What do the cool mums wear?

Following on from the Mum Boot of Trainers thread, I am wondering, what do the cool mums wear? Are there any brands or items of clothing that are considered 'cool' for school run mums?

Much easier to aim for chic or stylish then cool.

AuntieDolly · 30/12/2021 11:51

Who do you think is coolest - Amanda or Liz?

crazyjinglist · 30/12/2021 11:51

There is nothing wrong with wanting to look cool. Asking about what stylish women currently wear is a perfectly reasonable and normal way to try and look more stylish yourself.

Criticising women for taking an interest in fashion and in their appearance is no less unpleasant than criticising them for not putting effort into their appearance. And snide, competitive not caring about your appearance is just another form of virtue-signalling.

Anyway, following with interest, OP. I fancy looking a bit cooler Grin.

I wear Lucy and Yak dungarees when I'm not at work. But I'm an infant school teacher so that's allowed 😀

Totally agree with this!

So what tops are cool at the moment? I need to replace all my ancient Bretons, which I am assuming are no longer cool anyway.

I agree that wanting to look cool is normal, just that it's not achievable for most & I don't think you can become it later on in life if that makes sense

Looking stylish is much more attainable.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 11:59

I wouldn't say there is one particular top style in fashion but 90s grunge is on trend so lots of hoodies & sweats, graphic t-shirt's, oversized shirts. boots

Ohshitiveturnedintomymother · 30/12/2021 11:59

Whatever they are going to work in? Or they want to spend the day wearing?

I can’t get my head around this concept of dressing for the school run. It was the same with the school run dresses, who changes for drop off/pick up? Just wear your clothes!

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 11:59

I have some Isabel Marant jumpers & hoodies but they aren't cheap

Alayalaya · 30/12/2021 12:00

Surely you just wear whatever you’ve had on for work that day? Do people get changed into clean outfits for the five minutes you spend standing at the school gate?

What?! Bretons no longer cool?! 😩😩🙈🤣
Jacaranda75 · 30/12/2021 12:04

@idiotmagnet I'm not sure, I'm waiting for someone cooler than me to tell me Grin !

Round our way it's either the Sweaty Betty look - patterned leggings and gilet - or Hush for the "relaxed glamour look". And they all own a pair of pristine white leather look trainers and a big leopard print scarf.

DigitalGhost · 30/12/2021 12:08

Jeans, converse, over sized shirts/hoodies.
Basically the same thing I was wearing ten years ago.
Forever cool GrinGrin

TricolourCat · 30/12/2021 12:08

Vejas look great but they are uncomfortable on my foot as feel hard around the heel and the upper leather is ridiculously high. I've no idea how they are so popular, I can't buy anything that is uncomfortable these days no matter how cool they look.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 12:09

I think stripes are on the way back in again! But coloured ones

Confused Not all mothers work. Some work part time. Some wfh.

Hellolittlestar · 30/12/2021 12:12

@BreakfastOfWaffles
Please don’t tell me that wearing Hush is frowned upon?. I’ve only recently discovered them and they actually make clothes that I love wearing.

Bluesheep8 · 30/12/2021 12:13

Dungarees.

slipperyeel · 30/12/2021 12:15

Why on S&B do posters line up to criticise someone asking a question about style.
Huff.
Agree with the sweaty Betty leggings, puffer coat and Vejas.
Last summer it was midi dress plus trainers, I’m seeing more new balance now in south London.
Cropped wide leg trousers and mohair jumpers also around.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 12:17

Are we talking about style/in fashion or looking cool? I don't think they are the same.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 12:18

Yes New Balance are the more on brand trainer at the moment.

Each to their own, but this does not sound cool imo, but more instamum/try hard. Same with those suggesting vejas, agreee with pp who mentioned them being pedestrian. Again, nothing wrong with wearing what you want, as “cool” is very subjective anyway. This isn’t it in my opinion!
ItsAlwaysThere · 30/12/2021 12:22

Something I love about the school run is people rocking up looking like they've just got up, or had a bad night sleep with the baby.

It's really nice because it isn't a fashion parade and they can express how they really feel. I think that's a sign of feeling comfortable in your environment.

Line drawn at dressing gowns though, I've never seen that though to be honest.
