EU Websites for nice clothes online

I have been stung with the whole Brexit fallout of online shopping in Ireland using UK retailers and it really has made things prohibitive now. I will absorb the extra costs for the things I have ordered in the sales but going forwards I will look to EU websites.

I wondered if anyone had any good ones to share? I like clothes from Whistles / Jigsaw etc generally so anything else of that ilk?

It's all such a pity...

Thanks!

Has anybody ordered to Europe from Sweaty Betty recently. I am tempted by their Mission Parka. They say they include import taxes and customs in their pricing - I was wondering if this was the case.

I posted earlier on this thread about my order from the Eve Mattress Irish site - the company had told me that I wouldn't be subject to import duties and that they had factored duties into the price I paid at checkout. Just got a message from DHL that I need to pay EUR 200 in duties to get it delivered. I know it's not a clothes site, but sharing here to be aware - just because a UK company has created a .ie site and thinks they have covered the issue, that doesn't necessarily mean it's the case!

Am still waiting for my Look Fantastic order to be delivered and expecting to pay duties on that. Has anyone had any good experiences with beauty sites delivering to Ireland? I noticed Marian Keyes posted on insta this week that she has ordered from Net a Porter, so I might try that next.

I am in Germany and ordered Fitflop trainers .They arrived promptly but are unfortunately to narrow /small for my foot.I brought the package to the DPD Station and they refused to take it saying they are not accepting any packages for the UK at the moment. Asked at Deutsche Post /DHL and they said that they are accepting but of course I have to fill out a big long form to send the package back.

Another thing to note is all my Christmas cards from Ireland have only just arrived this week.

Elonmusk that is terrible about the mattress. Am going to steer clear of UK orders until things become clearer.

Gawd what a nightmare.
I'm in the UK (England) and want to order from Cos but cannot for the life of me work out where it ships from. Their website is impossible to navigate, but delivery time has officially gone up since Brexit so I have a feeling they might ship from the Netherlands or something.
Would be interested to know if any UK MNetters had ordered from Cos this year and been charged/ not charged customs duty?

Fairly sure I heard Cos is EU?

Has anyone noticed crazy price changes on the EU site equivalents? I’ve bought a few things from Me and Em and dresses on the UK site for £285 are now €405 on the EU site!!

Cos ships from The Netherlands.

Update on the mattress - it was delivered today, paid the duty, and Eve has put the prices up on their site so I do think the duty would bow be covered (although they still haven't come back to me!) Despite the crazy duty, it is incredibly comfortable so I'm not too fed up!

@caperplips and anyone else shopping online from Ireland - just to warn you that Next do not have free returns - I got very excited when I saw that they now do lots of other brands as well as their own, bought lots of items several of which I'm returning. Just noticed on their website that while delivery is free, returns have to be posted at my own expense. Its my own fault for not checking of course, but postage here is so expensive Shock.
Won't be making that mistake again!

M&S don't have free returns either (though no customs and it arrived quickly) so I'm waiting until the shops open to return to store. I think there's an extension till March 31st at the moment.

Thanks for that update @Tisgrand
I haven't bought anything from next
I'm glad this thread is still running. I bought quite a few things in the sales & was glad to see that lots of places delivered with duty paid - Atterley & Paul Smith
However I got a posted invoice from UPS this week saying I have a bill of €137 outstanding from 2nd week of Jan. I had no idea I did as packages were delivered with no info that anything was owed.
The invoice doesn't say where the package came from either. I tried ringing yesterday but they only answer the phones 9-12 each day & I missed it by 2 minutes yesterday ; was in work meetings all morning today so will have to take it up tomorrow

I think it possibly could be Tracy Neul boots & if it is I'll be pretty annoyed as I ordered them on 28 December. They didn't ship them until 10 Jan despite taking the money on the 28 & they charged me UK VAT too.

I'll wait till I speak to UPS tomorrow & see if I can figure out if it is the boots or not.

It's annoying as €137 is hefty enough on an already expensive pair of boots

I thought people had the option of declining the goods if they don’t want to pay customs?
Posting the bill after you have taken receipt of them is unacceptable surely?

Report
ElspethFlashman · 10/02/2021 17:54

That is scandalous.

Report
caperplips · 11/02/2021 00:53

I was not presented with any bill or notified about it until I received an overdue payment letter on Monday...so no option to refuse to accept or decline the package.

I'll fill you in tomorrow once I've spoken to UPS

I've had a couple of orders from H&M delivered to Ireland which I ordered after the 1st Jan. I haven't been charged anything additional.

I ordered from the IE site and my understanding was that because they have an Irish VAT no there wouldn't be extra charges. Not sure where they actually came from though - I should have checked the packaging.

I've had an H&M order and it was fine also.

I ordered from Boots and like a fool didn't realise "Collect from Store" was ticked. Now I have to find some way to pick it up. I work in the city so have a work pass for travel but am still very annoyed with myself.

If you don't pick up the Boots order Elspeth they'll just return it to the warehouse and issue a refund.

So I could just order again but for Home Delivery and ignore the Click & Collect order?

Or is that a bad form?? Blush

I checked with the chat customer service team on Next and they told me I can return to store whenever it reopens.... I only have one thing to return though. I don't think I'll chance ordering anything else until stores reopen though, just in case!

How are people finding this now? From my own experience and talking to others it seems to be hit and miss as to what is custom charged and what is not. No consistency. Some great recommendations on here but some are outside of my price range.

I found some European websites that suit me budget wise but unfortunately none seem to deliver to Ireland. Blancheporte, Creation L and others. Like the look of El Corte Inglés and hope to order soon.

@FatCatThinCat how do you order from Bon Prix Germany as my attempts default to UK site. Doesn't offer me any Ireland option although many other European countries listed.

I got really annoyed with Boden for this. They didn’t have anywhere I could input my birthday gift voucher and said they had sent it to me in error as only UK and the USA get them. They force you onto an EU site with (I calculated) 35% higher prices, when you used to be able to choose between the UK and EU sites. I like boden but they were already my upper price limit, so 35%+ and no codes crosses them off the list.
