EU Websites for nice clothes online

caperplips · 07/01/2021 14:47

I have been stung with the whole Brexit fallout of online shopping in Ireland using UK retailers and it really has made things prohibitive now. I will absorb the extra costs for the things I have ordered in the sales but going forwards I will look to EU websites.

I wondered if anyone had any good ones to share? I like clothes from Whistles / Jigsaw etc generally so anything else of that ilk?

It's all such a pity...

Thanks!

Plenty of beautiful clothes out there with no nasty surprises/uncertainty on delivery. Sézane and Baukjen have lovely things.

Yes disappointing @MrsArcher23 but at least I'll get the money back. Now spending my time browsing Sezane and Baukjen instead

Glad to hear you had a response, even if it wasn’t something you wanted to hear @elonmusk. Wyse never bothered to reply to me :(
Unfortunately I’m now lusting after a Me+Em knit coord - expensive but beautiful.

Quick update - Wyse got back to me; if I don't pay the import charges the item will be returned to them and they'll refund me. Given that I ordered the item at the end of August, I hope I'll get a refund by Christmas Grin

Uterque is Spanish but they f*cked up when I tried to order a nice skirt from them and sent completely the wrong item.

Natura is a Spanish brand with franchises throughout Spain, Portugal etc. The clothes are a bit new age hippy but I got some great high top canvas trainers, and canvas trainers there and free DHL delivery. Nice jewellery too.

@Larach

Massimo Dutti is Spanish and & Other Stories is Swedish I think.

Massimo Dutti unfortunately is not great quality.

I’ve emailed them. It will be interesting to see their response. Presumably level of sales in UK is enough at the moment.

Oh that's disappointing to hear @MrsArcher23 - I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't understand implications on the customer. I'm in Ireland too.

However I see that it’s no longer covering taxes and duties. One less website to bother with so…

I’ve bought quite a few things from Wyse over past few months and have never been charged extra duties /tax on delivery to Ireland. The website specifically says it delivers on a duty paid basis.

€76 tax on a cardigan

Bloody hell.

Hi all, not sure anyone will see this but wanted to share my latest import tax horror - I've just received notification that I'm being charged €76 for a cardigan to be delivered from Wyse London. I stupidly saw the delivery cost for overseas deliveries was €7 and made an assumption that all retailers had figured out a way not to sting their customers by now given that we're 10 months after Brexit. My own fault, but seriously disappointed.

@Allthewhite

Has anyone noticed crazy price changes on the EU site equivalents? I’ve bought a few things from Me and Em and dresses on the UK site for £285 are now €405 on the EU site!!

I got really annoyed with Boden for this. They didn’t have anywhere I could input my birthday gift voucher and said they had sent it to me in error as only UK and the USA get them. They force you onto an EU site with (I calculated) 35% higher prices, when you used to be able to choose between the UK and EU sites. I like boden but they were already my upper price limit, so 35%+ and no codes crosses them off the list.

How are people finding this now? From my own experience and talking to others it seems to be hit and miss as to what is custom charged and what is not. No consistency. Some great recommendations on here but some are outside of my price range.

I found some European websites that suit me budget wise but unfortunately none seem to deliver to Ireland. Blancheporte, Creation L and others. Like the look of El Corte Inglés and hope to order soon.

@FatCatThinCat how do you order from Bon Prix Germany as my attempts default to UK site. Doesn't offer me any Ireland option although many other European countries listed.
@caperplips and anyone else shopping online from Ireland - just to warn you that Next do not have free returns - I got very excited when I saw that they now do lots of other brands as well as their own, bought lots of items several of which I'm returning. Just noticed on their website that while delivery is free, returns have to be posted at my own expense. Its my own fault for not checking of course, but postage here is so expensive Shock.
Won't be making that mistake again!
I checked with the chat customer service team on Next and they told me I can return to store whenever it reopens.... I only have one thing to return though. I don't think I'll chance ordering anything else until stores reopen though, just in case!

So I could just order again but for Home Delivery and ignore the Click & Collect order?

Or is that a bad form?? Blush

If you don't pick up the Boots order Elspeth they'll just return it to the warehouse and issue a refund.

I've had an H&M order and it was fine also.

I ordered from Boots and like a fool didn't realise "Collect from Store" was ticked. Now I have to find some way to pick it up. I work in the city so have a work pass for travel but am still very annoyed with myself.

I've had a couple of orders from H&M delivered to Ireland which I ordered after the 1st Jan. I haven't been charged anything additional.

I ordered from the IE site and my understanding was that because they have an Irish VAT no there wouldn't be extra charges. Not sure where they actually came from though - I should have checked the packaging.

Any update from UPS caperplips?

I was not presented with any bill or notified about it until I received an overdue payment letter on Monday...so no option to refuse to accept or decline the package.

I'll fill you in tomorrow once I've spoken to UPS
