Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

Yes the new Goodmove leggings which look like Sweaty Betty have side pockets for phones. I have an old Goodmove pair which aren't a great fit on me but I might see if I can try on the new ones in store.

I'm always happy to big up the better M&S stuff because they're a moderately priced, relatively ethically sound UK business, that pay their taxes and keep a lot of British women in decent jobs, so I'd rather people spent their money there than many other places.

Rosie underwear is good and I've got some nice jeans (Sienna and Lily I think).

I've got my eye on a couple of dresses: what do you reckon to these? I can't be doing with floral.

Just taken a look - they have exactly 10 pairs of trousers across the entire range in my size and 6 of those are those horrible ankle grazer styles.

Very few sizes in extra long available. That should tell them something surely?

WinnieMac · 19/02/2022 13:20

@CharacterForming They look nice on the models - but I know what they'd look like on me (the waist would be sitting around my hips, and the 'small' sizes would still be made for people with DD boobs). Plus the first one is that bastard recycled polyester again. My spinster schoolteachers used to wear floral polyester dresses, so I'd find it hard to get on board with that one.

ChickenStripper · 19/02/2022 13:27

@Crumbleburntbits

As a reality check for this thread, I think M&S clothes are still absolute crap! The menswear has improved slightly over the last few years but the women’s clothes has a long way to go.
As a reality check? 😂😂😂
Scianel · 19/02/2022 13:29

I got some nice relaxed fit long sleeved cotton t shirts recently. Really comfy to wear round the house.

Laiste · 19/02/2022 13:30

All their tops are so bloody short and wide Hmm

I want to get behind M&S but I have boobs and a waist. I'm not a box. And i like my tops and jumpers to be long enough so that when i sit down i haven't got a bare cold back!

Their jeggings are nice but the colours all come up different sizes and when you go in store it's all 12s and 20s in Short and everything else is ''waiting to come in''.

ChickenStripper · 19/02/2022 13:30

@ConfusedParticle

Yep, I agree with a pp who said there are just too many items to look through. I do believe there can be such a thing as too much choice. It's why i can't deal with browsing ASOS.

The more stuff, the more tat, to be honest. The quality of almost all high street stores has continued to plummet as the stock has increased. It's like a race to the bottom. I'm including sweaty betty in that, too.

And in relation to the psychological side of online shopping, i think having too much choice actually creates a negative feeling - whenever it feels like im endlessly scrolling through hundreds of dresses, my mind weirdly switches off and I can't be arsed. You can have too much of a thing, you know?

The worst for this has to be Next - as if I am going to scroll though 3683 dresses 🙄😂
Wehadabetamax · 19/02/2022 13:33

@teawamutu

The running gear looks good but it still boils my piss that so many leggings only seem to have that stupid little zip pocket at the back.

I WANT A PROPER POCKET THAT HOLDS MY PHONE FFS.

I wear Tikiboo or Lucy Locket Loves leggings for running and both have a big pocket on the back. My phone fits in fine. Tikiboo have started putting pockets on the legs too, but I don't like running with my phone against my leg.
IheartJKRowling · 19/02/2022 13:35

I love M&S jeans, I have lots of pairs in different styles and they are better than my Acne jeans that I paid £220 for.

I can never understand the hate for M&S but the love for bloody awful Lucy and Yak dungarees, Cos, hideous all in ones or whatever the current favourite is on this board.

My business is selling new and nearly new clothing and it has been for over 25 years and in all that time the number of clients who have asked me for a pair of brightly coloured toddler inspired dungarees is zero. S&B style doesn't reflect what most people want or wear, at times it's the "Emperor's New Clothes" from niche, expensive brands.

People are "sniffy" about M&S because it's not seen by fashionistas as "cool" but in general it offers great basics, some brilliant footwear, this year the dresses are particularly good and it is accessible to most people.

