What do we need for autumn/ winter?

Bored of summer now. Want to start on my autumn winter wardrobe.
What style jeans? Skinnies are out. Will mom jeans work with boots? What style boots?
A nice trench maybe?
I'm on the hunt for a lovely long hooded cardigan in maybe cashmere too. Want to add to my cashmere sweater collection too.
Anyone anything else to add?

@lindyloo57 I have always found them true to size and returns very easy with no need for a printer. Having said that, I haven’t ordered from them for a year or so and it may have changed, but will report back once my parcel arrives.

BangingOn · 09/08/2021 17:33

@LexCake I love those jeans and I really wish that style suited me. I order and return a pair of barrel legs every few months, trying to kid myself that my body shape might have magically changed Grin.

lindyloo57 · 09/08/2021 17:43

M& S sell some finery as do john lewis, but the dress is still full price at m&s but its on sale price on the finery site.

MunsteadWood · 09/08/2021 18:25

I love those jeans too @BangingOn

I ordered a pair recently along with a whole load of other styles to try and really liked the look of them but they just felt enormous! I ended up keeping another couple of pairs so didn't try the smaller size but am planning to order whenever they next release a 20% off code.

I'm excited about autumn clothes too. I really need some new jumpers after most of mine have been either trashed by mucky small children or shrunk in the wash (by me...) Any suggestions for lovely quality knitwear that isn't hand wash only..?

KillingMeDeftly · 09/08/2021 18:52

Does anyone else find that the expectations and the reality of autumn/winter dressing are very different things? I like to think I'll be all cosy in front of a log fire and dressed in cashmere like Cameron Diaz in The Holiday but instead I end up in freezing rain with wet jeans and inadequate trainers!

LexCake · 09/08/2021 19:07

@BangingOn interesting. I’ve got no idea if I can carry off the barrel leg. The Whistles ones are a bit more than I usually pay but I love the photos and all the colours they come in. Might have to do a trip to the actual shops for some trying on.

bendmeoverbackwards · 09/08/2021 19:21

I’ve tried the Whistles barrel leg jeans but they looked too wide and ridiculous on me. You might have better luck @LexCake

Slothkin · 09/08/2021 19:23

@DazzlePaintedBattlePants my Venice Beach jeans arrived today and I love them but they’re an extremely odd cut for a ‘boyfriend’ jean - on me they’re a straight with high waist. I went for quite a small waist for my size (34, size 18) but the crotch would be halfway to my knees if I’d gone true-to-size!

stripedbananas · 09/08/2021 20:11

I anticipate that I'll probably be wearing my coated jeans and leather look leggings a lot especially on a rainy day. I'm looking forward to wearing knee length boots again.

I prefer to layer up in the autumn and winter but have enough clothes at the moment so haven't been looking at anything new yet.

I do have a lovely pair of wide black trousers it's been too warm to wear so there'll be part of my Autumn wardrobe too.

stripedbananas · 09/08/2021 20:15

My coated jeans are skinny which are always an easier shape for the winter when it comes to footwear and weather.

BangingOn · 10/08/2021 18:17

@lindyloo57 my Finery dress arrived today and it’s a keeper. You need to wear a camisole or similar underneath it, but it’s soft, stretchy and very flattering.

You do need a printer for returns though, unless they could post you a label instead.

lindyloo57 · 10/08/2021 18:41

Banging, did you get your normal size, I might ring to see if they'll send a return label before I order. It is on m&s web site but at full price🤨😬

GarethBalesManBun · 10/08/2021 19:04

This made me laugh! Grin.

I do usually sack off any attempt at a smart winter coat by December, and end up in a great big puffa or parka that isn’t stylish but is bloody warm!

GarethBalesManBun · 10/08/2021 19:05

I meant to quote you @KillingMeDeftly

BangingOn · 10/08/2021 19:40

@lindyloo57 I’ve lost weight recently so ordered both my old size and the size I hoped I’d be and the smaller size fit well. It’s very stretchy so I think you could size up or down quite flexibly.

PrincessNutNuts · 10/08/2021 21:22

I'd love a pair of wide leg jeans with a Pyjama style hem like I saw on Making The Cut.

But I need a proper waterproof coat, new boots and new wellies.

BangingOn · 11/08/2021 21:23

The Other Stories nun dress has arrived and it’s a keeper. It really works with my hourglass shape, unlike many dress styles in the shops at the moment.

AnnieSnap · 12/08/2021 00:16

That’s great @BangingOn Mine arrived today. I’ll try it on tomorrow and feedback 🙂

BangingOn · 12/08/2021 08:24

@AnnieSnap please do report back, I really hope you like it.

lindyloo57 · 14/08/2021 16:59

@BangingOn I just caved and ordered the dress from m&s, my thoughts are if it fits send it back free returns to marks and order it from finery if there's any left.

coodawoodashooda · 14/08/2021 17:04

Are Flying London shoes any good?

BangingOn · 14/08/2021 17:21

@lindyloo57 I like your thinking!

AnnieSnap · 14/08/2021 19:18

@BangingOn I can definitely see why you call it the “nun dress”. All I need is Brogues (also on trend) and some long, chunky rosary beads and I could pull of the full look 😂🤣. That said, the cut is very flattering on me and I love it. I’ll need to add a spot of colour though, if only in jewellery. I did find I needed the 18, not the 16, due to the way it fit on shoulders and arms. Which size did you settle on?

This is the dress concerned for anyone wondering.

BangingOn · 14/08/2021 20:29

@AnnieSnap I’m glad you love it, I found it really flattering too. I kept the 18 as the 16 was tight on my waist, but I’m small busted for my frame so found the top part quite roomy.

I really don’t suit brogues and my heels will have to be prised from my cold, dead hands so I’m hoping that will swerve the ecclesiastical vibe Grin

AnnieSnap · 14/08/2021 21:04

@BangingOn 😂🤣
