Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

@ConfusedParticle

Yep, I agree with a pp who said there are just too many items to look through. I do believe there can be such a thing as too much choice. It's why i can't deal with browsing ASOS.

The more stuff, the more tat, to be honest. The quality of almost all high street stores has continued to plummet as the stock has increased. It's like a race to the bottom. I'm including sweaty betty in that, too.

And in relation to the psychological side of online shopping, i think having too much choice actually creates a negative feeling - whenever it feels like im endlessly scrolling through hundreds of dresses, my mind weirdly switches off and I can't be arsed. You can have too much of a thing, you know?

Yeah that puts me off m&s too. And then they start Including other brands stuff as well and it's just too much.
BarbaraofSeville · 19/02/2022 12:23

But I do agree about ranges being too wide. What I want from a search engine (in the off chance that this is an ad thread) is filters that work, so you can reliably select item type, sleeve length if relevant and colour, that sort of thing, and for it to show you no more than 30-50 items that actually match the type of item that I'm looking for.

I don't want to endlessly scroll and be given the feeling that they might have what I'm looking for, but they're not going to tell me whether it's on page 2 or page 222.

daisychain01 · 19/02/2022 12:24

@Zucker

Surely this thread need #ad in the heading. Hmm
M&S is a British company, we need to get behind our British industries at the moment. Sorry if you aren't in U.K. but MN has a majority UK following.

i was thinking how nice it is to see them launching good new products. I'm going to take a look now. I bought a really good quality pair of M&S slippers, really cosy and nice colour.

Yeah I've just been musing about that on another thread. I think it fosters this idea that the perfect item is just a click away and so leaves me permanently dissatisfied.

Toanewstart23 · 19/02/2022 12:27

@daisychain01

Agreed
And I like Marks and support it
BUT
A separate issue is that mumsnet should not be used for oblique marketing by companies

I’m not saying this thread necessarily Is
But it’s happened many times in the past

I think that sums up how I feel too. I haven't got time to look through that many items in the hopes they have what I want
ZittiEBuoni · 19/02/2022 12:31

Anyone taking me for a shill will find me joining in a general moan on another thread about how awful their website is.

WhiteJellycat · 19/02/2022 12:36

As a web / programmer I get hacked off when you cant narrow down searches. Like full length with pockets.

The worst for this H&M. I want boys long sleeve t shirts. Sounds simple? Well it's not. You can choose themes, garment type but you cant drill down more directly. Tops > long sleeve tops. or if you can I cant work out how. As a developer if cant work the search function then it's over complicated and clunky.

So searches need to be easy to drill down with additional features to refine on. It's not hard. If each item.has the right metadata. Bringing back 100+ items when I know H&M only do under ten types of boys long sleeve tops is frustrating.

I find M&S much better. But it's liketheir shops. If you want leggings they are spread over a few ranges. You almost need to be a existing customer to know what range you like.

campion · 19/02/2022 12:36

Some nice stuff online which then turns out to be out of stock in anything but size 8 or 22. My current sparks offers me 30% off a coat which is out of stock.

Usual story and very frustrating.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 19/02/2022 12:40

Why are so many people on this board obsessed with ad hunting?

Commenting in general…

Ethics? Influencers are supposed to declare any interests and inducements.

Toanewstart23 · 19/02/2022 12:41

Because oblique advertising is wrong

teawamutu · 19/02/2022 12:43

The running gear looks good but it still boils my piss that so many leggings only seem to have that stupid little zip pocket at the back.

I WANT A PROPER POCKET THAT HOLDS MY PHONE FFS.

PolkaSpace · 19/02/2022 12:43

It's not really a good ad though is it you're going to get loads of people commenting on how shit it is.

I want pockets in pajamas as standard
BeaLola · 19/02/2022 12:44

Do the wide leg stripe down side trousers come up small or generous ?

Also what are the trainers everyone seems to love as so comfy ?

I have bought much more from there last 6 months - comfort slips, wide fit boots , merino jumpers , and last summer sone lovely midi dresses

stevalnamechanger · 19/02/2022 12:45

Good god , ad 🤣🤣🤣 nope just a plump lady who likes wide leg trousers

  • re quality - I haven't had any huge issues
  • price - I've found a LOT of decent M&S stuff also on the eBay outlet shops
  • sizing ! Yes I have to order heaps , try and send back ! Bra sizing is awful as is the leggings but I just try and see what fits

I actually went back this morning to return what I bought yesterday that lol wasn't the right size and found more stuff I liked like this dress - perfect with boots and tights . Felt nice quality .

M&S clothes - great new stuff!

@ChipsAreLife
Only premium brands, darling. Nothing the plebs can afford.

stevalnamechanger · 19/02/2022 12:49

I also posted about how good I found Abercrombie a few weeks ago , because I bought from there 🤣

100%! The M&S good move leggings I bought have a big pocket going down the thigh 🙏🏼
ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 19/02/2022 13:06

I really like their jeggings style jeans.. they are literally the only jeans I’ve found that I can comfortably wear after a hip injury.
Also the super soft jumpers, lots of different colours and patterns. Quite similar to some of the boden ones, for about a third of the price.

chummymummy7 · 19/02/2022 13:08

I got this jumpsuit - it's really comfy but looks stylish:

DSGR · 19/02/2022 13:09

There are some things in M&S that are brilliantly priced and which I get every year. They are jeans, cashmere jumpers, merino jumpers and cotton vests. Also love their knickers!

WinnieMac · 19/02/2022 13:09

I'm astonished by this!

I have no need of "active wear" or jeans so couldn't comment on the M&S offering, but I went to have a prowl around the clothes section yesterday in the hope of finding a couple of nice bits, and it was complete crap. A sea of horrible t-shirts/sweatshirts with words emblazoned across them (Mon Amour - that kind of thing. Just why??) Lots of dreary-looking leggings and a million jumpers made of "recycled polyester". Polyester is repulsive the first time round, never mind in its second incarnation.

What I'd like to find is cotton and wool. No silly slogans, and no breast pockets on shirts (what woman puts things in a breast pocket?) No silly features (seams up the front or on the neck and such like). Just plain and easy to match with my existing wardrobe.

NatriumChloride · 19/02/2022 13:10

Huge success with M&S jeans recently, and their dresses. It’s definitely turning a corner!

saddowizca · 19/02/2022 13:11

As someone who loves the high street, I'm really happy to see Marks and Sparks getting some love. I might stop by and have a proper look.
