For those who are taking a peek and wondering what this all about, we mostly discuss a bit of advanced skincare here with a perspective of seeking out the right ingredients (rather than the latest new shiny product and all its empty promises) for our particular skin needs. Distinguishing the acid toners from the actives whilst avoiding the truly unimpressive and harmful ingredients with a hope to achieve a bit of anti-ageing, alleviate irritation and sensitivities with some idle chat in between. Newcomers are always welcome but please note the following:

Questions and asking for help on this thread is encouraged, however, we can’t give you a specific routine to follow and hope it works out for the best. There are no overnight miracles in skincare whether it be in the form of products or techniques. It’s about perseverance, understanding your skin, assessing its needs and responding to that in a diligent manner.

These threads were created to help those who want to learn for themselves. We’re a group of interested and invested skincare nuts happy to offer tea and sympathy and dole out advice. Everyone’s journey with skincare is different, what is universal and binds us is that through actually learning about the different active ingredients it helps us get to know our skin and help us adapt as it will change many times throughout our lives - with seasons, hormonal changes, ageing, genetics etc. It's in everyone's best interests to get to know their skin and to keep reviewing those changes with the confidence that comes from the gathered knowledge here. We really encourage you to spend the time reading through previous threads and linked info sheets that the many contributors have taken the trouble to share.

By no means are we experts, we're only a bunch of amateurs that can only respond by suggesting what we would do in your place, for any severe conditions please seek out professional help.

Ahem, and finally a little note on spending. I'm well aware these threads cause many to reach for their wallets and spend with wild abandon. There can sometimes be a bit of a frenzy surrounding the excitement around a newly discovered product or on the back of great improvements when someone reports back. This is all great, it doesn't however, mean everything that's a sudden miracle for one will be it for you. Usually, it's a light bulb moment for connecting the right skincare ingredient with an individual experiencing a specific problem. Take your time to mull over decisions and question whether it's right for you too. Skincare is highly individual, it's a slow game that should cost mostly in patience, input, education, and perseverance. Please don't make it cost you financially needlessly.

I am very slowly working on consolidating the gathered information from previous threads into easier to read formats but it’s slow going. I would suggest reading thread 1 and at the very least the following info sheets (provided they apply to you):

Hi I’m hoping someone can help.

I’ve got congested skin according to my facial person. I’ve got no acne or spots but I know what she means.

I was using skin and me and expecting a purge but it just seems to be purging milia, I’ve got loads since I started using it so I’ve decided to stop.

Has anyone got any idea of what I can use as skincare to get rid of the congestion, bonus points if it gets rid of pigmentation too.
I’m going to get the milia sorted out by electrolysis so hoping that works.

I’ve always thought I had fairly normal skin so I am now completely confused about what skincare I should use. Budget not really an issue, I’m prepared to try anything!

Thanks

botemp · 15/07/2021 11:30

Hi Gerry, do you have "rhino hide type skin", as in very resilient, miracle products are always just meh despite being experienced where others describe it as really intense? Most issues happening under the skin but otherwise not that many issues?

OP posts:
ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 15/07/2021 12:07

botemp thanks for replying.

I think I must have rhino skin, I was expecting redness and flaking with the skin and me stuff but I just felt a bit tender.
I’m using Biologique Recherce toner the PW400 I think and it barely does anything.

I’m just not sure what to use. I seem to have so many products and my skin just seems to be getting worse, or at least no different.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 15/07/2021 23:17

Can I use Alpha H and then Sunday Riely UFO together? And Ive ordered a Paulas Choice and some Medik8 products. How should I use them, can I use them all together and should I use them every night or alternate?

I HATE new skincare routines!

botemp · 16/07/2021 08:50

That's a lot of products and tbh if tretinoin and P50 don't make any difference it's probably not worth investing in other 'miracle' products. They're the strongest available out there, it would probably make more sense to see a cosmetic dermatologist for a series of chemical peels or some other form of resurfacing.

P50 full strength might make a difference but the only other product I'd consider would be Urea 5% urea facial cream as your moisturiser. It's very gently exfoliating but it can be very good for just sloughing off gradually tougher skin. Milia responds well to Urea too but that's at much higher concentrations.

Me again Bo - can I have your opinion please?

I used my Skin & me again last night and I'm liking the look of my skin again this morning. I went from using no treatment to the skin & me every night. Do you think if I just do it a couple of nights a week and build up from there it would be better and there would be less milia purging?

Also, if I use the skin & me on just a couple of nights, could I use the P50 on the others?

Thanks :)

NinnyNewName · 19/07/2021 12:58

Has anyone tried Tropic Sun Day SPF?

Someone gave me a sample size (15ml) and I've used it for the last 3 days. I really like it.

botemp · 19/07/2021 13:12

Tropic is an MLM, isn't it? I wouldn't buy it on that basis, personally.

Gerry, yes you could but I'd advice most people not to go in full steam with both. Build up the Tret again and then add in P50. I can't comment on the millia and tret purge but you do sound a better candidate for the fast and brutal introduction phase as opposed to the slow and steady variety.

NinnyNewName · 19/07/2021 14:06

Yes I think it is Bo. I think it was started by a contestent on The Apprentice. I remember watching that season several years ago. She used to make the products herself and sell them on a market stall, if memory serves me correctly.

I would normally avoid too for the same reason and this has really suprised me so now I'm in a quandary re principles and a good SPF.

ThankYouVeryMuchGerry · 19/07/2021 15:07

Thanks Bo 😁

SallieSallow · 23/07/2021 12:39

Hi all 👋

Hope everyone is well and enjoying (or surviving) the heatwave. I’m happily back on frezyderm as my summer SPF but will need to hunt down a more moisturising one for winter.

