Before you all say don’t be ridiculous, you’ll look like the bride- there is no bride- it’s a gay wedding. I love this. lOVE it. Could get the floral one but of COURSE I want the cream one. Can I???????

I thought the tattoos were a top too. Sorry OP I hate that dress. Hope you find something wonderful to replace it.

MercedesBenz · 12/02/2022 17:36

Such a pity it didn’t fit
Keep looking and post your final choice please .
Have a fabulous day !!

DiscoBadgers · 12/02/2022 17:36

Another one who thought the tattoos were a t shirt. It does look weird as a combo. Sorry OP!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/02/2022 17:37

Have you looked on Wolf & Badger?

CharacterForming · 12/02/2022 17:38

I think the tattoos would look amazing with a red sleeveless dress. That DvF dress in the picture above looks tempting.

PinkSyCo · 12/02/2022 17:38

I thought the tattoos were a top too

Oh fuck so did I! In that case OP you need either a strapless dress or one with sleeves that cover your whole arms, no in between.

Kenworthington · 12/02/2022 17:40

Ha see I LIKE the jarring between a frou frou frock and the tattoos .

Very amusing thread, thanks for providing it for all the entertainment @Kenworthington.

I actually thought you were a friend of mine until you posted your photo.

John Shuttleworth fan - check

Chopsy- check.

I was amazed when you weren't her!

Anyway, go for the frock in red, I think it will look fantastic.

I'm a flamboyant dresser, a very different style, but pretty much always guaranteed to be the 'overdressed' one. I don't consider it to be too much, but some people don't like it, I bloody love twirling around in front of the mirror, always did! What's wrong with wanting to look fabulous?

I got married in vintage blue Dior, if someone had rocked up in a full-length ivory gown it wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest.

My DC are mid-teens now so it's going to be a while (if ever) I have an MoB/G situation, but when it happens I certainly won't be 'blending into the background' and I imagine that everyone knows me well enough to be completely unsurprised by whatever I wear.

(And no, it won't be attempt to 'upstage' anyone, it will just be me, dressing like me).

Alarae · 12/02/2022 17:50

@Kenworthington I've lurked through this whole thread and I have to post and say that dress looks absolutely fabulous and wish I could pull it off myself! Then again, I did opt to go with a full on purple ruffle dress for my work Christmas party so maybe you are my kindred (ruffle) spirit. If you can't dress how you want for an occasion, when would there ever be one?

It's a shame that dress doesn't fit but I hope you update with any new choice (or bigger size?).

1frenchfoodie · 12/02/2022 17:50

Urgh, how frustrating. There must be somebody on this thread that can suggest something flamboyant and niche that works. I’ve browsed so many new to me brands today alone. May be worth a look on vinted too - ‘special occasion dresses’ is a search category.

Alarae · 12/02/2022 17:51

PS your comments on dressing for yourself and not reserving for best makes me seriously wish to track down a ruffle/tulle/some floof skirt and live my best life.

MajorCarolDanvers · 12/02/2022 17:54

Absolutely not

Pangolin44 · 12/02/2022 17:55

FWIW, if I was going to be the MoG at a gay wedding I'd wear this and employ my cigarette holder and a massive up-do for the extra.

sleepyhoglet · 12/02/2022 17:55

Buy it in cream and get it professionally dyed in colours to match the wedding

harriethoyle · 12/02/2022 18:04

@Pangolin44 who in their right minds ISN'T a John Shuttleworth fan?!

Pangolin44 · 12/02/2022 18:07

I actually think this would be perfect for you @Kenworthington, I think the ruffles are fighting with your sleeves so a simpler but similar silhouette would work brilliantly.

(Also stretchy, double bonus).

Kenworthington · 12/02/2022 18:12

That’s gorgeous on that tiny model @Pangolin44 but I’d look 20 months pregnant In it

OP posts:
Pangolin44 · 12/02/2022 18:12

True @harriethoyle, he is niche though!

I've just booked tickets to see him in Castleton caves of all places.

Don't keep asking me why Reg, it just happens to be that year.

Kenworthington · 12/02/2022 18:13

Oh my GOD I want that feather trimmed one.

OP posts:
Pangolin44 · 12/02/2022 18:16

Me too @Kenworthington. I'm slightly obsessed with Taller Marmo (whose strapline Is 'Made in Italy for the World's most fabulous people').

Pangolin44 · 12/02/2022 18:16

Bloody well get it woman!!!

PickAndChooseMe · 12/02/2022 18:27

@Pangolin44

FWIW, if I was going to be the MoG at a gay wedding I'd wear this and employ my cigarette holder and a massive up-do for the extra.
The blue one is gorgeous!!
PickAndChooseMe · 12/02/2022 18:29

Ooooh the short one in pink!! 😍

Mother of the groom- can I wear this???
RightOnTheEdge · 12/02/2022 18:44

@Kenworthington You sound fabulous! Someone I would love to know.
I'm so sorry that some people have been so spiteful, they are pathetic.
I hope you have an amazing time at the wedding I'm sure you will rock the dress.
Don't let the bastards get you down!
Flowers Flowers Flowers

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 12/02/2022 18:44

@Kenworthington gosh I'm so embarrassed. I know you said you had tattoos but for some reason it didn't click. And I'm a tattooed woman myself. Blush

As I'm approaching 50 I've found myself wondering if clothes are 'too young' for me. This thread has reignited my 'fuck you' gene at least!
