EU Websites for nice clothes online

I have been stung with the whole Brexit fallout of online shopping in Ireland using UK retailers and it really has made things prohibitive now. I will absorb the extra costs for the things I have ordered in the sales but going forwards I will look to EU websites.

I wondered if anyone had any good ones to share? I like clothes from Whistles / Jigsaw etc generally so anything else of that ilk?

It's all such a pity...

Thanks!

Other way round, but how bad is it going to be ordering products from my best beloved Greek pharmacy for delivery to the UK?

Hollybutnoivy · 13/01/2021 13:06

That seems like a huge bill on top Holly, have you contacted face theory about their 'shipped from the EU' claim?

Yes, and they have agreed to refund the extra charges which I think is very generous of them considering it was almost the total cost. Blush

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 13/01/2021 17:25

Just wondering if anyone can help...I'm in the UK and looking at the Ba&sh site. They direct me to their 'UK' site, don't mention any customs/duties/tax when I take my items to the checkout, and state that refunds are allowed within 14 days, even on sale items. However, I've ordered from the website in the past and the goods are definitely sent from France. Even if Ba&sh send my order to me DDP, will I have to pay an additional sum (on top of the postage) if I return the parcel from the UK to France? Apologies if that's a silly question.

botemp · 13/01/2021 17:39

That's good to hear Holly, Face Theory does have very good customer service.

Whiskey, going by the site they just haven't bothered to update it at all with Brexit as it doesn't concern them much very French. You have to return packages to France (at your own cost) so I'm assuming they're coming from there as well. I'd assume you will pay VAT, import duties over a certain amount and a service fee. You will probably not get much or any of those extra charges back when you make a return. With your return package you'll have to fill in the form properly to acknowledge they're returned goods otherwise Ba&sh would have to pay vat/import duties/etc and in all likelihood will refuse the package and it would be returned to you. You could try checking Place des Tendences and see if they ship DDP to the UK (I can't check the regional UK site due to restrictions so don't know). Otherwise I thought Selfridge's or one of the big department stores in the UK carries them online.

teawamutu, yes it goes two ways, although the situation in the UK is unclear atm as the government website regarding this is out of date.

hattymattie · 13/01/2021 21:12

Interesting thread. I'm in France and am assuming if I order from the Boden EU site I will still have to pay import duty. I will also have to lose my Sweaty Betty habit.

Sooverthemill · 13/01/2021 21:31

@whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie for information, I've been asked today to pay a total of £95 vat and customs charges by dhl to deliver my £235 worth of Sezane order to uk. So far I'm refusing as Sezane didn't tell me I'd have to pay extra VAT when I placed the order and I paid the vat to sezane in the £235

I believe Sezane are going to refund the additional fees for January

Zeldaaa · 13/01/2021 21:50

@Sooverthemill I’m impressed you’ve even heard about your order though. I’m not sure mine has even been sent back out yet. So frustrating!

Sooverthemill · 14/01/2021 09:04

@Zeldaaa yes I've had a WhatsApp message asking me to pay the fees so I can take delivery and they've refunded me via PayPal. I ordered 3 January. I'm happy with the extra £5 charge going forward and dint mind paying for delivery. Sadly I can never get down to London to get free click and collect! You should WhatsApp them I've found they reply very fast

loxie35 · 14/01/2021 09:13

Try Shein i always buy clothes from there, quite cheap but of high quality. They have an app also.

TheLisbonSisters · 14/01/2021 09:27

I got this text message asking me to pay import tax which I believed at first, but then realised it didn't relate to any order I was waiting for. Must be a scam, so I deleted it

Did you click a link Lisbon? If so, you might want to have a Google, for all you know something's downloaded onto your phone when you clicked. I don't think the scam is getting £1.50 out of you.

whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie · 14/01/2021 09:56

Blimey @Sooverthemill, that is a shocker! Thanks @Botemp for the info. When it comes to Ba&sh, Sezane etc, I will just have to wait till the shops open again, I guess.

Sooverthemill · 14/01/2021 10:15

@whiskeyfoxtrotcharlie but from this point forward yiu pay delivery charge of £12 plus a £5 fee which covers all the duties etc and Sezane pay them direct. So it's simpler. It just took them a while to sort it out. Boris didn't give much time did he?

TheLisbonSisters · 14/01/2021 10:24

Botemp I assumed the scam was to get me to give my bank details so didn't click to schedule the delivery further. Unfortunately I've deleted the text now so can't check further. I did just get a text from an unknown number asking "Who's this?" so am wondering if my phone sent something out. How do I check whether something has been installed on my phone?

TheLisbonSisters · 14/01/2021 10:33

Just did a virus scan and nothing came up. I didn't click on the "Schedule delivery now" button but obviously did open the text. I may have clicked on a link in the text if there was one but can't remember

TheLisbonSisters · 14/01/2021 10:39

Is it ok to reply to the unknown number asking who am to say I haven't texted them and asking if they've received a virus text from me?

botemp · 14/01/2021 10:53

I probably wouldn't, it seems a bit suspect tbh. Do you have an iPhone, in that case I wouldn't worry too much as that would block automatic downloads, so do a lot of other manufacturers. Malware would most likely have come in if you clicked anywhere on the site you were forwarded to. I think you can report suspicious texts with your mobile phone carrier, is IPS and actual company in the UK or just something to look like UPS? If it's an actual company they usually have info on what to do. Otherwise just follow standard smishing advice.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 14/01/2021 11:03

No suggestions OP, but just wanted to say that I find Massimo Dutti quite expensive for the quality. The clothes look amazing on the website, but they don't feel or look as quality in person IMHO.

TheLisbonSisters · 14/01/2021 12:33

Thanks @botemp I have a samsung

botemp · 14/01/2021 12:57

Assuming you're running on Android you should be okay unless you have specifically turned off the option of downloading from unverified sources (which most people don't).

I'd block the unknown number that texted you though.

This is a lovely Spanish shop. Very sad that I won’t be able to send for things from them an6 more

TheLisbonSisters · 14/01/2021 13:06

Thanks botemp. Should be ok then

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 14/01/2021 13:32

ASOS is completely international I think. Certainly things ordered in Germany are shipped from Germany...

Caspianberg · 14/01/2021 15:06

Next btw, I see you can choose to have your order sent from next German warehouse. It says on their website if it’s from there it should be fine
