Oh no! Take them back - they're usually quite good about returns if poor quality.

I like them so much that I was tempted to reorder them in the longer length, but they now only have a few sizes left.

It’s so strange when something shrinks but only lengthwise. I’ve had that happen a few times. And this time I know I’m not imaging it because I have measured them against the black ones.

The black ones have washed really well.

Longdistance · 21/02/2022 21:04

I’ve just bought some nice black straight leg jeans in extra long length. They are just so comfortable and the length on me is 👌🏼 My inside leg is 34”, so the length would be good for 35” for any long legged MNs amongst us.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 21/02/2022 21:18

@SpaghettiArmsMurderer

Lots of different colours, nearly all terrible, so washed out. Do people actually wear pastel colours like this? I'd really like something in more jewel like colours, a nice emerald green for example.

pastel colours really suit me whereas most jewel tones do not. I have cool, low contrast colouring and bold/dark colours can be overpowering on me.

They did have an emerald green over Christmas, it was so popular it has sold out.
MistySkiesAfterRain · 21/02/2022 21:19

Love M&S. Can we link to actual items for the lazy among us who just want to click?

MistySkiesAfterRain · 21/02/2022 21:23

I say that and just discovered my rubbish phone no longer copies links so I can't myself, doh!

middleofthelittle · 21/02/2022 21:26

M&S in the last 18 months I think has come on leaps and bounds I'm a younger audience for them (early 30's) and really enjoying it.

OinkyO · 21/02/2022 21:56

Are the jeans generous around the tummy?

FinallyGotAnIPhone · 21/02/2022 22:26

@StarsAndSugarlumps I have the navy trousers with red stripe in extra long and they have also shrunk. Annoying as they are lovely trousers.

Longdistance · 21/02/2022 22:39

@OinkyO yes, the jeans seem generous around the tummy area. I don’t particularly like fly jeans as fund them uncomfortable, but the ones I bought today were fine.
Wrt what M&S are doing, they’ve cleverly brought in other companies and selling their stuff online as a platform to see what sells and getting their ideas from them. Well, that’s my hunch.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 22/02/2022 10:41

@RampantIvy I buy my dd small tall PJs from Next as she is tall ( and slim ) but you might find the tall are long enough for you.

shewhomustbeEbayed · 22/02/2022 10:44

I find the shoe sizing annoying, I am a 41 and always between their sizes, would love to be able to buy from them.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/02/2022 19:03

The jeans are definitely cut well for tummies - their high rises are properly high rise.
