Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

@CocteauTwin

I have also noticed an improvement in the offerings in M&S, lately and how a lot of their styles are inspired by more expensive brands like Sweaty Betty and Hush.

I got a beautiful Good Move sweatshirt last year which has side pockets. I sized up to get a nice oversized look. It washes brilliantly. I also recently got a cotton dress from Per Una which is a pleasant change from the usual viscose and polyester. I was able to get it in a petite length, which was great for me. If it had pockets it would be perfect. And I buy their cashmere every winter, preferably in the sale.

I quite like as well that they use some of their own staff to be influencers on Instagram. I know it's still a way of selling to you, but it seems more honest than them paying the usual suspect influencers to do the shilling. I particularly like Sam, a girl from their Aberdeen store. She is petite and very slim (I'm short and not remotely slim) but I still like a lot of the looks she creates.

I follow Sam on Insta and like her outfits too

Is it this one @CocteauTwin?

I have that and love it.

StarsAndSugarlumps · 20/02/2022 16:15

Thanks for the heads up about the “M&S insiders” on Instagram. Much easier to see how I might actually wear things!

CocteauTwin · 20/02/2022 16:23

@RampantIvy

Is it this one *@CocteauTwin*?

I have that and love it.

Yes, that's the one. I got it in pink and am tempted to get it another colour.

@SoManyTshirts

I wanted to buy gym leggings at M&S but had so much trouble getting my feet through the ankle I gave up. Shame as otherwise they were a good fit.

I have size 7 feet, so not unusually huge.

I had this with some Sainsbury jeans, I returned them and the lady implied I had the wrong size, I was actually wearing a pair (in a different colour) at the time of the return. She couldn't work it out! Trying to explain the problem was useless! 😂
RampantIvy · 20/02/2022 18:25

Well, I was going to go down to M and S at Meadowhall tomorrow, but the river is threatening to engulf it so I will wait until it is safe.

SunshineCake1 · 20/02/2022 19:54

@PurpleDaisies

I have three pairs. Not opaque at all.

Do you mean you can see through all of them? That’s a bit rubbish if you’re doing a workout with a lot of squats!

No. Not see through.
TheOrigRights · 20/02/2022 20:19

@teawamutu

The running gear looks good but it still boils my piss that so many leggings only seem to have that stupid little zip pocket at the back.

I WANT A PROPER POCKET THAT HOLDS MY PHONE FFS.

Guess what I found in the little pocket at the back of my running leggings? £20 note! I'm glad they are now waterproof as it's been washed.

Loads of leggings with phone pockets on the side of the leg out there.

PurpleDaisies · 20/02/2022 22:00

@SunshineCake1 opaque means not see through. It sounds like the leggings are totally opaque.

Maybe I’ll try again with a few different styles. I’ve struggled to get the right sizing but perhaps there’s a perfect pair out there for me!

BusterGonad · 21/02/2022 06:06

[quote CharacterForming]Yes the new Goodmove leggings which look like Sweaty Betty have side pockets for phones. I have an old Goodmove pair which aren't a great fit on me but I might see if I can try on the new ones in store.

I'm always happy to big up the better M&S stuff because they're a moderately priced, relatively ethically sound UK business, that pay their taxes and keep a lot of British women in decent jobs, so I'd rather people spent their money there than many other places.

Rosie underwear is good and I've got some nice jeans (Sienna and Lily I think).

I've got my eye on a couple of dresses: what do you reckon to these? I can't be doing with floral.

I love that dress, if it wasn't a maxi I'd be tempted.

Wiredforsound · 21/02/2022 06:34

This has to be an advert. It has to be. I am baffled as to the almost unanimous praise. I was in M&S yesterday and it was frumpland, acrylic this and polyester that, and then there was a Hobbs section plonked in the middle of it for no good reason. I’m actually more tempted by the men’s clothes than the women’s.

RampantIvy · 21/02/2022 06:39

Maybe your local M and S doesn't have the better product ranges in @Wiredforsound. My local M and S isn't a great advert for them, but the one in Meadowhall is much better, and the one at the Metrocentre better still.

So are all the other threads about other brands adverts? People like different things and M&S is an old store with many loyal customers.
okformoreinfo · 21/02/2022 06:55

I do not get the advertising claims made by a few at all. This is style and beauty. If someone can’t praise marks and Spencer a little does that mean I can’t praise John Lewis for a jacket I’ve found or Boots for a concealer, the Body Shop for a shower gel? Honestly, just go away and stop bringing people and posts down.

Floisme · 21/02/2022 07:10

If you think it's an advert then report it. I can't say I've noticed much improvement in my local branch which is dying on its feet, but I have a soft spot for M&S and I'd like to see them turn things around.

Agreed, I've had some beautiful clothes from M&S. My favourite and much admired coat is from there, the Alexa Chung hooded faux fur coat. I love it and I bought a few of the dresses too. I've noticed that it's just really 'cool' to hate M&S on MN.

We've had lots of smaller stores close and now have a very large one in an industrial estate.

This is a great store. It's possible there is still loads of shit spattered in between the other stuff. But it's definitely got a great range of stuff that appeals to me and fits me.

Juno22 · 21/02/2022 08:17

I think there's a snobbery about M&S that I just don't get. There are things I don't like in there, just as there are in any shop, but I've bought some really nice things recently. Goodmove gym gear, trainers (fashion, not for running), boots, underwear, cashmere and merino knitwear, a waterproof parka.

RampantIvy · 21/02/2022 08:19

I agree @Juno22. I don't like the dresses they have right now, but there casual clothes and jumpers have been really good just lately.

AuntieMarys · 21/02/2022 08:26

No trousers for tall women.

The dresses all floral/ pattern floaty midi length, while very pretty are not exactly what I want for work wear. This is common across all shops at the moment.
RampantIvy · 21/02/2022 08:27

Or tall men

flashpaper · 21/02/2022 08:32

I finally found a new pair of workout leggings with a tie waist from m&s the other day. I was over the moon, I love them.

Using4532 · 21/02/2022 08:34

I'm on the limit for long trousers in M&S at 33" leg, it's similar to Boden and Seasalt for leg length so not proper tall, a few things are extra long, the £12.50 joggers I wear in 14L are available in extra long which must be about 34" - 35" leg so a bit longer but it is quite limited

Zazdar · 21/02/2022 08:45

Have they addressed their over the top vanity sizing yet?
