Went in today and saw all the new active stuff stuff - lots of stuff copied from sweaty Betty and seems good quality .

Also some nice sweatshirts very clearly hush copy great quality feel.

Just purchased my second short quilted light puffa jacket which always is complimented .

Also love the wide leg joggers ( posted about these before)

Overall impressed and bought a fair bit !

Anyone else had much success??

I like their jeans - lots of different styles/fit/lengths. I can't say I saw much else that appealed to me last time I was in there - apart from the food!

Rina66 · 19/02/2022 11:18

I love the Lily jeans, I size down though. I've got the blue, grey and black ones.
Also got a gorgeous leather shirt dress in tan recently, with 20% off.
I also bought a khaki faux leather shirt jacket and khaki suede boots.
They had a lovely colourful stripey Christmas jumper that I wish I'd bought too.
I only ever used to buy knickers and sandwiches from there, but like a pp said, perhaps it's my age!

Recently I’ve bought Sienna jeans, in two different leg lengths so I can have a pair with turn-ups, and one of the plain coloured sweatshirts - it has pockets - and is lovely and thick. Also bought a “tie dye” sweatshirt but I’d describe it as ombré rather than tie dye, the fabric is quite thin and creases easily though so not sure what it will look like after it’s been washed a few times.
Best buy has been a black leather crossbody/ camera bag, 20% off on a rare decent Sparks offer, and I liked it so much I bought the tan one too.

@Zucker

Surely this thread need #ad in the heading. Hmm
@Zucker I was thinking the same.

I still dislike Marks and Spencers. Yes, they do have some lovely items in their collection. However, their collections have far too many items and most of them end up in the sale which eventually ends up in landfills.

Marks and Spencer currently sell 282 of their own brand dresses on their website. (767 dresses if you include other brands)

In comparison, the number of dresses on other fashion websites:
White Stuff :46
Fat Face: 50
Joules: 59
Uniqlo: 65
Hobbs: 119
Boden: 177

I wanted to buy gym leggings at M&S but had so much trouble getting my feet through the ankle I gave up. Shame as otherwise they were a good fit.

I have size 7 feet, so not unusually huge.

PurpleDaisies · 19/02/2022 11:29

I’m in between sizes for the good move leggings which is a shame but I’ve got a lot of their workout t shirts. I particularly like the twist front ones they had last year and I hope they do more.

I also love the jeans-lily and sienna for me too, plus the high waisted jeggings.

LittleMissA · 19/02/2022 11:36

Does anyone else have an issue with the quality of M&S clothes recently. I don't buy much from their but bought some jeggings last yr that only lasted 3-4mths and a jumper I got in the jan sales I've just noticed has a hole along the neckline, not on a point that would be stretched or anything so I'm really disappointed and it's putting me off buying stuff from there.

HowlingKale · 19/02/2022 11:38

@AmbushedByCake1

My problem with M&S is the quality is often poor. I bought a couple of merino wool jumpers and the arms came apart after one wear. Makes me reluctant to buy anything else!
Yes this.
Armadeus · 19/02/2022 11:48

I've bought a few things from Seasalt in interest free instalments via M and S. Even got a sale jumper by them cheaper than with seasalt itself. Considered buying some Celtic and co boots from M and S too that way. I could have bought them in one go but wanted to spread the cost.

Armadeus · 19/02/2022 11:49

@LittleMissA yes I bought a cardigan probably 6 months ago and it's developed a hole along the neckline.

caranations · 19/02/2022 11:50

Last time I went in about ten days ago, there seemed to be rather an 80's vibe going on, with the colours and styles.

GettingStuffed · 19/02/2022 11:53

My two nearest M&S have closed down and I have issues with textures so hate buying anything other than jersey on line and I do love a good feel of clothes before I buy.

Rillette · 19/02/2022 11:55

Want to love M&S but the jumper I bought in December has shrunk so badly in the wash. My Poundland Pep&Co one has fared much better!

over50andfab · 19/02/2022 11:56

Does anyone know if any of their gym leggings are seam free as in no seam front to back through the crotch?

