Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

Post pandemic I've lost my tolerance of handbags and really prize coats with a internal pocket for my phone and credit card.

Same here. I tried on some raincoats in Seasalt earlier today, but am sticking with my 3 in 1 coat from Decathlon. It isn't very fashionable, but it has loads of pockets and internal zipped pockets (9 pockets in total)

notanicepersonapparently · 19/02/2022 16:38

@JanisMoplin I think everything is bl**dy polyester these days, and extra disappointing as the coat had a swing ticket on it saying 'with wool' or some such (10% in actual fact), but at the price I'm prepared to give it a go as the fabric felt nice.

CharacterForming · 19/02/2022 16:39

I agree that "with wool" for something that's 90% polyester is pretty naff. But at that price I guess it was never going to be all wool.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2022 16:40

They have some things that look nice - until you touch them.

I did get a blouse and a dress around Christmas time though, both of which I've worn a lot.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 19/02/2022 16:46

Oh and some brilliant wide legged trousers.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 19/02/2022 16:53

I've recently ordered this coat after seeing it in store (where, typically, they only had an 8 or a 22!) www.marksandspencer.com/twill-single-breasted-coat/p/clp60528131?color=CHAMBRAY&prevPage=srp#intid=prodColourId-60528131

I actually welcome coats and knitwear made of things other than wool, as I am allergic to it and finding nice coats without it is very difficult. I wish they would make them with other natural fibres or at least more eco synthetics than polyester though.

PAFMO · 19/02/2022 16:58
@PAFMO don't you find the supersoft jumpers pill so quickly, I had brought a couple around three years ago that pilled so badly after only a few times of wear, I no longer buy acrylic jumpers for this reason, its cashmere (in the sale) or cotton I only buy now, the zara jumpers with viscose in are just as bad.
No, I wash them on a 30 wool wash with wool wash liquid. Come out perfect.

I tell you where I will never again buy knitwear- Gap/Banana Republic. Utter shite. Bobbled after one wash- and I bulk bought a couple of years ago in their 70% off. Use the whole lot when I'm cleaning up. I did get a BR one from Zalando, couple of weeks ago, down from £120 to £18 so I thought, oh go on then. The quality is shocking. I've kept it but I wouldn't if it had been £120!

Aderyn21 · 19/02/2022 17:00

I was in Cardiff M&S today. Went in looking for that mock crock leather blazer that was on in This Morning on Friday, but it was fucking dire in there - wall to wall granny jumpers and slacks. Food hall was still great though!

lindyloo57 · 19/02/2022 17:02

Love the blue coat, I did buy a new with tags yellow coat on ebay from m&s, the size I usually buy a ten, but it was way too small, I am now trying unsuccessful to resell it.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 17:15

@lindyloo57 my three year old supersoft jumper hasn't pilled at all. I just put it in a normal 40 degree wash.

I sometimes wonder if newer washing machines with longer washing cycles are the problem because the clothes get agitated more. Our washer is at least 18 years old, and a full wash cycle is about 1.5 hours. The wool wash is about half an hour.

lindyloo57 · 19/02/2022 17:22

I don't know what I did wrong i have a 20 minute wash I use for my knitwear, maybe I will buy one more of the jumpers and see if its better then the ones I purchased before.

WinnieMac · 19/02/2022 18:07

@PAFMO Jigsaw and White Stuff are the same with bobbling. I wash them in the same way as my M&S cashmere, and they come out looking like dishcloths.

Lookingoutside · 19/02/2022 18:37

‘Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality’.

Ooh interesting @stevalnamechanger

Was there anything resembling the SB Gary yoga pants?

saddowizca · 19/02/2022 18:46

I bought a me+em pea coat that bobbled. I don't think that they are as good quality as they should be for the price.

Toast also winds me up a bit, if I am spending over a hundred quid on a jumper, I don't want to handwash it.

I'm always happy to big up the better M&S stuff because they're a moderately priced, relatively ethically sound UK business, that pay their taxes and keep a lot of British women in decent jobs, so I'd rather people spent their money there than many other places.

Exactly @CharacterForming that's how I feel about them too.

saddowizca · 19/02/2022 18:56

@RampantIvy

I wish M and S (and anyother shop that sells pyjamas) would offer different leg lengths in pyjamas. One of the reasons I don't wear pyjamas is that the legs are always too short and I don't want them flapping around my shins on a cold day (I only wear pyjamas in cold weather).