Just wondering how everyone is getting on with their Bears? I’ve been using mine for a few months now and not noticed any difference but I did have fillers and Botox at the end of last year, so it may be that the Bear is prolonging the effects as I’ve not noticed any changes for the worse either.

I need to get a new serum to use with it as I’m nearly out of Vichy 89, is this the one that you use Bo

botemp · 23/07/2021 12:44

Yes, that's the one I use Sally.

I really like the level of moisturisation the Evy technology foam sunscreen gives but it's probably an odd choice for winter. Is the Bioderma cicabio spf no longer good for you in winter?

OP posts:
SallieSallow · 23/07/2021 18:00

Thanks Bo and I’d forgotten all about the bioderma one Shock after abandoning it for the now pretty useless Purito, yes I did like that and will go back to it - thank you for the reminder Smile

VillageFete · 25/07/2021 08:46

It’s been a minute since i’ve managed to get on this thread, but @botemp This is the other side of the packaging from Bareface. Do we think it’s legit?

Yes, that looks like it's supposed to (if a little beat up by the postal system).

OP posts:
SophieLion · 28/07/2021 10:05

Hi Sallie, I noticed quite a lot of changes at the start with the bear but less now. I'm not sure if it has made my face a bit thinner - I have high cheekbones and perhaps they are more sculpted now (which was not an aim of mine when I got the bear) and so maybe underneath the cheekbone looks more hollow and so overall I look thinner. If that makes sense.....

I've been doing an extended routine most days but I'm sure I can drop to 3 times a week now - just find it relaxing as watch TV at same time.

What have you noticed?

I've also found the serum bo Uses here (which was a surprise!!) so might try it. I've not found the mineral 89 that great - it does the job but doesn't particularly hydrate my skin. The serum serum serum from foreo was great and my skin felt lovely afterwards but I can't justify the price.

NinnyNewName · 28/07/2021 14:20

Sophie I quite like the Mineral89 but if I'm doing an extended routine I have to reapply a couple of times. In fact what I do is just apply to one side of face at a time. I haven't used my Bear in a couple of months. I am going to get back to it. I like the idea of using it whilst watching TV, but with my repeat application method that could get messy!

It's cooler again here in the UK. Have been super grateful for aircon in the bedrooms.

SophieLion · 28/07/2021 20:45

Yes I also apply the mineral 89 in sections ninny but it's still not enough for me. My skin always "drinks" up products. I also do a very light spray of mineral water too.

Good you got your AC. Was just in UK and caught the end of the hot weather and it felt so hot - at least here we have AC everywhere when it's that bad and houses are designed to be cool.

SallieSallow · 30/07/2021 09:12

I haven’t really noticed any change with the bear Sophie though I should have taken some ‘before’ photos as it’s hard to tell when you see yourself every day Grin

That being said I had Botox and fillers in December and I think the bear might be pro-longing the effects especially round my droopy mouth. I enjoy using it as it wakes me up in the morning and gets rid of that ‘just got up’ puffiness, it also seems to help my sinuses during allergy season.

I found Vichy 89 fine but was ploughing through it at very fast rate so bought the Cosrx serum as it’s cheaper for a larger bottle. Not used it yet as still got some Vichy dregs to get through but will report back once I do.

Jedstre · 31/07/2021 20:33

Hi all. Just wondering what Vitamin c people are using at the moment? I’ve been using GOW vit c and ferulic but it seems to change colour fairly soon after opening. I don’t keep in the fridge as it’s a long way from bedroom to kitchen.

SallieSallow · 01/08/2021 09:42

Hi Jedstre 👋

I’m still using timeless as a friend in the US is sending it to me, we have an arrangement where I send her some no7 stuff she can’t get there but I get through the timeless much faster so starting to feel like I can’t keep asking Sad & need to start looking for alternatives again. YES style sell timeless but think there were some issues with it not being very fresh on arrival.

botemp · 01/08/2021 10:24

I'm using Skinceuticals ATM. I did see something new from an Italian startup called skinlabo, it's very cheap (but only 15ml) and the shipping is high unless you buy 3 products from them (then it's free shipping). Quite a few of their other products have fragrance in so a bit annoying. I think they ship to the UK too, assuming DDP, it's ascorbic acid and a derivative in one water based formulation (but the highest concentration is ascorbic acid, no mention of percentage or pH though and no vitamin e or Ferulic).

Yesstyle does carry Timeless but with the timelines of shipping it from US to the South Korea to Europe you're probably not getting it very fresh. You can purchase Timeless on Amazon.com, it's through a reseller so it's a bit of a gamble but including shipping it works out about as much as it used to cost with timeless UK. Village ordered it in the the UK from bare face, but they make some false claims about being an official reseller on their site. I think the product is genuine but it was all a bit iffy and a huge hike up in price.

Sophie, hope you're okay, saw some scary news about the high temps and forest fires in Greece.

ilovemydogandmrobama2 · 02/08/2021 13:14

Am using Paula's Choice Vit C, but did get a bottle of Skineuticals C&E Ferulic on offer, so will be using that next and can't wait!

Have gone back to Skin + Me after a brief flirtation with Dermatica, which was a bit meh.

Got a ton of LRP sunscreen on offer at Boots, so quite boring.

SophieLion · 02/08/2021 19:06

Thanks bo. Yes we have an insane heatwave here and it's lasting too many days. It's 9pm now and it's still 35 degrees out. The PM has asked people to not use electricity and AC unnecessarily (or too low) as they're concerned the whole system will collapse. Sadly there have also been fires - seems to happens every year....

SophieLion · 02/08/2021 19:08

Sallie, I have used the cosrx serum now and prefer it to the mineral 89. More hydrating for me.

Not that I can get hold of them here, but has anyone used any of the the Dr Sam products?
