What do the cool mums wear?

Following on from the Mum Boot of Trainers thread, I am wondering, what do the cool mums wear? Are there any brands or items of clothing that are considered 'cool' for school run mums?

Most of the stuff suggested here isn't so much "cool mums" as the middle class mums.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 17:18

@Maireas I think skinny jeans are still acceptable but fashion wise they are quite dated. It's straight legs, boyfriend & wide flares.

chaosrabbitland · 30/12/2021 17:26

@Jacaranda75

The coolest mums are the ones that wear the hell they like, discard the latest fads and couldn't care less about others approval.

What, you mean like the mums wearing their pyjamas and dressing gowns on the school run, because clearly they couldn't care less Hmm.

yes exactly because they are just as cool as some posh mummy all done up to the nines in designer gear , cool is a state of mind , its how you feel and carry yourself , not just what you wear , iv turned up at the school looking like a thrown together tramp when its been a tough morning , but im still cool , people that are cool , look cool and yes its usually the people that couldnt care less that are the coolest iv found , being cool is a state of mind ,not just what you are wearing

Skinnies are out as 'on trend' denim but remain in plentiful supply and use due to being a wardrobe staple as opposed to simply a passing trend. I still wear them as the suit me. I also can't bare cold ankles at this time of year and the other styles only really work with my boots if folded up

Thank you! I've noticed young women wearing very high waisted stone wash.

LadyRoughDiamond · 30/12/2021 17:26

Out our way skinnies are definitely over for the cooler Mums. It’s more boyfriend jeans or sort of tapered cords/trousers, boots or trainers (Vegas or New Balance) and a parka.
There’s also the activewear brigade (Sweaty Betty leggings, puffa, accessorise with Range Rover keys 😂).

liveforsummer · 30/12/2021 17:29

Also no one drives a Range Rover round here, you'd never get it parked and when you did the streets can be so narrow it would almost definitely receive a good scratch within hours

allfurcoatnoknickers · 30/12/2021 17:31

@seekinglondonlife This kind of thing. A bit vintage, chunky knits, high waisted cardigans, loafers, brogues, stompy boots.

KurtWildesChristmasNamechange · 30/12/2021 17:31

I'd rather go out naked than wear boyfriend jeans/baggy ankle skimmers with the turn-up. II'll stick to my skinnies.

Thepineapplemystery · 30/12/2021 17:33

@lollipoprainbow

What's wrong with just being and looking like a mum why does everything have to be 'cool'.
Because I feel like 'mum' is my whole identity. And I hate it.
seekinglondonlife · 30/12/2021 17:33

@allfurcoatnoknickers thanks, but I don't remember anyone doing late nights in the library dressed like that 😂

Same 🤣, I don’t care what others are wearing, I think boyfriend jeans look awful unless your are 16 and not overweight. I like skinnies, I have nice legs and want to show them off, being short means I look awful in a baggy fit jean/mom jeans.
SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 30/12/2021 17:35

I am so far from cool that cool is just a dot on the horizon, but I honestly think that the cool mums wear whatever they want, but it looks cool because they are cool. It comes from attitude and confidence, rather than clothes.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 17:38

Some of the slim cut jeans are very similar to skinny's.

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 30/12/2021 17:43

I wonder if bootcut jeans and big wide belts worn on the hips will make a comeback Grin I used to love that look in the early noughties and it was very flattering on an hourglass with not flat tummy.

snapsieplopp · 30/12/2021 17:45

I think skinnies have stuck around because they are easy to pair with chunky boots & trainers.

I think they are making an attempt. Dd showed some interest but we live in Scotland and I wanted her a lot the weight once they've sucked up half a pavements worth of rain and she decided against 😆

Yes same here @Lovemusic33

coodawoodashooda · 30/12/2021 18:10

@liveforsummer

That seems harsh

Can you think of another reason for such an unusual response for this particular topic board?

Because people genuinely don't know. Sincerely don't understand why certain boots or trainers are such a crime. I'm absolutely desperate to pay off my mortgage. Ages away yet but I'd far rather hace shit trainers and a 'cool' retirement than impress a stranger for half a minute.

I agree with you on that, tbh I don't care if I am 'cool' or not in someone else's eyes, there is more to life (for me). I appreciate some folk like to feel 'trendy' or 'cool', and that's up to them I suppose, as long as we are happy in our own skin too.
HideRanger · 30/12/2021 18:28

Good hair - thick, shiny, worn without discernible product or excessive attention.

Interesting coat, shoes and jewellery. Within this equation, wear what you like.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/12/2021 18:38

@ILoveHuskies
IMHO an adult woman in this get up would look silly and try hard
I think you are imaging a different age of mum . If you are young , slim and attractive it’s a pretty regular cool mum look.

MyDcAreMarvel · 30/12/2021 18:40

@Benjispruce5 this a flannel. What are you imaging??

BikeMyCycle · 30/12/2021 18:45

@Pinkandpink

I just wear my work’s hoodie and jeans lol I don’t think twice about it.
Same, my work hoodie should be sold on the open market, it’s so nice! Although I work in HR for ‘very cool company’ and don’t do any of the actual cool stuff 😂. I slum it and wear it with leggings where you can probably see my bum. But then I’m pregnant and I don’t care.

My DDs bestie’s Mum is way cooler than me though, she’s a dancer and just knows style. I think I make her look good so that’s why she talks to me haha.

Iamkmackered1979 · 30/12/2021 18:51

I like looking round the school playground everyone is so individual some just in comfy dog walking type gear, then those in gym gear, work wear etc I don’t think I see many really cool mums I’m like a heap generally till I get home walk dog shower and make myself look human by time I pick kids up. Work days I’m in uniform but don’t pick kids up those days but enjoy seeing what others wear, there was a couple in Tesco earlier in matching cream ensembles was a bit matchy for me but they seemed happy 😃
