Has anyone else stepped away from Cult Hirons?

I cannot bare her group anymore so I left, it's all a bit of an echo chamber these days.

I find her virtue signalling under the guise of 'doing what's right' nauseating, I've cancelled her book and won't ever read anything she writes again.

She says she supports women's rights but only if it suits her agenda.

So you can only have a view on something if you buy it, is that right? On that basis let’s just close MN down now, shall we?

Scruffyoak · 16/06/2020 09:39

Never liked her.

WinWinnieTheWay · 16/06/2020 09:42

I stopped following her too.

corpsebrid3 · 16/06/2020 10:09

"I’m sorry but your logic doesn’t make any sense.

Caroline Hiron is a skincare guru so she shouldn’t talk about politics. So therefore JK as a children’s writer also shouldn’t talk about politics....right!"

Just to say I'm not here to persuade anyone as regards my logic. For me, it's not much reach for an author who has written about fascism in her books to have a view on the current situation affecting women. I didn't find CH's views (or her expression of them) respectful. Let's leave it at that 🤷🏻‍♀️

MrsKingfisher · 16/06/2020 10:29

It appears we may have a few of the Hirons fangirls in our midst which is fine everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please don't tell me she's a lovely person when A you probably haven't spent any time with her and B she publicly goes after another woman and calls her a twat. She has no class.

OP posts:
Lottapianos · 16/06/2020 11:07

'B she publicly goes after another woman and calls her a twat'

And for the appalling crime of naming and recognising female biology Hmm

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/06/2020 11:30

I disagree with Caroline's opinion on JK Rowling and I don't follow her but she has the right to express her opinion.

Railingsohno · 16/06/2020 12:21

She has the right to disagree with JKR of course, but to call her a twat does not put CH in a good light. Exactly the kind of thing that made stop following her. She’s crass and aggressive .
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 16/06/2020 12:30

Yes, calling someone you disagree with a twat says more about yourself.

Trigger2 · 16/06/2020 12:39

I followed her for a short time, purely about skincare, until I realised there were a variety of qualified dermatologists on YouTube where I could get better more down to earth information and advice.

Charlieiscool · 16/06/2020 12:54

There are many more qualified YouTubers and I have always been baffled by her popularity and her whole family industry flogging and promoting stuff. Why is she considered by some to be a guru? I don’t understand it. Sali Hughes and Nadine Baggott come across as much more pleasant and knowledgable and they look great, I listen to what they say about make up but skin care - I’m more willing to listen to the dermatologists.
As for Trinny, so hyper excited and crazy all the time, I hope she’s well, and her make up is mediocre and overpriced.

PersonaNonGarter · 16/06/2020 12:56

Who are you following instead @Trigger2?

It would be really useful to have a few more sources. I am tired of CH, but still here for the drama.

Trigger2 · 16/06/2020 13:17

@PersonaNonGarter I initially started following Dr Dray then moved on to Dr Sam Bunting and Dr Davin Lim. I’ve found generally their advice to be better suited to my skin, especially in regard to using unfragranced products and daily sunscreen.

MintJuleps · 16/06/2020 15:44

@mrskingfisher I 'know' CH. I can confirm what you say about her. I was once at an event with her and she kept going on and on about everyone looking at her hair. Nobody was looking at her, let alone her hair! At another event, she announced loudly that she was famous and hoped people didn't crowd her too much. Errmmmm, they didn't! Grin

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 16/06/2020 16:05

I like Dr Sam Bunting's approach to skincare, but it's worth pointing out that although she's a doctor with several years of experience in dermatology, she's not what most people would consider a dermatologist, which is to say that she hasn't completed medical specialty training in dermatology.

My favourite dermatologist "influencer" type person is Dr Anjali Mahto, she's great!

MrsKingfisher · 16/06/2020 16:51

It hasn't taken long for other 'influencers' to start talking about 'Bodyshop newness'

Er yeah, we see you and we aren't stupid.

What’s body shop newness?
MrsKingfisher · 16/06/2020 17:21

Influencers pushing new Bodyshop products. Picked their timing!

OP posts:
MintJuleps · 16/06/2020 18:16

She said in her group the other day that body shop weren't an MLM. She would of course, as she consults for them

ChipsyChopsy · 16/06/2020 18:59

I've noticed there was a lot of Body Shop posts following the shutting down of the JK thread.

Wasn't she horrendous about some breastfeeding thing on Twitter too? I do agree that there is something very off in the way she comes across.

I once staggered upon her in a Space NK doing quick consultations. As I entered the shop the assistant asked if I was 'here to see Caroline', I said no (I was just there for a look around the shop), I was given a side eye that could kill. At the time I presumed she just had unfortunate timing, but as the years have passed I'm not so sure.

I have met Sali Hughes through, and she was nice. I think her instagram persona doesn't do her any favours.

ChipsyChopsy · 16/06/2020 19:06

I've looked for the breastfeeding argument. I can only find the original comment, but I've a feeling it escalated and annoyed me! Willing to be corrected.

Lottapianos · 16/06/2020 19:12

Chipsy, side eye from who? Assistant or Caroline?

Nice to hear about Sali Hughes. She often comes across cold and a bit tetchy, maybe shes just uncomfortable being filmed or whatever

Alsohuman · 16/06/2020 19:42

I’ve met Sali Hughes too. She’s OK but painful to be around because she’s so uncomfortable in her own skin.

ChipsyChopsy · 16/06/2020 20:55

@Lottapianos By Caroline. It was a small shop and I was kind of halfway up when the assistant approached me. I was probably a bit too emphatic with the 'no' but I didn't want people to think I was jumping the queue. I guess she might have taken it as a slight.

Lottapianos · 16/06/2020 21:17

Alsohuman, that's the feeling I get from watching her on Instagram and YouTube
