Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

Another one here confused by chunky biker boots being aging. What do non old women wear for boots? Trainers aren't going to cut it on a soggy, muddy day. Well mine are all mainly white so I'm not risking it.

Frequentflier · 03/01/2021 08:45

What are Asian people with naturally dark hair meant to do? Dye it to a mid brown colour as they age? ( confused)

NorbertMeubles · 03/01/2021 08:45

I have a fringe and a very short sharp bob which may be aging to a lot on here but my attitude of not giving a fuck what others think makes me younger than those that think this 😃

Westfacing · 03/01/2021 08:46

Pashminas etc worn around the shoulders like a 'granny' shawl.

And slippers! I visited a very stylish friend in her very stylish modern flat and thought that her slippers made her look very old Shock

thecutback · 03/01/2021 08:47

I disagree that one's natural hair colour suits them in all cases.

I dye my hair bright natural copper and it suits so much better than my natural mid-brown

thecutback · 03/01/2021 08:48

And I agree with some other posters that this thread is quite horrible in places!

TornadoOfSouls · 03/01/2021 08:50

Small cheap cats being driven very slowly this made me lol

Bluesheep no, I’m sure your hair looks great. The ageing effect happens when the hair is obviously dyed and doesn’t remotely go with the woman’s complexion. Also when you can see the way the dye has built up over repeated dyeing so the hair has got darker.

As an unapologetic (youthful!) fleece wearer, I think it can look good. Certainly it's casual and practical rather than smart, but I don't think that's necessarily ageing.

Totally agree. It all depends on your style, it’s hard to condemn individual garments. Ditto waterproof coats, I wear a raincoat when it rains! I’ve noticed a lot of older people (men and women) seem to wear a ‘practical’ fairly short waterproof shapeless jacket even when there’s no rain in sight. It’s mega ageing in my opinion.

I’m mid 40s with a fringe and always wear my bag across my body btw Wink

DazzlePaintedBattlePants · 03/01/2021 08:51

Heavy eyeliner - or any makeup look that you adopted in your 20s and then failed to let go of in your 40s.

maddy68 · 03/01/2021 08:52

Haircut , heels and bright lipstick

SuePreem · 03/01/2021 08:52

This thread is horrible. Sexist and depressing. There's nothing wrong with ageing. Or wearing what the fuck you want.

scentedgeranium · 03/01/2021 08:53

Hair that isn't shiny. I've yet to see a box dye do what it's celeb ads say. This means if you go grey (which I think can look fab) you must help it shine. That's my plan!

JMAngel1 · 03/01/2021 08:54

A lot of things deemed to be ageing are actually in.

Grey white hair - very in - preferably cut in a shaggy loose waved asymmetrical bob
Boot cut jeans - totally in
Cross body bags - worn high up around waist with a camera style strap - totally in
Farrah Fawcett style sweeping curtain fringe - very in

Things that age me are too dark a bronzer, complicated eyeshadow application which accentuate my socket, being underweight, sugar and alcohol and hair too light as I lose contrast.

Oh and the poster who posted three boots - the first one is cool.

MistyMinge2 · 03/01/2021 08:56

This thread is laughable. So many contradictions.

I think happy people who give no fucks about what others think look bloody great.

MrsA2017 · 03/01/2021 08:56

I don’t think most of these suggestions make you look older... just not very fashion forward!

Kndg · 03/01/2021 09:03

I wish I had my present confidence when I was younger. I spent my late teens and 20s dieting and feeling self conscious - as a size 12-14. Wish I would have loved myself a bit more!

I never understood the saying 'youth is wasted on the young' until I hit 40.

JacobReesMogadishu · 03/01/2021 09:03

Kids in their late teens or twenties and your in your 30s/ 40s

I can’t do anything about that one! 🤷‍♀️😁

BikeRunSki · 03/01/2021 09:04

Judging by this thread, I should look about 90.

thedevilinablackdress · 03/01/2021 09:08

Slippers!!! WTF is 'wrong' with slippers? Is it OK if your flat isn't modern??

EstuaryBird · 03/01/2021 09:09

It differs for everyone. My friend and I are both mid 60s and the hair style, colour, clothing etc that looks good on me looks ridiculous on her and vice versa.

The thing that always makes you look old is behaving old....it’s all about the attitude 😊

pensivepigeon · 03/01/2021 09:10

The only one I can think of is botched Botox and fillers which just make a face look strange. Of course people say when it's done well you can't tell and maybe you can't but botched treatments like that look awful.

gildalilly · 03/01/2021 09:10

@coronafiona I drive my cat fast so I'm alright Grin

ChasingRainbows19 · 03/01/2021 09:15

@AccidentallyOnPurpose
I absolutely agree I was thinking the same thing on reading the posts. Some are just a list of some judging others.

I’ve never been fashionable or on trend so don’t really care if my bag isn’t in the latest trend or I own a waterproof coat because I walk a lot Have a fringe and long hair because it suits me. I don’t wear polish as I work on a ward. I wear clothes that fit and suit me and I look after my health, fitness and nutrition which I hope will help me as I age

Age comes to us all and this thread shows a everyone as a different idea of what ages us.

newlabelwriter · 03/01/2021 09:18

In defence of fleeces my DD and her friends who are in their teens and very cool, all love a fleece. 😉

MerryGoRoundBrain · 03/01/2021 09:19

Loving this thread!
I’m an avid cross body bags wearer Grin
I’ve also grown out my dark dyed hair and I’m now officially fabulously grey Grin
I also love a matte lipstick Grin
Fuck me, I must look about 90.

Oh, I also wear leggings a lot. Given that my most extravagant outing these days is to Tesco or for a walk, I’m not exactly bothered.

Whatever happened with feeling comfortable and looking appropriately for the occasion as being the two most important things?

Swaddlemeinplants · 03/01/2021 09:23

🤣
This thread is hilarious

I’m 30 and already have:

  • glasses on a chain
  • Fleeces
  • An assortment of ‘mum boots’
  • I don’t wear bags but if I did, it would match my shoes!
  • Most of my time out is spent walking the dog so heels are a no no but I’ve always been a court or kitten heel girl if going somewhere nice or ‘dressing up’
  • All my jewellery is cheap
  • I have several long necklaces
  • I have a fringe
  • Overplucked eyebrows
  • Overweight
  • long skirts
  • I have some body con pieces
  • French polish nails when I can be arsed
  • Matte lipstick
There’s probably more

According to this silly thread I must look about 100!
