Before you all say don’t be ridiculous, you’ll look like the bride- there is no bride- it’s a gay wedding. I love this. lOVE it. Could get the floral one but of COURSE I want the cream one. Can I???????

@Kenworthington I don't like your frock but I bloody love you! Grin

Franticbutterfly · 11/02/2022 08:23

Unless it is a joint wedding...no!

SunonmyFace · 11/02/2022 08:29

Love the red dress, and understand the choice of the floral one.

Not really getting the comments about upstaging and attention grabbing in this context, a mother of the groom ( or bride) should always look fabulous at their child’s wedding, if not then, when!

Looking forward to the pictures

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2022 08:40

No. Unless you want people to talk about you for all the wrong reasons. I'm frankly astonished that you'd even consider it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 11/02/2022 08:43

Also, it looks like the rag rugs that my gran used to make.

I'm all for people wearing what they love, but in this case I really, really think this would be a poor decision.

This. Definitely not floral or pattern if your tats are visible - a plain colour allows the dress and the tats to shine. Floral/pattern + tats is too jumbled visually and doesn't work as well.

Gabbiadini · 11/02/2022 08:59

I know you’ve gone ahead and ordered if but I just wanted to say I LOVE IT. It’s beautiful and I want one. I love the baby pink best for myself. But I can’t afford it and I’m not going to anyone’s wedding or party or anything.

k1233 · 11/02/2022 09:23

It looks much better than some of the suggested alternatives! As long as OP feels comfortable in the dress she'll look fab. Dressing to please others and feeling uncomfortable is really obvious.

Sparkletastic · 11/02/2022 09:32

Try the fluffy dresses on. I guarantee you'll hate them. They don't even look good on the stick thin models. Yes to the sexy draped VW dress.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 11/02/2022 09:34

I am glad you went for the floral one. You are going to look stunning. Needle and Thread dresses are so flattering.
My sister is about your size and has a similar one that she looks amazing in.

I hope you all have a great time at the wedding!

jamie83 · 11/02/2022 09:38

That would be banned if you were my Mother.
It looks like fancy dress for the Karaoke.

Have a look at Tadashi Shoji. They do plus size and it's less bridal.

I too looked at N&T for a step-mother of the bride dress and found a couple that got signed off by the bride in silver, but ultimately opted to a Tadashi dress that I felt fabulous in and I have since bought a couple more.

@Kenworthington
The original dress in red/ fuchsia would be fabulous for MOB.
I think the cream is too bridal.

I think the dress needs a lower neckline.

WillowKnicks · 11/02/2022 10:17

I think the floral one is FABULOUS!!! I wish I could get away with it!
If you love it, your son loves it, your DH loves it, who cares what anybody else thinks...as long as you feel amazing, that's all that matters!

shiningstar2 · 11/02/2022 10:21

Definitely not the cream one. Far too bridal even without a bride. I don't much like the floral one. If you really want to wear it I would go for the red. Very celebratory. To he honest though the style might make it seem as though you want a lot of the attention on you. 💐

shewillhaveherway · 11/02/2022 10:24

Well as you have decided to wear it it I hope you look fabulous (I’m sure you will) and that you have a wonderful day enjoying your son’s wedding.

Eycaluptus · 11/02/2022 10:29

I love it! Glad you ordered the floral one! Considering the dynamics of a gay wedding having no bride I think why not! You can be the female main character for the day! You sound totally bonkers in a completely awesome way and I wish my mum was as fun as you!

floofycroissant · 11/02/2022 10:30

I think no, even if your son is into it. It pulls focus and also will be so restricted and uncomfortable. You're going to have a long, really social and hopefully dance filled day! It'd be beautiful but miserable, and an MOTG outfit change is a bit extra.

I went to a wedding where the MOTB wore a lovely massive tulle maxi skirt with a delicate spaghetti strap sequin cami and a simple knit/coverup it was gorgeous. All in a soft grey, something similar could work. Bit like these:

gerispringer · 11/02/2022 10:38

It’s made of nylon and polyester so will feel sweaty and horrible and cause static. I would expect silk chiffon for that price. No doubt run up in some Chinese sweatshop. I speak as a dressmaker who has made many occasion outfits including bridal wear, cheap fabric will feel cheap and nasty, I would always use high end fabrics.

IggyIggyIggy · 11/02/2022 10:41

I love love LOVE needle and thread! The first one is my fave but I wouldn't wear to a wedding tbh. The second one MOST DEF!!!!!

doodleygirl · 11/02/2022 10:52

Love the dress, you will look fabulous, hope the wedding is awesome.

My best friend wore a similar OTT dress when her son married his wonderful husband, she looked bloody amazing and a great time was had by all.

So many mumsnetters have weird rules they follow when dressing for a wedding. I’m Jewish, we go all out, your dress would not be out of place.

Theblacksheepandme · 11/02/2022 10:55

OP I love your attitude and I think you'll look fab. It's funny how mean people can be, just because you don't want to wear the typical dresses worn at weddings. This thread showed me that a lot of people don't like anything outside the box. Crikey some people couldn't even get their head around Groom & Groom. How backwards are they? I'd love to know what shoes you are thinking of wearing?
