One of the many things I miss about early years Toast is only having two collections, AW & SS, with resort and festive capsules previewed, so I could see everything at once and plan. Which one item do I save for and buy full price; which wait for the sale; the archive sale next year; or eBay in a couple of years? Even having one release per season would be preferable to this dribbling in every month. It doesn't make me buy more, it makes me hold off buying, so I can be sure my limited resources are going to the right items.

I'm pretty much an ex-customer these days, but what do the rest of you think, does the continual influx of clothes work in encouraging you to buy more? Do you prefer there always being something new?

Countmeout · 22/02/2022 16:01

Yes yellowy ones might do. Well done @AFingerofFudge. Great sleuthing.

faustina · 22/02/2022 16:20

@AFingerofFudge - that is a nice jacket. I'm fed up with Uniqlo's silly returns process at the moment, so I'd have to try in an actual shop which means waiting til I'm next in London

@Stravaig - yes, it pisses me off no end that there's a drip drip of the new collection, but in this case I do wonder if it's unintentional and due to covid/brexit etc. No-one in their right mind would release the linen shorts and sleeveless dresses before the nice new Alixes, would they?

MrsCat1 · 22/02/2022 16:34

@Stravaig Completely agree. I much prefer being able to see a whole season of clothes at one time rather this incessant waiting for the odd item or two...

AFingerofFudge · 22/02/2022 17:33

Oh and (last thing!) I think the person I chatted to in Toast said the next collection launch was the 3rd March!

Countmeout · 22/02/2022 17:35

Agree @Stravaig. I have a couple of this in my basket but reluctant to buy in case something else appears I want more. Obviously I can’t have everything.

ScottishMouse · 22/02/2022 17:47

Completely agree on the drip feeding. I do like there to be new things more than a couple of times a year, but maybe 4-6 drops would be enough.
Well done on getting all that info @AFingerofFudge. Marking March 3rd in my diary!!

TempleofZooom · 22/02/2022 19:33

@AFingerofFudge

Oh and (last thing!) I think the person I chatted to in Toast said the next collection launch was the 3rd March!
There is a breakfast launch thing in some of the shops with the Spring launch date being beginning of March. Just looked and its down to one shop Confused Yet there are masses of mending dates.

Ive actually ordered something !
The Indigo denim pinafore dress, went for an 8 based on the reviews and the Garment dyed linen easy dress, again a small .
Will see what the sizing is like.
To the Pp who asked about purchasing habits, I give myself a monthly clothes allowance and dont tend to impulse buy.
I havent spent a penny of it since the sale in December, apart from the dresses,so hopeful that some nice things are on their way

Stravaig · 22/02/2022 21:17

That's pretty unanimous so far! Thank you everyone. I wondered if I was missing something obvious about modern shopping. Here's hoping Toast wanders by and takes the hint (and invites some of you to a photoshoot!

Laska2Meryls · 23/02/2022 09:02

I am pretty sure that the drop is down to supply issues. Sadly busts are only for glamour fashion it seems..
( I may have an issue here!)

TheChattyRat · 23/02/2022 12:32

I like the peacock dress on everyone - funny how it looks like a different dress on you all, though some of that is lighting. @couldhavegonethen how was the smaller size?

@Saurus72 think that is a good call on the check dress - it seemed a bit meh. I did like the peacock dress on you but think of all that money saved you can put towards something else Wink

I enjoyed the recent Toast Live video but wish they had showed more of the clothes on. I would like to see the chambray tie neck shirt on for example. There was a denim skirt one of the models was wearing that I liked - not on the website yet. I did miss seeing Paula the florist - I usually like her style.

Your comments @Laska2Meryls about body shapes made me think --- wouldn't it be great if there was a Mumsnet Toast Live!

I'm tempted to order something just for the bandana - it looks lovely.

couldhavegonethen · 23/02/2022 13:24

@TheChattyRat..it’s a much better fit on me thanks. It doesn’t really look much different on but trying the xs on then s I can feel the difference. Less material all round I’d say. I shall keep the xs.

ScottishMouse · 23/02/2022 16:42

I’ve just had a bit of a spree on Depop and Vinted, having never used either before.
I’ve bought a Toast jumpsuit, a pair of Toast wool cotton trousers (both of which I previously owned and sold on in a smaller size so hopefully should be ok), and three Cos tshirts for layering on these cold days (again ones I have owned previously so know the styles).
All for a total of less than £100.
All are pre-worn, and I have had mixed success with buying pre-worn on eBay in terms of condition, so fingers crossed.

Countmeout · 23/02/2022 17:08

Is it this skirt @TheChattyRat? I think it was added a few days ago. Seems reasonable (😬) too.

faustina · 23/02/2022 17:33

I think I saw the denim skirt too..

