Whether that be clothing or cosmetics, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I have a few of my own thoughts on this, though I could be way off the mark.

Am in need of a boost and think I might be unwittingly ageing myself before my time.

Thanks.

Short hair
Frumpy ill fitting ‘practical’ clothes
Grey hair
Hair sprayed hair
Cardigans
Too much makeup up
Fringes can either make you look young or old - no in between really

How are all these posters getting their hair stylishly cut and coloured? My hairdressers has been closed most of this year. I have managed only two haircuts since March.

On a positive note though, this has forced me to grow out my illegal fringe and Bob.

FraughtwithGin · 03/01/2021 12:53

Polyfiller-type make-up.
"Slug" eyebrows that match exactly.
Trout-pout lip fillers.
False eyelashes.
Skirt, dress or trouser lengths that are not in proportion with the body wearing them.
Hair roots growing out.

Hair roots growing out

How is that ageing? (assuming roots aren't grey) rooty hair still seems passable amongst the teens-30 somethings I know, yet my mum wouldn't dream of having roots and religiously gets her hair done 6 weekly (Covid permitting!)

Hair that is beyond shoulder length.
Short “pixie cut”.
Grey hair.
Those wrinkled ankle “bootees”.
Leggings under print dresses.
Matching outdoor wear with “hubby”...
Talon nails -real or false - with thick polish.
Too much gold jewellery.
Matchy matchy “outfits”.
Statement necklaces.
Trying to follow so-called trends.
Wearing clothes that are too tight or too short.
Lagenlook / waterfall cardigans.
Pastel colours.
Using expressions like “hubby or hubs or hubster”.

Toilenstripes · 03/01/2021 13:06

I'm shocked at how judgey some of the replies are on here.

Live in Wales - seems like we are always yo-yoing in and out of tier 4

Everything is closed yet again.

tsmainsqueeze · 03/01/2021 13:17

@Bluesheep8

Hair that is dyed too dark a shade. My auntie does this. She has very dark brown/black hair in her youth and dyes it black still at 73

This always confuses me. People always say that very dark hair is ageing. I'm 47 with very fair skin and my hair is naturally almost black with no grey at all. My grandparents both had this colouring too and were well into their 70s. Can someone's natural colour be ageing?

No because its natural , dyeing it darker if it goes grey is ageing.
ducktales1986 · 03/01/2021 13:24

Really can't win on the hair front here 😂

No long hair
No pixie cuts
No bobs
No fringes
Nothing old fashioned
Don't dye it dark
Don't be grey
Don't have roots
No buns
Nothing overdone
Nothing harsh

So basically everyone has to have some kind of messy dark blonde Lob ?

I’m in Wales too. I get my hair cut and highlighted at home every 3 months and I apply the purple colour every month myself. I do the twist trick to snip off any split ends before the dye goes on. At around the half way point I go to a local salon and have the shape tidied and some of the weight removed to keep me going.

As it happened I managed around lockdowns with some slight flexing: highlights and cut end of July; cut early Oct; highlights got disrupted by the firebreak but re-arranged for end of Nov. I’m careful with how much I mess with it between appts and use quality products. So it stays looking good. I’m not brave enough to attempt self-cutting, but can always detract from it falling out of shape with a loose bun on top or clipping it up at the front.

Presumably it’s an appearance thing whilst drinking it. You look older than someone drinking blue WKD.....