Hasselhoffsheadband · 19/02/2022 11:59

Why are so many people on this board obsessed with ad hunting? If someone so much as whispers the hint of a brand name someone will race to the thread within the first page to accuse them of being planted by the company. It's style and beauty, of course people are going to chat about brands they like, especially when the brand in question has been so utterly woeful until recently and has had a significant overhaul. It's really killing the mood of the board, and as someone who has been (incorrectly) accused on here in the past, it's a crap feeling.

Totally agree. It has happened to me as well and it was for something that definitely wouldn't need to shill for custom on Mumsnet!

I think it just makes some people feel superior that they are soooooo clever.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/02/2022 12:00

I got running leggings from there and they weren't comfortable at all. Is their sports wear really technically good?

honeyfox · 19/02/2022 12:01

I don't usually get or like much in M&S but the new Flexifit Sleep range is sooo comfortable it's unreal, especially the sleep leggings. I had to go back and buy them in two other colours.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 19/02/2022 12:03

Would someone please put a link to the nice dresses mentioned, I’ve had a quick look but I don’t know which ones they are.

Thanks in advance 😊

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 19/02/2022 12:05

@StarsAndSugarlumps

I agree! I went off them for a couple of years where they really seemed to have lost the plot, but I have really liked their recent offerings.

These “office loungewear” trouser are great.

And I got gorgeous boots in the sale - a pair in black and another in cream - like DMs but soft, and instantly comfortable. I would happily have paid 4 times the price.

The only thing I have been disappointed in was leather jackets. I ordered 2 but they were each quite stiff and also strangely short and tight in the sleeves. However, customer services were great when the return went missing. I just messaged them and they immediately refunded.

Ha, I bought those this week! I’ve been looking for a dupe for some Me + Em wide leg joggers and these were the closest I could find. I really like them.
Crumbleburntbits · 19/02/2022 12:07

As a reality check for this thread, I think M&S clothes are still absolute crap! The menswear has improved slightly over the last few years but the women’s clothes has a long way to go.

GeneLovesJezebel · 19/02/2022 12:07

They had some denim look jeggings in lots of colours recently. Felt like they’d be good quality.
I bought a long length padded coat from them , I’m impressed. Thin but warm, with good pockets for dog walking stuff.

Crinkle77 · 19/02/2022 12:09

@AmbushedByCake1

Yep the quality is awful. I got a cardigan the started to bobble after only being worn a couple of times and washed like a dish rag so took it back. And another cardy has gone all out of shape and bobbly but not as quickly. I used to love Marksies but it's just gone crap.
Floisme · 19/02/2022 12:16

I think the quality reflects the prices. Back in the day when M&S was seen as a yardstick for high quality it was much more expensive - in real terms - than it is now.

ConfusedParticle · 19/02/2022 12:20

Yep, I agree with a pp who said there are just too many items to look through. I do believe there can be such a thing as too much choice. It's why i can't deal with browsing ASOS.

The more stuff, the more tat, to be honest. The quality of almost all high street stores has continued to plummet as the stock has increased. It's like a race to the bottom. I'm including sweaty betty in that, too.

And in relation to the psychological side of online shopping, i think having too much choice actually creates a negative feeling - whenever it feels like im endlessly scrolling through hundreds of dresses, my mind weirdly switches off and I can't be arsed. You can have too much of a thing, you know?

BarbaraofSeville · 19/02/2022 12:21

[quote 50NewYork]These sweatshirts are fantastic value - lots of different colours

Lots of different colours, nearly all terrible, so washed out. Do people actually wear pastel colours like this? I'd really like something in more jewel like colours, a nice emerald green for example.

But I do agree about the jeans, and the Goodmove stuff. I have the longline hoody in blue and black, and the £25 joggers in black and I pretty much live in them in the house.
