What do we need for autumn/ winter?

Bored of summer now. Want to start on my autumn winter wardrobe.
What style jeans? Skinnies are out. Will mom jeans work with boots? What style boots?
A nice trench maybe?
I'm on the hunt for a lovely long hooded cardigan in maybe cashmere too. Want to add to my cashmere sweater collection too.
Anyone anything else to add?

@Okaygreatthanks I splurged on a thin waterproof parka because I finally realised it’s a lot easier for me to build layers up which can be popped in a bag. I absolutely love it!

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 19:12

@Slothkin sounds lovely, what brand was it?

The weather is such here that from Oct to March it’s possible to be buried under a mammoth coat even WITH the layers underneath.

pantsdants · 02/08/2021 19:23

I want some new flat ankle boots, buckle or lace to wear with slim jeans & big baggy jumpers.

Would like a new black wool coat & maybe a check coat.

LazyDoll · 02/08/2021 19:43

I got these last Autumn/Winter and loved them so much I had to get them in black too Grin www.drmartens.com/uk/en_gb/p/womens-boots-orleans-2976-leonore
Now I’m on the look out for high tops for cooler weather for after the flip flops but before the DMs!

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 20:51

lazydoll oh my god I had those exact ones pinned all last year but wasn’t sure how great they were in real life… are they really toasty?

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 20:52

Oh, and what is the sizing like and what did you find yourself wearing them with?

They are GORGEOUS.

Kanaloa · 02/08/2021 20:54

I think mom jeans are out too, is it straight legged 90s style jeans now? I can’t keep up and will almost certainly be in skinny jeans still! They’re just so comfy in the winter, they don’t drag along the ground and get wet or constantly come untucked.

I would love a chunky sort of cardigan, with buttons but not too long or too short. I’ve been looking for one all last year but can’t find the perfect thing.

cherrypiepie · 02/08/2021 21:15

@Okaygreatthanks @Slothkin

Can I have some coat inspiration please. What do you buy!?

I'm thinking a thinksh one and a down gilet or a rab deep cover Parker which I have wanted a few years no but not sure its dated?

Slothkin · 02/08/2021 21:18

@Okaygreatthanks this one: bath.oska.com/en/products/detail/coat-indye-padded-cotton-60210710014/ - I think it would be too lightweight for your needs (I hate the constantly going between temps from outside to trains tubes cinemas theatres restaurants etc) but this seems a nice lightweight one easier enough to pop beneath a seat

brokenbiscuitsx · 02/08/2021 21:19

I’ve been thinking this too!

I keep feeling like ankle boots and skinnies are feeling a bit dated 😞 do we think flat knee highs and skinnies might make a come back? (I really want a nice suede pair!)

Slothkin · 02/08/2021 21:24

Oh and @cherrypiepie I would always buy a gilet from somewhere with expertise like Rohan

pantsdants · 02/08/2021 21:31

@brokenbiscuitsx lots of longer boots on the catwalk but paired with skirts

pantsdants · 02/08/2021 21:31

that's not to say you can't wear them with jeans

brokenbiscuitsx · 02/08/2021 21:40

My list:

Fairisle or fisherman type chunky jumper
Suede black knee high boots (probably not trendy but want some)
A military type jacket
A bright colourful jumper
Corduroy trousers

brokenbiscuitsx · 02/08/2021 21:41
@brokenbiscuitsx lots of longer boots on the catwalk but paired with skirts
Ahh thank you, was thinking about wearing with midis

pantsdants · 02/08/2021 22:01

with tights?

Okaygreatthanks · 02/08/2021 22:03

I splurged on two pairs of Frye knee highs (tan and black) last year and will be wearing them with midis.

Capricornandproud · 02/08/2021 22:09

Wool dressed and tights with ankle boots for me and I’m sticking with skinnies!

Supersimkin2 · 02/08/2021 22:40

Zara do superb thin but thermal waterproof jackets and quilty parkas. They could withstand the Arctic and are very light/easy to wear. The knee length ones look suitably modern and smart.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 02/08/2021 22:47

Definitely a long hooded cardigan. Maybe two. Grey and navy.

TheRealKateAdie · 02/08/2021 22:54

I want a new coat. - something long-ish, warm, soft and cocoon-like but in a luxurious fabric. No idea what I’m looking for, really, but I will find it! Grin.

Also want tall boots in black and brown - maybe a riding boot style. I’m sick of ankle boots.

I’m sticking to skinny and slim jeans. I can’t stand flares or ‘mom’ jeans and I like fitted bottoms in the winter to keep the warmth in.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/08/2021 23:41

I need to find out what my situation is going to be in terms of being in work, but I am looking forward to wearing leather mini skirts (with 100 denier tights and DM boots) and wide-leg cropped wool trousers from Cos. I am excited to get my faux fur coats out too. Jeans-wise I only have tapered or straight legs - I wear knee high socks underneath and DM monkey boots or trainers so no chilly ankles.

I have just bought a big puffy long duvet coat because they were all sold out by the time I realised I wanted one last year. The one new thing I know I really want is a cashmere crew neck jumper in charcoal grey. I already have loads of lovely knitwear and am looking forward to un-vacuum-packing it!

notscarletbutgold · 03/08/2021 06:16

@BikeRunSki

For cashmere, try The Nearly New Cashmere Company. They “restore” used cashmere pieces, so styles, colours, sizes etc are one offs, but prices are great if you find something you like.
Thanks so much for this. I'm trying to only buy 2nd hand this year as have too much stuff already, but have been dreaming of a cashmere sweater and just found one on here. Had never heard of them but love the ethos (and prices!)
Okaygreatthanks · 03/08/2021 07:11

judy I am longing to get my fake fur coat out. Your clothes sound fab. I weirdly got the nicest wide leg trousers I’ve ever owned from M&S last year, if the cos ones don’t work out!

Passthecake30 · 03/08/2021 07:18

I’ll be wfh for all but 1 day a month for the foreseeable. Just made an expensive so need to build up my savings. I do need a new raincoat as mine is letting in the water around my neck. I’ve just brought some slim jeans from next rather skinny.
