stevalnamechanger · 18/02/2022 20:38

Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

I’m glad it’s not just me that finds the website overwhelming. I don’t want all the random brands. If I want to buy Craghoppers stuff, I’ll go to their site.

It would be nice if they had better “edits” that showed you sensible numbers of casual trousers, or plain t shirts etc.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 15:06

As a reality check for this thread, I think M&S clothes are still absolute crap

What, all of them @Crumbleburntbits? Every single piece? When was the last time you had a good look around and M and S store? I bought this sweatshirt recently and have worn and washed it several times, and it is still as good as new as are the Sienna Straight jeans (recommended on here). The cashmere jumper I bought in November still looks as good as new as well. The denim jacket that I bought last summer has been worn all the time and is still brilliant.

I do believe there can be such a thing as too much choice.

I agree. When I was studying psychology as part of my marketing qualifications one of the points made was that if you gave someone to much choice they tend not to choose anything at all. I think M and S should focus on fewer pieces but offer more colour choices instead. I often see something I really like but it is only available in orange or khaki for example.

Also, the super soft jumpers, lots of different colours and patterns

I used to like them, but the sleeve length on the current ones is shorter than the jumper I bought three years ago and are now too short for me.

JanisMoplin · 19/02/2022 15:14

I don't like their dresses very much; they all seem very poufy and frilly for me ( They look great on my DD). But I have this problem with dresses everywhere these days. Waiting for the milkmaid trend to pass.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 15:26

I don't like their dresses very much

Neither do I. I'm more of a Seasalt person for dresses.

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

Why are so many people on this board obsessed with ad hunting?

Commenting in general…

Ethics? Influencers are supposed to declare any interests and inducements.

I understand that, but it does feel like the moment someone recommends a store or tries to start a conversation about a brand there's several po-faced "Is this an ad?!" posts with much overuse of this emoji Hmm and none of these people can be dissuaded from that idea, even if the OP comes back and proves their long-term posting credentials and doesn't have any affiliation with any kind of marketing. It just always makes otherwise nice threads seem a bit sour, it's horrible being accused of being a shill and it's unnecessary derailment when people are enjoying a thread. No one is required to read them, if you don't like it then don't buy the products that are being linked to, but there's no need to ruin other people's enjoyment. I love clothes, I love getting recommendations, i love chatting about different products thay are on offer, that's why I like these threads, even if they are advertising (which I don't generally believe they are when we're talking about big, established brands). I saw someone accusing a poster of advertising recently when they'd linked to two different items from two totally different stores, it just makes absolutely no sense.

The other thing I don't understand is the disparity in when the accusations are made. There's a new thread about Stitch Fix, Dermatica or Skin+Me etc. every other day on here, all of whom one imagines need more help on the publicity side than some of the household name stores, but no one ever raises an eyebrow at those when even I reckon the majority of those are a marketing ploy.

buckleten · 19/02/2022 15:29

The jeans are great, though I find with other types of trousers that the length can be a bit variable, often I will need to get a long even though I'm not tall at all. Bras I find are great if you stick to the shape or type that suit you best, otherwise sizing can be inconsistent and best to try on. Good move stuff is fab, and I have a lovely thinly padded Good move coat which is perfection in every way! My one complaint is that jumpers are nearly always too short in the body for me.

PAFMO · 19/02/2022 15:31

I've got 8 of the supersoft jumpers. All bought this winter, all with either 20% or other offers. So 8 perfect for work (not too hot, not too cold, not bulky and lumpy, lovely colours, perfect fit - I'm 5'10 with long arms and body) jumpers which worked out about £15 each. People keep asking if it's cashmere.
The wide leg jersey trousers are brilliant and I've got some black work trousers (slightly boot cut) which are exactly the same style as Boden Hampshire but £70 cheaper.

TheHoptimist · 19/02/2022 15:44

M&S is a British company, we need to get behind our British industries at the moment. Sorry if you aren't in U.K. but MN has a majority UK following

Shame M&S don’t do the same and buy British rather than importing from china

If supporting the uk matters to you then M&S is not the place to shop

CharacterForming · 19/02/2022 15:48

They don't manufacture in the UK: if you want to buy all UK manufactured clothes then that's your choice but you'll have a limited and very expensive selection.