I guess the only answer is to buy men's pyjamas.

Can you tuck them into your bedsocks?

I also wish that pyjamas weren't hipster style - I don't want a bare midriff while I'm asleep, I insist upon top to toe flannelette cosiness with no drafts.

It must be the This Morning effect, none in my local store and almost sold out on line.
bluepeacock · 19/02/2022 19:04

I went in for a school skirt for dd and came out with loads of t-shirts and leggings for her, all 3 for 2. It was so nice to find comfy, good quality casual stuff for her in nice patterns and with age-appropriate motifs etc.- I used to buy all her stuff from next but they've been going down the pan for a while now and you can't seem to get "normal" clothes for kids anymore - everything seems to be frilly or cropped or in strange fabrics.
I also picked up a nice jumper which is a direct rip-off of a Hush one I bought last year - except the hush one lost all the colour in the wash and this M&S one has just washed really nicely! Also bought some jeggings and I've been living in them ever since I bought them (make a nice, slightly smarter change from my usual sweaty Betty leggings)
Il be going again I think!

Thelikelylass · 19/02/2022 19:05

Their basic v neck jumpers last forever (I have just ordered two more, really like that camel one with the white trim for £15)
I ordered the houndstooth trousers in Autumn, so comfortable to wear so just ordered the £15 navy ones, a stripy three-quarter striped top and a lovely tan cross body bag (I have a beautiful hobo bag that has lasted me for years)
Oh and some vegan perfume.
I love M and S these days and find the website easy to choose stuff with the filters. Basic black knickers lost their way though!

Crumbleburntbits · 19/02/2022 19:14

@RampantIvy I went into M&S a few weeks ago and didn’t see any clothing I liked. I wouldn’t wear any of the colours that sweatshirt comes in or the straight legged jeans. I know I’m too fussy! Smile

One positive thing I really like about M&S stores is that their clothing and accessories sections are very wheelchair friendly.

SunshineCake1 · 19/02/2022 19:17

@ballerinaqueen

Are the leggings in the good move range completely opaque? I've been trying to find a decent pair for age but find my underwear shows through a lot of other brands Blush
I have three pairs. Not opaque at all.
lindyloo57 · 19/02/2022 19:50

I must just be unlucky with m&s tops, I brought in December the sweatshirt with sparkle written on the front in sequins, worn it 3 to 4 times and it's bobbles under the arms, it cost £30 i just expected it to wear better then that for that price, I see they have cheaper sweatshirt tops now, I wonder if they are any better. I do love the jeans and wide leg joggers.

winniemac · 19/02/2022 20:49

@RampantIvy I can't bear pyjamas because I can't stand the waistbands. I wear men's nightshirts or David Nieper nighties (both made in the UK). Worth a look?

I think M&S is great if you can be a bit picky. I wouldn't buy anything from Hush as it's also artificial fibre crap, but overpriced to boot. If I were going to buy tat, I'd rather not pay Hush prices.

PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2022 21:03

Do you mean you can see through all of them? That’s a bit rubbish if you’re doing a workout with a lot of squats!

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 21:34

Which proves my point about not providing a better choice of colours.

I don't wear pyjamas in bed. I wear huge T-shirt nighties. I like to wear pyjama trousers if I have an early shower then stay up to watch TV but don't want cold legs.

CocteauTwin · 19/02/2022 21:47

I have also noticed an improvement in the offerings in M&S, lately and how a lot of their styles are inspired by more expensive brands like Sweaty Betty and Hush.

I got a beautiful Good Move sweatshirt last year which has side pockets. I sized up to get a nice oversized look. It washes brilliantly. I also recently got a cotton dress from Per Una which is a pleasant change from the usual viscose and polyester. I was able to get it in a petite length, which was great for me. If it had pockets it would be perfect. And I buy their cashmere every winter, preferably in the sale.

I quite like as well that they use some of their own staff to be influencers on Instagram. I know it's still a way of selling to you, but it seems more honest than them paying the usual suspect influencers to do the shilling. I particularly like Sam, a girl from their Aberdeen store. She is petite and very slim (I'm short and not remotely slim) but I still like a lot of the looks she creates.
