What instantly ages?

Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

The balding paunchy chap walking beside you instantly ages you.
The complete opposite applies. Walking beside my 22 year old son however...

Janegrey333 · 03/01/2021 16:37

@Madbengalmum

I don’t think many of the people judging on this thread have consulted a fashion publication for some time, as many of the things they dis are actually de rigeur at the moment! Joggers Fleece Crossbody bags White hair And bootcut jeans are in fashion.

Perhaps these judgy individuals should check these things out before they post.

Yes but... The way teenagers and so on wear the items you have listed above is DIFFERENT to the look on you! You are being delusional is you think you look the same as they do! Time for a reality check, I think. 😆
Janegrey333 · 03/01/2021 16:38

@Madbengalmum

HeelsHandbags, perhaps you need to take things a little less seriously if my phraseology is causing so much concern. I am not quite sure why you felt it appropriate to launch such a tirade, but hey each to his own.
Ooh. Bingo time!
HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 03/01/2021 16:42

@Janegrey333 the bingo was being asked did I mean to be so rude
Yes, I meant everything I wrote in the post.none of it was accidental

Janegrey333 · 03/01/2021 16:43

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

Yes I intended my post as it was written, if that’s what you’re asking Your phraseology and observation was frankly bizarre
I think it was an attempt to seem knowledgeable and to allude to being an avid reader of Vogue et al.
Madbengalmum · 03/01/2021 16:43

JaneGrey, of course they wear things differently., whenever have I mentioned i want to look the same as them, jees,this afternoon i swear people are just out to be rude arseholes!
I don’t tend to read teenage publications, as i am not one, and I don’t have any teenagers. So I couldn’t really give a monkeys as to how they wear the items.
Vogue, Harpers and Tatler don’t tend to be aimed at teenagers, but all of the aforementioned items have been featured in them.

@Gwenhwyfar do you never go shopping when it is raining?

I've got the best of both options- handsome ds of similar age and DH:😊
goteam · 03/01/2021 16:44

When I think of people I know who look slightly older than their age (so 40 year olds looking 45 or so) they tend to be very thin, as in size 8 or less. They have very lined faces, they still look great but I think older than their age. I guess it's a trade off. I am carrying an extra stone buton the plus side no wrinkles!

toetickle · 03/01/2021 16:46

Bobs and hair styles that look like Anna Wintour's of Vogue fame
Sunglasses on when you don't need them (eg indoors)
Low denier sheer black tights
Blue tights
Lacey tights
Footless tights
Holdups that slip down
Nylons in any shade of tan
Stiletto heels on anyone over 40

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/01/2021 16:46

I have thought of something that isnt exactly aging as such but it doesnt flatter anyone, and its those horrible massive shapeless dresses.

My DD tried one on and she looked like I did for the first month after I had her! Nothing fitted except maternity clothes and I no longer had a bump to fill them out. She looked sort of haggard and CBA. I have not seen them look good on anyone, not even the models.

LobotheBotanist · 03/01/2021 16:46

Ah no, but you see, having a 22 yr old son is also very ageing

Apparently

According to a poster here Grin

recognising that this is S and B (but it came up as 'active') - indeed, what a nasty thread.

clothes/slap etc don't age. Some things do look very silly though; ripped jeans with most of the front missing, rectangular eyebrows, staggering high heels, the 'recently punched' look of lip fillers and overly whitened teeth.

what looks silliest is dressing for a city lunch date when you are outdoors in rain/mud/wind etc. Women on footpaths in heels, tight jeans, silly cutesy coats and so on look ridiculous. As well as really uncomfortable.

and the very IDEA that someone would wear a waterproof coat rather than a dickish fashion item that does nothing to keep the weather out.. scandalous. Imagine women dressing comfortably? Must not be allowed.

I'm a grandmother anyway so very ancient😅

Yes, which is why I always wear a waterproof coat. I don't understand why you directed that question at me? Was it meant for someone else?

"Anyone with sun damage, scrawny necks and aged looking hands. But nothing can be done about this."

Not true ... sunscreen , laser , filler , profilo ;)

My sister and I have a deal.

She looks young, I look skinny.

THe problem isnt being thin, its losing weight post 40. Whenever I lost a lot of weight when younger, after babies etc, my skin pinged back. This time it hasnt. I lost nearly 6 stone (a lot of it quite quickly due to trauma) and it has definitely aged my face. I am lucky in that I dont have crows feet or any proper wrinkles yet (thank you Grandma for your magic genes!) but I used to look a lot younger than I was, now I dont. But my friend has always been an 8, the biggest she ever got was a 10 when she was pg, and she has aged a lot more subtly and slowly than me.

Mum boots (disclaimer: I know this is a problematic term). Apologetic, tiny wedge heel. Unnecessary ruching. Buckles that whisper ‘I’d like to wear biker boots’.

Those are not Mum boots, they are granny boots!
PyongyangKipperbang · 03/01/2021 16:50

Oh and I now have a wattle as my double chin just sort of hangs there without the fat to pad it out.

GGilbert · 03/01/2021 16:51

Grey hair ages people no doubt -many suit it but still makes them look older
White stuff type shapeless clothing-Tunics
Bright jazzy coloured oversized jewellery usually from M and S
Black leather bag for every occasion
Mint velvet type outfits for evening wear
Big scarves
Too much embellishment on clothing.
I think you can pretty much wear anything if you have confidence and I don't agree with the rules on long hair over 40 etc.
Just looking around at people I think look older than their years these would be the culprits for me.

PyongyangKipperbang · 03/01/2021 16:51

@DelphiniumBlue

They are very similar to the boots we wore in the early to mid 80's!

Ginfordinner · 03/01/2021 16:52

Opps, sorry @Gwenhwyfar Blush. The question was meant for cakeallday

lentilsforlunch · 03/01/2021 16:53

Caked under eye concealer settling in the creases (can't get this right)