But they employ a lot of UK staff, and they pay full UK tax.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 15:50

I must have longer arms than you @PAFMO because I find the arms on the supersoft jumpers are shorter than they used to be, and stop just short of my wrist.

Lucked · 19/02/2022 15:52

I have these wide leg trousers in both colours and they are great.

side stripe trousers

I still find most of their jumpers too short. The last sweatshirt I bought had to go to the charity shop after a wash as it shrunk. I do have a couple pairs of their jeans at the moment but only because I have put on weight and don’t want to spend much, they do go a bit baggy and because I am apple shaped I have the sliding down problem.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 19/02/2022 15:53

Lots of different colours, nearly all terrible, so washed out. Do people actually wear pastel colours like this? I'd really like something in more jewel like colours, a nice emerald green for example.

pastel colours really suit me whereas most jewel tones do not. I have cool, low contrast colouring and bold/dark colours can be overpowering on me.

itsgettingweird · 19/02/2022 16:04

I'm loving m and s currently!

I have 4 pairs of their £15 high waisted jeggings!

I also have a soft light knitted hoody.

I'll have to have a look at their gym wear (I really don't need more but I have a voucher so it's not real money right?!)

Their nightwear is also lovely and soft and washes well.

Toanewstart23 · 19/02/2022 16:12

@TheHoptimist

Marks employs approximately 70,000 people
The majority of which are female

Longdistance · 19/02/2022 16:14

I’ve been buying their extra long jeggings. Amazingly comfortable and a great length. I’ve written to them requesting more extra long length trousers etc as they run out quickly, hence they’re popular.

Do you not find them itchy? I tried one but acrylic doesn't work for me.
RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 16:17

I wish M and S (and anyother shop that sells pyjamas) would offer different leg lengths in pyjamas. One of the reasons I don't wear pyjamas is that the legs are always too short and I don't want them flapping around my shins on a cold day (I only wear pyjamas in cold weather).

I guess the only answer is to buy men's pyjamas.

lindyloo57 · 19/02/2022 16:21

@PAFMO don't you find the supersoft jumpers pill so quickly, I had brought a couple around three years ago that pilled so badly after only a few times of wear, I no longer buy acrylic jumpers for this reason, its cashmere (in the sale) or cotton I only buy now, the zara jumpers with viscose in are just as bad.

notanicepersonapparently · 19/02/2022 16:22

I agree with you OP. I've found a few things in there recently which I've really liked, and other than tights and knickers I haven't bought anything there in years. I got this coat which I will be wearing with jeans and boots which I thought had an Andrea Martel in Call my Agent vibe. I don't understand why M&S have styled it with that dress or why they don't show a picture of it fastened up so you can see how it hangs. I did see it in the shop and liked it.

While I was there someone was trying on this dress which looked great in a cool Muji kind of way (but not so cool on me)

I also got these, which are quite light weight so I'm saving for the Summer

JanisMoplin · 19/02/2022 16:30

Chinos! That's another thing I think M and S does well.

@notanicepersonapparently That coat looks great and very good value. I like it in olive too.

They also need pockets
CharacterForming · 19/02/2022 16:30

Pea coat is quite nice - and it has an internal pocket, which is a huge bonus with an outdoor coat. Post pandemic I've lost my tolerance of handbags and really prize coats with a internal pocket for my phone and credit card.

Mine haven’t. I’m wearing one today in its third winter with no pilling at all. I’ve stopped buying cashmere, it pills in weeks. That breaks my heart when it costs so much.

JanisMoplin · 19/02/2022 16:33

I have just seen the pea coat is polyester. Thought it was wool. So maybe not such good value. It does look nice though.

I'm glad you typed this.

I really liked the look of their summer/spring chinos last year with the elastic leg.

I'm now doing a job where smart/casual is required and was thinking of trying some this year when they are back out. I loved the lighter colours too
