Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

This thread has actually made me smile unlike some others today.

I am guessing those who only wear wool coats and use umbrellas don't live on the side of a hill in Cornwall Wink.

The only thing that an umbrella would be good for here is pretending to be Mary Poppins! It rains pretty constantly where I live usually horizontally!! Whilst I can certainly appreciate the beauty of a well cut woollen coat I have to admit to finding a warm waterproof hooded coat preferable if I want to leave the house more than a handful of times a year and stay dry. I am sure that this ages me tremendously but hey ho!

AccidentallyOnPurpose · 03/01/2021 17:22

No Make up (I have been doing this recently and it's not good!)

It's great if that's all other people know. The only way to go is up.Grin

AlwaysLatte · 03/01/2021 17:22

I suppose Seasalt is completely out as well then Blush

AlwaysLatte · 03/01/2021 17:22

@Accidentally Well that is very true :-D

SueDeNimm · 03/01/2021 17:24

Short hair. Especially when it has various strange dyes in it. Short at the back and puffy on the top/feathered. Add a dyed or bleached stripe. 😮

Or short undyed hair because you don't want to 'fuss about' with it. Fringes can depend. I got a long one from Alexa chungs hairdresser a few years ago and it took years off me.

Short skirts/dresses with skinny heels. Wear one but not both at the same time. Ditto cleavage- if you want to do it be very casual/loose in the rest of your attire. Ditto short and tight.

Extra weight and muffin tops. Leopard print unless you are very careful. Very long straight hair. Hippie clothing.

Its white- so it might work like semen

Yes. Banned completely apart from when you just want to be comfy. But even then it's not cheap is it? 99% of m and a gets it wrong especially their brand (can't remember the name) which has boho aspirations.

I wear the same tan handbag all year

Me too Gwenhwfar, because it goes with almost everything, which black does not. That’s the point. Similarly it looks both frumpy and ageing, in my opinion, to use a ‘proper’ handbag with, say, a fleece or a North Face type jacket. There’s no need to have a bag for every outfit but if you are a fleece wearer you might want to buy a nice rucksack, for example, rather than a standard black leather handbag.

Destinysdaughter · 03/01/2021 17:30

This thread makes me want to wear a leopard print fleece just to piss people off!

( Do such things even exist...? )

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/01/2021 17:33

So, anything white, with the exception of rice pudding crack filler is out, and anything fleece even though it is in fashion cannot be worn otherwise you will be accused of trying to look like a teenager or a subscriber to a high end fashion magazine ( not sure why reading a book is a crime!?!). F**ks sakes people take themselves too seriously.

Lily193 · 03/01/2021 17:33

NiceGerbil

Great tip. I've been finding the polyfiller isn't working too well recently.

IfNotNow12 · 03/01/2021 17:33

Hahaha I have almost those exact M&S boots (granny boots) Grin
They are mad comfy.
Also have, and sometimes wear, some lovely high heels. I'm quite partial to a big slouchy top, leggings and high heeled boots, it makes me feel a bit Stevie Nicks.
Agree that as well as out-of-date husbands lithe teenage children can also be quite ageing. Unless you hang on their arm and say "oohh, do you think people think I'm your big sister?!" Then it's fine.

The "princess diana" cut and blow dry, so beloved of my mother and her friends. Last popular in the early 90s.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/01/2021 17:36

Destinysdaughter, yes, Ugg had some joggers and a matching top in the sale, looked very cosy though! 😂

Very apt

Anyone who wears Joules, Next or M and S clothes.

Every single item of clothing in all of those stores?
I have some really lovely clothes from Next and M and S, and get complimented on them every time I wear them.

As a jewel winter I never wear anything tan - shoes, bag, belt because it doesn't go with anything I own.

It's the same with camel coats and beige trench coats. They don't suit everyone yet they are held up as the epitome of style.