This isn't an ad, their bra sizing is about the worse I have experienced and they still use way too much polyester but they are nowhere near as bad as some people on this board suggest. I think it makes them feel superior to the "peasants" who like M&S and shop there 🙄

www.marksandspencer.com/animal-print-midi-shirt-dress/p/clp60538715?color=REDMIX I’m going to order this as it looks like one I bought in the summer last year and got loads of compliments on but this a different colour way.

I also switch off from websites with too much choice, I agree next is the worst for this. Sometimes I want something very specific so filter away but at other times I’m browsing and just end up switching off.

Malibuismysecrethome · 19/02/2022 13:37

No, sorry, I still don’t like it it’s all still frumpy and naff.

Carpediem15 · 19/02/2022 13:38

@NatriumChloride

Huge success with M&S jeans recently, and their dresses. It’s definitely turning a corner!
I am just the opposite. Recently their dresses have been far too long for me and lots only come in 1 length and their "short" jeans are now longer so have to buy them elsewhere. I like shopping there and have lots of their clothes but going longer does not work for me. Can recommend their Magic Shaping High Waisted Leggings.

Just had a look and love that Black and White tea dress.

Cocolapew · 19/02/2022 13:46

I bought a pair of Goodmove light chino type trousers during lockdown, £9 in the sale. I'd kill for a navy pair but they haven't done them again.
I have a navy basic sweatshirt posted about earlier. It gets wore to work and threw in the wash and tumble dryer regularly and looks good as new. I would size up though.

I don’t like the frills on the first one and the second one does weird things to my eyes. Sorry 😢

dottydodah · 19/02/2022 14:07

Got a great pair of joggers and hoodie there .Have some nice dresses in as well .Maybe they are upping their game at last

clare8allthepies · 19/02/2022 14:21
Thanks for the link, these look great and I’ve just ordered some!
User639710 · 19/02/2022 14:21

I like the cotton rich straight leg joggers at £12.50 for in the house, I have a few pairs in different colours and wear them all the while, they wash well too

dottydodah · 19/02/2022 14:22

CharacterForming Like the first one very much.Not so keen on second though

SunshineCake1 · 19/02/2022 14:27

Posting to check later as have birthday and Christmas money to spend.

Iamkmackered1979 · 19/02/2022 14:27

I saw 2 lovely blouses and a denim top there the other day, the active range looks quite nice too, I wouldn’t buy jeans from there but have trousers that are lovely.

thebigpurpleone · 19/02/2022 14:29

@Trolleedollee

Totally agree. It’s my current go to shop,

Brilliant jeans including fabulous Autograph ones

Lovely cotton blouses

Dresses come in 3 lengths. I only buy plain but they fit beautifully and are excellent quality

Brilliant trainers which I keep being asked of they are Air & Grace

Wide legged joggers / trousers for £15. Wash brilliantly and fit beautifully

@Trolleedollee which trainers
RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 14:41

I agree that M & S have upped their game. I bought these cargo trousers recently. I have washed them and they didn't shrink, but haven't worn them yet as it has been too cold. As a pear shape with a waist and hips they fit beautifully.

Nancydrawn · 19/02/2022 14:42

It's much better than it was 5 years ago, although it's still not always on the mark for me. (Pun!)

But thank God it's moved away from the "random ruffle near the exposed shoulder" moment of a half-decade ago.

So, for instance, not all these coats are things I'd buy, but almost all of them are good of type, and I can imagine someone I know buying (a couple exceptions, but largely good): www.marksandspencer.com/l/women/coats-and-jackets

CaliFrown · 19/02/2022 14:46

@IheartJKRowling That's a bit harsh! I would gladly buy from M&S (and do buy their cashmere jumpers every winter, because they are long-lasting and wash well), so it's hardly a case of me being a fashionista or regarding M&S customers as peasants Confused.

I just don't like their current offerings (in store - there might be better things online). But I don't wear trousers/joggers/leggings, so maybe they are better at those.
