Before you all say don’t be ridiculous, you’ll look like the bride- there is no bride- it’s a gay wedding. I love this. lOVE it. Could get the floral one but of COURSE I want the cream one. Can I???????

I think that the dress you first linked would not be flattering at all for anyone bigger than a tall willowy size 6-8. And this isnt a dig at anyones size, it wouldnt be flattering on me either.

Crispynoodle · 10/02/2022 20:56

I found it very difficult to find a mother of the groom frock. I finally decided on the pale blue, it was comfortable and looked great. So good I did the same again for his sister this time in emerald.

@Floydthebarber

No, you'll look like you are trying to make a statement about the lack of bride. If you go with a colour you will look like a bridesmaid.
So no cream because she'll look like a bride, no colour because she'll look like a bridesmaid. Black or dark? Nah, I'm sure someone will say she looks like she's in mourning for her son getting married. The MN acceptable dress code for a mother of the groom is pretty empty really. You've not got many choices left OP!

Just wear what you want!! Some of these comments are ridiculous - if you are looking at what people wear compared to the couple who are getting married then sad on you!!

Kenworthington · 10/02/2022 20:57

I look good in a low plunge v neck and I would tape my boobs so it wouldn’t be flashing because I look quite flat chested actually but I def can’t wear anything strappy, I need to have my shoulders and tops of arms covered with something due to the ink

I agree with PP the dress in red is beautiful. I would get it in that colour.

WinterSpringSummerorFall · 10/02/2022 20:59

Go flamboyant, but go dark, jewel colours. Not white or pale. You'll be FABULOUS.

ChipsAreLife · 10/02/2022 20:59

I LOVE those dresses!! I was a bridesmaid at a gay wedding. We all wore amazing white long dresses. It was very glam. No one was confused as to who was getting married because they knew one or both of the grooms and the grooms wanted us to look a certain way.

I would def ask your DS. I'm sure he wants you to look and feel amazing!

@kenworthington I love this one xx

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 10/02/2022 21:00

It would be in danger of looking a bit Freudian in that context unfortunately.

Maybe you could wear it to a ball or similar on another occasion?

turnaroundtime · 10/02/2022 21:00

@Kite22

Oh God - it looks like a toilet roll dolly from the top of the loo!

My thoughts exactly.

The answer is definitely no or 'Don't be ridiculous'

Even with no bride, it screams "attention seeking", and, in truth is really horrible. You'd have to pay me a lot more than the £450 it would cost anyone, to wear it anywhere, and a lot, lot more than that to wear it to any of my dcs' weddings.

In your truth maybe but many of us think it's gorgeous
Onairjunkie · 10/02/2022 21:01

I think, so long as you get you son and his partner’s blessing, TOO FUCKING RIGHT YOU CAN.

harrystylestaylorswift · 10/02/2022 21:01

The floral one is stunning. As is the cream but I agree with others that people might think you're attention seeking.

FelicityPike · 10/02/2022 21:02

The first frock….but in the red colour option!!
Bloody gorgeous!!

DisforDarkChocolate · 10/02/2022 21:04

Far too bridal. Pick another colour.

lljkk · 10/02/2022 21:04

I like this one a lot.
I'd refuse to attend as MoG in anything like that Dolores Umbrage style blue suit above -- just would be so terrible for me.

Please Please Please show us the dress you choose, OP, eventually?

And assume the matrimonial couple are both in smart suits, I strongly hope they want you in something quite frilly.

Are there men/maids of honour - what are they wearing?

UPDATE from the groom:

Love the dress! ‘Too much’ is a phrase you shouldn’t worry about xx

He then also said

‘Red one is lush!’

Here's what came up when I clicked the Vivienne Westwood link Grin

saltedcaramelanything · 10/02/2022 21:06

Oh the red is amazing. And think it would go with how you describe your style.

Mossstitch · 10/02/2022 21:06

I like the floral, tiered one. Kept going back to it then realised why it looked familiar..... I wore a very similar one for my wedding in 1979💒 quite like that hippyish style that goes with flats and a denim jacket but then I don't really like conventional clothes. 🤷 I'd say wear what you love and are comfortable in, so long as you run it past your son and he's happy💞

LizzieSiddal · 10/02/2022 21:07

Aww that’s a lovely message from your son! Go for the dress and have a fab time!

Iwanttobeanonymous · 10/02/2022 21:07

No to either. Cream too bridal and the floral looks like someone has dropped stuff all over it.

And well, I don't know know how old you are but its for someone young. As in about 20. And I assume you are not.

lljkk · 10/02/2022 21:07

ps: does OP need to coordinate her outfit with the other MoG?

I never realised before how much I'd enjoy planning outfits for a BFG(ay) Wedding.

Pumasonsatsumas · 10/02/2022 21:07

Why not the red which is stunning? Floral looks like a loo roll chewed by a puppy. If the wedding is unconventional in all the other ways who cares if you wear white?
