Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

What about my pubes? Those are even darker.. black really.

I am surprised that pubes were not on the list as ageing.
No-one under 40 has any apparently.

Carbs are the most ageing thing for me. I usually stick to a lowish-carb diet but I ate waaaay too many over Christmas and have gained pounds- mostly under my eyes.

Fortunately I've got a long fringe to hide them Grin

Ddot · 04/01/2021 17:54

I agree hair dyed too dark, skinny brows, heavy makeup especially eye liner. I'm old and wear mini skirts, boots and whatever I bloody like. Bugger it, my body my life, do what I like 🤣 so there

Codswallopcurry · 04/01/2021 17:58

I am told I look about 50 when I am actually 63, my hair is multi toned grey, I dress like a hippy, hardly wear makeup. I moisturise a lot, admittedly. I don't worry too much about fashion, but avoid anything granny looking, like flared flowery skirts.

dizzy125 · 04/01/2021 18:02

@MadameNaice you just described my body shape....long legs and a booty? What's not to love? Embrace what you've got!

FanfictionFan · 04/01/2021 18:04

I'm sticking up for bootcut jeans I bloody miss that style, I can't wait for them to be back in fashion. Tbh I wear them anyway and don't actually give a fig what people think.

Cut that long fringe off immediately, us older ladies aren't allowed one it's been said. Cut an extremely short monk fringe in this second or use clips to clip it to the sides! Pppfffttt thinking you're allowed a fringe when not a young'un, get over yourself Grin

They are back, lots of shops have them in.

It depends how old you are to begin with - I think the trend among a lot of young girls in the UK (late teens/early 20s) for long blond hair, orange make-up, false nails etc is incredibly ageing and a complete waste of what should be their most glowing, golden years. Likewise for older women in their 60s, 70s who continue dying their hair back to the dark shade of their youth. I think knowing when the time has come to rock your natural hair colour is really tricky and much harder if you have dark hair to begin with. I do think very long hair beyond a certain age is inevitably ageing as is trying to look the same as you did when you were in your 20s. Overweight in middle age adds year, but too thin as you get beyond that is just as bad. Smoking and sun-exposure take a toll that is impossible to undo. You can look frumpy at any age and also fabulously stylish, but your hair, teeth, hands and figure are on show whatever you wear and I think these are what age you however fabulously you are dressed.

@TwirlingTwizzler

Well that just shows how much attention I pay to fashion Grin These days as long as it fits, it's comfy and keeps me warm then it's a win in my book.

CaptainNelson · 04/01/2021 18:13

What if some of us want to look our age? Honestly I couldn't give a shit about some of the opinions on here, but why is there an assumption (still) that looking older is bad? Honestly, some people seem to spend too much time thinking about this shit...

2BDIs · 04/01/2021 18:13

The wrong hair colour and cut for skin tone and face shape. I am so pale with rosy cheeks and if I dye my hair dark I look about 50, as it drains what little colour I have from my face. I'm late 30s BTW.
As long as I keep my hair past shoulders but cut into a nice shape and very light, grey blonde at moment as fed up dying it, I look much younger. I wear minimal make up but pinker or gray tones of eye shadow keep me looking younger, anything too heavy or dark and I look like an aged cross dresser Blush

People who go that weird highlighted blonde with dark hair underneath (popular with people going grey I think and over 50s). It's really ageing. I also realized leather gloves are really ageing when I got offered gloves as a Christmas present. Cashmere lined gloves made me feel and look twenty years older! I ended up with knitted mittens.

Scoobydoobydo · 04/01/2021 18:34

Pendants or beads that hang on the boobs
Cardies ( not all tho)
Twin sets
Tan tights
Wearing a broach
Dark lip liner on thin aging lips
Pink blusher
False eyelashes so huge you have to tip your head back to open your eyes
A frown

EverythingsSoComplicated · 04/01/2021 18:34

Your mother buying you granny knickers for Christmas ........you open one pressie and it's a Victoria secret nighty. You get all excited open the second package. (Infront your husband I may add) and it's granny knickers from Sainsbury's. I'm 34 not 64 nearly cried on the spot. Is this really where my life is. My mum buying me granny knickers, I even tried them on just to see if I could put up with them. They go up past my belly button. 😩😩😩😩. Am I really that old!!!!!

@Jetatyeovilaerodrome

Grey hair. Sorry but it does. It can look fabulous if you are fully made up and it is immaculately styled, but otherwise it is so ageing. A friend of mine has recently grown hers out and I'm glad she has liberated herself of the dye, but there is no question that she looks quite a bit older. I guess it depends on how much you think that matters?
Yes to this. Grey hair looks quirky on young people. On older women it can look ageing. I have a friend who's gone grey.and it suits her, but there's no denying she looks 10 years older.
