Before you all say don’t be ridiculous, you’ll look like the bride- there is no bride- it’s a gay wedding. I love this. lOVE it. Could get the floral one but of COURSE I want the cream one. Can I???????

Do ask your son, perhaps check with his husband to be's mother too. O think from what you say about yourself you should say "Fuck Off" to classic understated elegance. There as so many lovely dresses ;on the needle and Thread site i'm sure you will find one you like. My son isn't gay, and he has worked in fashion. I know he would like that dress.

MotherOfWhippets · 11/02/2022 11:01

I think it's gorgeous.

I don't think you can do the cream - the floral would be fantastic. I love the pink too but it's sold out.

TGIFbishes · 11/02/2022 11:06

I'm bridesmaid and this is my dress. Ha, in a world where you can be anything. Be fabulous.

Try folkster.com
It's an Irish website.
They do lovely dresses.
Well worth a look.
Sorry I can't do links

LadyEloise1 · 11/02/2022 11:09

Perhaps someone could do a link for me please to folkster.com ?

Teawaster · 11/02/2022 11:19

I love the floral and red dresses but I do think they scream ' Look at me , there may not be a bride , but I am going to do my best to steal the show' . I am definitely not in favour of the more traditional Mother of the groom look and I am 59 but I think it would not be the best choice . I also think it would not be flattering on anyone who wasn't tall and very slim . That feathery look will add pounds and drag a persons height down

thetombliboo · 11/02/2022 11:41

It's fantastic. I love it. Ask them see what they say and if it's a yes then have the best time 😍

I don't think they are the type of dresses OP likes as per the info she gave. They are typical occasion dresses. Very Amy Huberman, nice but correct me if I'm wrong OP, not her style.

A lot of the dresses people keep showing are the typical occasion dresses that everyone wears at weddings. What's wrong with being different? At least if you don't like what OP has chosen you could stick to what her style is. Everyone doesnt all have to look the same at a wedding.

LadyEloise1 · 11/02/2022 12:23

@Theblacksheepandme
Thank you for doing the link.
I think the page you opened in Folkster is in the Bridal/ Bridesmaids section.
They do other types of dresses on the website.
I saw the Folkster Madeleine dress on a tv programme - make over show- The Style Counsellors on RTE tv.
The dress was beautiful on screen - much nicer than on the website- the embroidery is 3D. Absolutely stunning.
It's a beauty bright happy dress.
I know @Kenworthington doesn't want the typical MOG style.

SophieSellerman · 11/02/2022 12:28
@SophieSellerman I’m open to friendship offers. 😊
We could make it a double wedding. I like a good flamboyant dress, too.

@DiscoBadgers

How about this?
That dress is lovely but sadly they don't have that one in OP's (and my) size. Lots of others on that website though, I've got my eye on a black floral embroidered one Grin
Flyinggeese1234 · 11/02/2022 12:31

OP this thread has made me think of (and search Google images for!) all the amazing dresses worn at some Italian weddings, where guest just go all out. It’s fabulous, and I think not about upstaging anyone but more about showing respect for the special occasion that it is.

Only you will know what’s appropriate for your son’s wedding/venue/time of year etc but in theory there is nothing wrong with going OTT and finding something you love is priceless, usually wedding threads are about not being able to find anything to wear!

Kenworthington · 11/02/2022 12:50

Well. I’ve ordered and paid for it. With actual real money. I have sent a picture of it to the other mother of the other groom, warming her of my EXTRA-ness. She thought/said it was fabulous. I don’t know whether she jay have been being polite. Perhaps. But I LOVE IT. Big up the other outrageous frock lovers.

Who knew a bloody frock could divide opinion so much?! Thanks for all the lovely pms too Smile

Late to this thread! Happy you ordered it, think it’s fab, wear whatever you like!! Grin

Hope you all have a tremendous day.Flowers

Nonnymum · 11/02/2022 13:00

I think you should ask your son

Aprilx · 11/02/2022 13:08

I think it is lovely, but it isn’t normal to wear a full length dress to a wedding (unless you are a bride or bridesmaid).

midsomermurderess · 11/02/2022 13:11

OP has asked her so, he loves it. Why don't people filter an OP's posts at least.

Kenworthington · 11/02/2022 13:24

Normal is overrated anyways @Aprilx

It sure is.

polavary · 11/02/2022 14:28

I love it and think it’s fine for a wedding as MOTB at a gay wedding. Check with the grooms and if there’s even a HINT of uncertainty in their response then don’t wear it.

BordelDeMerde · 11/02/2022 14:28

@Kenworthington

Anyways it’s away past my bedtime and I need to be up for work in the morning so I can earn enough money to buy ludicrous loo-roll-cover dresses to satisfy my insane longing to marry my own child. Nighty night
You are fucking excellent, OP! Brava! Grin
Strokethefurrywall · 11/02/2022 14:31

I know I’m late to the party but I LOVE IT!

Crack on OP, you will look fabulous. At least you’re not wearing Moiras pope get up that she wore to officiate Davids wedding in Schitts Creek!

Have fun marrying your son 😂

Mother of the groom- can I wear this???
Westerman · 11/02/2022 15:19

It's bloody gorgeous! Just not suitable for your son's wedding.
I'd love to buy it, and flounce around the house in it, feeling fabulous!

MsFogi · 11/02/2022 15:21

No way!!! It'll look like you want to be some sort of pseudo-bride, totally weird!!
