What do the cool mums wear?

Following on from the Mum Boot of Trainers thread, I am wondering, what do the cool mums wear? Are there any brands or items of clothing that are considered 'cool' for school run mums?

This is style and beauty, it’s a specific place to talk about clothes, so when the OP is talking about cool, she means clothes not character. Neither is she talking about judging anyone.

If you aren’t interested in fashion, that’s cool (!) but you might be better avoiding this section.

The coolest mum I know wear something a bit similar to the 'dark academic' look. Long shapeless but artfully draped dresses, cable knits, lace up boots, big scarves and long woollen coats. I know for a fact she spends ££££ on her clothes but she always looks like she hasn't really tried.

I don’t think this topic has to be necessarily judgy though! It’s just people’s observations on what they think is cool. What we don’t need are the posts explaining how gym clothes get sniggered at or sunglasses in winter are like sooo stupid.

(But also, everyone judges, and if you really wouldn’t bat an eyelid at pyjamas/dressing gowns in public then you’re a better person than me!)

Ripped mom jeans , a body , flannel and Air Force 1’s . Cropped puffa jacket if really cold.

I think it depends what you’re doing after school run. If I’m going to work I’ll be in a nice Hobbs work dress; if I’m working from home it’ll be jeans and a jumper. My dc are year 6 so by this stage I pay no attention to parents and barely look at them.

@Luredbyapomegranate I wore joggers a lot this year because I don't really like the gym leggings look. For the new year I want some cropped boot cut jeans & will dig out my western style boots. I bought a mac/trench in the NAP sale & a short quilted jacket from Mango, plus the Zara rubber boots. I want some new dresses but not seen any I like yet.

Last time I looked it was either sparkly/pleated floaty maxi/midi skirt with slogan knit and white trainers or biker boots.

OR gym leggings/tapered joggers with over-sized hoody, puffa and sunnies.

…But I’ll admit I don’t look that often!

I can’t seem to get out of my skinnies, chelseas, fairisle and wax jacket phase. I love cosy winter and I dread warmer weather.

I work so whatever I wear to work is what I wear. I'm lucky to be able to be casual.

I've nothing to add but I'm laughing as I remember my husband telling me about the cool sexy dad at the kids soft play every week.

All the other dads including my husband were typical of our area, a bit chubby, scruffy, beards, jeans, docs and checked shirt.

This guy had ripped six pack, tatts, glossy man bun and wore those very deep v neck t shirt so we enjoying laughing about the contrast

Go into Zara.

Roll around in something puffy with something stripy underneath. Stop into HM for some chunky boots/wellies.

Put on some sunglasses that make you look like a 1970’s spy. Sorted.

I think the things I’ve heard tend to be worn by older/middle class women. I live in a nice village where there’s a fair bit of money about but still don’t see anyone wearing Veja trainers or cross body bags, all sounds a bit middle aged to me.

I don’t really know what you mean by cool? Do people use the word cool anymore? I think you either give off that vibe or you don’t, it’s not just about the clothes.

I’d say cool people wear what they like and don’t give a shit what other people are wearing . Wear things that suit you and make you feel good .

Why so many posters sneering at this thread? I love clothes and enjoy reading these threads in S&B. I don't go onto threads in the gardening, crochet, cycling sections and sneer at them.

I think the cross body is definitely a practicality thing. You need 2 hands when chasing 2 (or more!) little people and carrying all their shit stuff.

I have the palest grey/green eyes. I’d never wear sunglasses in the winter. I’m not Madonna.

Right now I’m wearing fluffy socks, a fleece lined velvet oversized hoodie, green tartan pj bottoms. And I’ve not brushed my hair yet either.

@IggysPop My friend has a pair of the high-tops and loves them. I tried on the velvet ones and they felt good enough for running around the shop. I def prefer them to Golden Goose.

@PegasusReturns I now want a pair of JW Anderson mules . The chain ones are gorgeous. Wish I could pull off the leather culottes, but I'm such a short-arse. I have a couple of pairs of the wide-legged cropped jeans though and I LOVE them.
