EU Websites for nice clothes online

I have been stung with the whole Brexit fallout of online shopping in Ireland using UK retailers and it really has made things prohibitive now. I will absorb the extra costs for the things I have ordered in the sales but going forwards I will look to EU websites.

I wondered if anyone had any good ones to share? I like clothes from Whistles / Jigsaw etc generally so anything else of that ilk?

It's all such a pity...

Thanks!

Yeah I used Address Pal on the 1st Jan to get something off amazon that wouldn't ship to Ireland over the €22 & got charged customs. It also took 19 days Shock to arrive not sure which was worse Smile

The excise duties will depend on where the product originates. UK and Europe have less than if the product originates outside.

JaneJeffer · 22/01/2021 12:02

Look Fantastic now have an Irish site.

Just updating on my three orders.

  1. From John Lewis using addresspal. Got stung for €18 customs fee which wiped out the reductions on the dress. Good thing it fits and I like it; I couldn't face sending it back. I doubt I'll be ordering from JL again anytime soon, which is a shame as I love their Kin and And/Or ranges.
  1. Parcel 2 worth about €100. I though this was to be sent by courier all the way. It was handled by a courier up to a point and then handed over to An Post. My heart sank when I saw that on the tracking link, but it arrived this morning and there were no additional charges. The origin of the goods was not UK (Peru) so not an exemption of those grounds.
  1. Finally - parcel from ASOS. Still awaited. It was due today, but tracking link has not been updated since 5 Jan and ASOS are not being helpful.

So mixed experiences. While I'm v relieved I wasn't charged for my second parcel, I can't understand why not.

Oh and I ordered a dress in the Toast sale, while arrived promptly via DHL and there were no extra charges - unlike for the poster upthread.

Any items purchased for less than £135 don’t attract duty in the U.K. when buying from the rest of Europe. Is there something similar on the EU side? For larger purchases perhaps worth doing in smaller bundles

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 22/01/2021 15:32

Bluebird1234 I was just charged 19€ on items worth 65€. I won't order from the UK again.

EU rules are slightly different per country but as a general guide

Up to €22 (this one varies most per county, €22 is the max) VAT and import duty free. This will disappear either per July 1st or more likely January 1st of next year to create a more even playing field (basically stop the unregulated import of cheap Chinese products that may not be up to EU standards).

€22-€150 you have to pay VAT plus the admin costs the courier charges (can be a set amount or percentage but anywhere from €5 to much much more).

Over €150 you have to pay import duties (but if buying from the UK you don't if it's manufactured either in the EU or UK but the company has to register the country of origin on the form) and VAT and admin costs, import duties will be calculated on cost of item and shipping costs.

Rules for gifts between private individuals are slightly different (higher thresholds), I've linked these previously.

Uterque

Natura do nice clothes, homeware and also accessories like footwear and jewellery (they're Spanish) and also Kookai - I got a great knitted Kookai dress from La Redoute last winter.

I've only just had a look at this thread and am saddened at another negative effect of Brexit. British retailers can only lose from this. Salt in the wounds Covid is leaving.

Miseryisabutterfly · 22/01/2021 20:30

Has anyone in Ireland ordered successfully from Harvey Nichols? They say they pay customs but I’m still a bit worried I’ll get stung.

ElspethFlashman · 23/01/2021 11:02

I would avoid for now and check to see if the same product is available elsewhere.

What retailer was it?
Miseryisabutterfly · 23/01/2021 13:40

Thanks @ElspethFlashman. Unfortunately it is sold out everywhere else for now, hence the HN desperation! Hoping Brown Thomas will get a restock.

Redact · 23/01/2021 14:08

I've only just seen this thread as I came on to have a look to see if others were having the same issue as me, lots of EU companies no longer delivering to the UK. I'm so sorry that this is yet another negative effect of Brexit, to be honest I can't think of any positive effects of Brexit. It's the worst thing the UK voted for, although I'm Scottish and we voted to remain which only makes it all the more frustrating. I hope you all find lots of new lovely online shops that you don't have any duties to pay. Happy shopping

ElspethFlashman · 23/01/2021 14:40

What is it? Some of the French websites linked previously might have it?

ItchySwissRoll · 23/01/2021 15:28

Ouch! Charges on an order from John Lewis. They are sale items so still a little less than full price but I won't be ordering again. Better shift the Covid stone and make good use of my existing wardrobe!

Ouch @ItchySwissRoll! It’s just not worth it, is it?!

It’s a Rotate Sunday sweatshirt in red @ElspethFlashman! Thank you, I’ll look back over the thread!

botemp · 23/01/2021 21:09

Misery, from a quick Google I found a cropped red one at
My Theresa, based in Germany, which currently has free shipping.

net a porter also seem to carry the brand (they deliver DDP), and the brand itself is based in Denmark so you can order with them directly on their website though IME shipping from Denmark is usually quite expensive.

Miseryisabutterfly · 23/01/2021 21:21

Thanks so much @botemp! It’s actually the oversized one I was looking for but I like that too. I’ll keep an eye on the sights mentioned and hope it comes back in stock 🤞 (it’s my birthday soon so this was going to be a gift to myself 😂)

Miseryisabutterfly · 23/01/2021 21:21

*sites!

botemp · 23/01/2021 21:25

I found the oversized one on Selfridge's which I know do the whole taxes at checkout so no surprises.and you can get the Selfridge's plus delivery thing for €10 and you get a year's worth of free delivery. Only size M and L though.

Miseryisabutterfly · 23/01/2021 22:00

Oh, amazing! Thank you!