My Gabis arrived (in loden) and they've gone straight back because they're miles bigger than my others (and quite a lot darker than on the screen). I wish they'd hurry up with their Alixes!

Also, I've decided to keep the sesame novestas. Was very tempted to keep both but I'm trying to be sensible and also the other colour were slightly faulty and I just couldn't be arsed to do another order. If they become my footwear of choice I might revisit later on

faustina · 23/02/2022 17:33

Fingers crossed on your behalf Scottish!

Countmeout · 23/02/2022 17:54

Sorry forgot to link skirt @TheChattyRat.

Interesting about the size of the Gabis @faustina. I hope they haven’t changed the Alix.

faustina · 23/02/2022 18:01

@Countmeout - the indigo twill alixes were much bigger too, but that could be down to the fabric?

my jeans assure me it's not me getting any smaller!

Stoic123 · 23/02/2022 18:03

Received the Kindred bandana today with my order (some bedding) and it is rather lovely.

From current season, I've bought the Crinkle Dress (wearing today), Bark Canvas Coat (not on list but tried on and loved), Fine Stripe Linen Shirt (Blue), Fine Stripe Pinafore (green) and Space Check trousers.

Nothing else appeals at full price except maybe some plimsolls. Blown the budget with the coat anyway.

ilovecherries · 23/02/2022 18:29

That sounds a good haul, ScottishMouse, hopefully all in nice condition.

I ordered the chambray tie neck blouse as a reward for being very brave on Saturday when I had a large basal cell carcinoma removed from my face, with a reconstruction and skin graft. Currently can't leave the house without scaring small children but getting stitches out this Saturday and will hopefully look better then. Meanwhile, I love the shirt, and popped it on with wide leg jersey trousers from M&S and rather taken with myself (from neck down!). Also bought the novesta plimsolls in navy with no expectation these would be wearable but they have a surprising amount of arch support so hope they might work. If I can tolerate them, I will probably buy in a lighter colour way as well. I also got my free bandana which will go nicely with my ginger cords (I will clearly wear another item in-between the bandana and the cords!)

I do have the olden Gabis from a couple of yeas back faustina and even then they wear a MUCH bigger cut than the black ones. I assumed it was a one-off quality control issue, but it sounds as if they are cut from a different pattern,

Countmeout · 23/02/2022 18:29

Yes @faustina. I kept my indigo Alix as I loved the material. I do feel they’re a bit big but the 6 was sold out. I’m going to order a couple of sizes when the new ones appear just in case, that’s the thing about having to order online, it’s a pain.

Gonegrey31 · 23/02/2022 18:39

Oh ilovecherries that’s an ordeal for you , sending healing vibes your way . Glad you have bought that lovely shirt .
I’ve just received the Cotton Oxford easy shirt in blue and I really like it , sized down one size and it is perfect . Great quality, tempted to get it in white but sitting on my hands for now .

faustina · 23/02/2022 18:49

@ilovecherries - oh no! I hope you heal soon, and as I remember you saying it was endlessly delayed, at least it's done now

The novesta are great aren't they? The arch support, and they feel very sturdy without being too heavy as well

I've bought four pairs of Gabi now and Ebayed two (faded black because I didn't seem to wear them, and navy cord because ditto - they just didn't seem to be as nice on me). I bought the Jute ones just before the pandemic and I wear them all the time - they fit me like a glove!

Countmeout · 23/02/2022 19:00

Hope you feel better soon @ilovecherries. You deserve a reward.

Intended to say did anyone watch the video about repairs, but also about looking after knitwear ? I de balled my Mira yesterday but I have to say I never had had so much balling bother with any other knitwear. It seems to ball if you just look at it.

ScottishMouse · 23/02/2022 19:52

I find the inconsistencies in sizing so frustrating. Not just from one style to the next, but even in the same style depending on fabric or even colour! I have the indigo Alix from the first time around (maybe 4/5 years ago) and the 6 is bigger on the waist than the 8 I have in the linen ones. I actually wish they were all the same as the indigo ones as they fit me perfectly. But I think I said on here recently that the new check ones this season were far too small in a 6 and far too big in an 8. Why????
Same with Gabis. The twill and the cord fit differently, and I am between sizes in the cord version, which is annoying as I would love them for winter.
My current annoyance is the new gingham shirt with the big collar. I tried it in store and loved it, but decided to mull it over. Went back to buy it and they didn’t have my size. So ordered online and the collar sat weirdly. So returned and re-ordered, and the one that arrived today also doesn’t sit right, although in a completely different way. I can be quite pernickety, but I think at the prices Toast charge, I should be. I think I am going to have to send this one back too and just give up on it. Maybe it wasn’t meant to be.
