Before you all say don’t be ridiculous, you’ll look like the bride- there is no bride- it’s a gay wedding. I love this. lOVE it. Could get the floral one but of COURSE I want the cream one. Can I???????

If you like feather dusters, it's perfect...😳

wentworthinmate · 11/02/2022 22:16

Your taste is so me! Love the floral and the Westwood (I just couldn't carry them off as a 16).

SaySomethingMan · 11/02/2022 22:17

I love it OP. I was going to say west the first one but it seems I’d be going against the grain.
The floral is surely fine? It’s fabulous. You’ll be a very glam mother of the bride.

Do ask your son what he thinks though, if you think he’ll be honest with you.

TheSunIsStillShining · 11/02/2022 22:17

Because you do not seem to lack a sense of humour and are honest with yourself I can freely speak my mind (which is very rare these days, so in itself thank you for that).

That dress is terrible on any size imho. I would never be caught dead in it.
BUT I mostly either dress streampunk or japanese visual kei style, both over the top) so why should it matter what my opinion is?
As long as you have that feeling of "this is me, I feel great in this", I agree to not give a hoot about what other ppl say :D

and it surely helps if there is no bride :))

SaySomethingMan · 11/02/2022 22:19

@Kenworthington

UPDATE from the groom:

Love the dress! ‘Too much’ is a phrase you shouldn’t worry about xx

Excellent. Wear OP. If you’re sure he’s being honest
MrsMo21 · 11/02/2022 22:20

@Kenworthington

This thread has made me laugh so much, can we be friends please?

Wear the dress, take Colin and have the best time ever 🙌🏻

Mrsbclinton · 11/02/2022 22:22

And this is why I dont follow instagram!

How do they think single parents cope all day every day, or do they not exist in their perfect insta world?

dreamkitchenhelp · 11/02/2022 22:24

Wear the floral one, mad hair and converse ir docs
You will look fab just go fot it. Your son sounds fab

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/02/2022 22:25

709 messages in, it might be a bit late for this, but @Kenworthington, you could ask MN to edit the thread title to add something like Read OP's updates, she has bought a dress, her son loves it.

You do it by reporting your OP and explaining what you want.

Okipoki · 11/02/2022 22:27

Bloody hell, OP, you've got the patience of a saint, I'd have bogged off and/or asked Mumsnet HQ to blitz the thread 20 pages ago.

Now I think we should all STFU so this thread doesn't go up to page 40 and there's no room left for the photo of the dress!

Next poster - DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!

MuffinStrops · 11/02/2022 22:28

@Wagsandclaws

Op, I've only read your posts but I fucking love that dress! ( and you 🤩) I can't wait to see pics of you wearing it, ignore the haters.

Fwiw I wore a needle and thread dress to my dd's wedding ... it was quite a lot really but then I'm a bit 'extra' at the best of times.

I was 49 and quite fat ( size 18 ) and thought fuck it, I don't want to wear a horrible shift dress with a matching jacket 🤷‍♀️.

I sold the dress on eBay afterward as I'd never have cause to wear it again, my dd loved it - the attached pic is me and son in law. Enjoy your sons wedding Op 😊

That dress is beautiful. You look great!
Tigger1895 · 11/02/2022 22:36

Do you want to be the center of attention? Or are you there to support the couple?

NoSauce · 11/02/2022 22:37

Bloody love that dress OP. Perfect. Glad you’ve ordered it.

Athenajm80 · 11/02/2022 22:45
@ShowOfHands ooh I have a photographic vision in mind for this now. Splendid. Maybe they could hold me aloft or perhaps kneeling at my (dm clad) feet???
Yes!!! Maybe also with a sad DM face. Where will the bride be in this photo? 😁 Hmm....could you get someone to play the non-existant bride, slain by your mighty dress? 🤔

I do think sparkly DMs would go with the dress in a totally non matching batshit way. My buddy wore silver sparkly DMs at her wedding, they looked awesome.

MammaMacgill87 · 11/02/2022 22:52

Ask the person's getting married but in my opinion NO absolutely not, not only will you make a complete fool of yourself, open yourself up for judgement, it's just completely tacky and rude of you. Presumably you've already been married that was your moment, all eyes and thoughts should be on those getting married not the sniggers of what the mother of whoever has dared to wear

NoneOfYour32Potatoes · 11/02/2022 22:55

Nasty

RussianSpy101 · 11/02/2022 22:57

@MammaMacgill87 thank god you found this thread!!! I’m sure nobody on the 29 pages before you thought she could ask the grooms!!! Thank you for bringing your wisdom and sharing it with us all.

Bellie710 · 11/02/2022 23:00

@Kenworthington

Crikey it’s the thread that no one wants to rtft of.

To summarize - for newcomers-

-There is no bride
-It’s my son marrying another man
-I showed ds the frock. He thought it was Fabulous and I should get it
-Some people loved it
-Most people hated it
-Many many people thought I wanted to be the bride/marry my son/some other weirdass scenario
-Lots of people thought I had no taste
-Some people sent me some nice pm’s
-Some people thought I’d look great or something and are now my new bffs

And then
——>>>I ORDERED the frock.

The end

I think all colours of the dress are gorgeous, it is hilarious though the number of people still worrying about upstaging the bride though! Even better that you son thinks it is fabulous, have an amazing day :)
budlea64 · 11/02/2022 23:00

I love it. Maybe not the champagne colour though for reasons already given.
The site is so nice and full of the most beautiful dresses I’ve joined up as I’m hopefully going to be mother of bride and groom x2 in the next couple of years.
I would be picking a midi length dress with some colour though.

RussianSpy101 · 11/02/2022 23:01

@budlea64 save yourself the trauma of posting a thread about it won’t you!! There’s some nasty cows on here!

Devora13 · 11/02/2022 23:04

Ask them

buddylicious · 11/02/2022 23:05

I love it but there's a time and a place to wear it, and someone else's wedding is not it!

MammaMacgill87 · 11/02/2022 23:06

@RussianSpy101 thank God you had the kindness to point out my reply to a 700 message thread, thanks for your kindness and wisdom. On my mobile app where I can't see the full thread or replies, nor my update less than two mins later saying 'discard my comment' what a hero you are. Again thanks so much xxxxxxx
