I cannot bare her group anymore so I left, it's all a bit of an echo chamber these days.

I find her virtue signalling under the guise of 'doing what's right' nauseating, I've cancelled her book and won't ever read anything she writes again.

She says she supports women's rights but only if it suits her agenda.

I just find her too abrasive and don't enjoy hearing her talk.

I do love Nadine Baggot. She's smart, approachable, seriously informative and knows her science.

Bestbe · 14/06/2020 11:03

All a bit shouty and exhausting. Also so expensive.
I might be wrong but she wasn’t exactly all about BAME women... now she is.
Not seen her opinions on JKR that just adds to my need to avoid her.

Thighmageddon · 14/06/2020 11:45

I've followed her for a long time and learnt a lot but I've seen some of her Insta lives and been put off with all the shouty ranting.

I've been watching a lot more of Nadine Baggot's stuff in the last couple of weeks because she's using more scientific terms that are easy to understand. I can just about put up with her constant hair fiddling.

EmpressJewel · 14/06/2020 12:13

I came across CH years ago through MN and read her cheat sheets as I was looking to improve my skin. I thought the advice was really helpful, but I turned off when she was making really expensive product recommendations and writing that women should be spending £££ on products because anything below this was crap.

At the time, we had two pre school age children, both working full time and just getting by. I couldn't afford to spend that much on something for my skin. I think it's a shame that these so called experts are so out of touch with the lives of most normal women. I don't know many people who can afford to spend £££ on skincare.

cinammonbuns · 14/06/2020 12:35

The hypocrisy of people calling her a mean hard women while slagging her off on here.

I’m no fan of her (thinks she promotes too much expensive skincare) but honestly you guys are pathetic.

cloud1183 · 14/06/2020 12:50

I think she's quite nasty at times. I remember a recent post on Instagram where she called people 'a dick' for not having the same opinions as her. She then gets her baying mob applauding her and anyone who dares to disagree gets called a 'dick' or 'troll' until they are bullied out of the thread. She's quite toxic

TheBigRoundSquare · 14/06/2020 13:02

Another vote for Nadine Baggott. I found CH advice really confusing. And expensive!

Since the beginning of lockdown, I've been following Nadine Baggott's advice and can see a huge difference in my skin. She recommends a really simple routine and most of her recommended products are from Boots and Superdrug.

botemp · 14/06/2020 13:11

Gah Canterbury don't lump me in with the gurus 🙈

I'm no fan of CH but I too think it's not on to go after her appearance. She wasn't born a guru from the womb with all the information accessible we have now. Nor has she been wined and dined and treated to complimentary tweakments from her early twenties like those faces in traditional media. I think in skincare it's very much don't trust a skinny cook, someone with perfect skin is not the person who will give you constructive advice, someone whose skin doesn't come easy and still doesn't will have better experience to share. I haven't really seen a picture of her recently but the skin that skincare products have any sort of influence over (which isn't much, granted) has always looked good IMO, the rest is just down to a lifetime of lifestyle choices, stress, diet, genetics, class you're born into, etc. which she doesn't all control, and certainly not at this point in her life.

In the larger scheme of things though I do find all influencers and the traditional media related versions highly toxic and it's all to the benefit of the beauty industry. I do wish Naomi Wolff would come out with an updated version of the Beauty Myth (she's done a few iirc but it all feels a bit outdated now) that tackles this influencer culture and #girlboss economy as it's so highly exploitive of women and of female solidarity (the rather convenient invoking of the girl code whenever there's any sort of directed criticism when their own conduct could hardly be described as 'sisterly') and all influencers who make a living out of this best 'friend' selling MO are participating in it, to the detriment to us all.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/06/2020 13:16

Newby Hands is really good too, it’s mostly high end stuff but she used to work for Harper’s & Queen and got me started on sunblock 21 years ago before anyone was really talking about it. Their articles on skincare used to be well thought out & based on science.

I don’t mind them recommending expensive stuff when their well off, I’m not expecting her to be using Superdrug stuff like me. I’ve seen her use tretonoin cream and she’s open about Botox.

Glitterb · 14/06/2020 13:19

I wish I could afford the products she constantly recommends!

woodhill · 14/06/2020 13:20

Always expensive products

DameXanaduBramble · 14/06/2020 13:22

I don't rate ch or sh. Both abrasive knowitalls.

I have really good skin, not a wrinkle at 48, lots of that is genes but lots is also as per pp, water, water, water, eating good oils and Aldi caviar creams. They are simply the DBs!!!

MrsKingfisher · 14/06/2020 13:48

This thread wasn't started to bash how she looks I couldn't give a shit about that, I care that she jumps on every bandwagon going males 'look at me I'm doing my bit' posts feigns emotion and has a crowd of women fangirling begging her for 'merch' when actually she is self serving and for saying she is about women's rights it took her no time to call JK out as a twat.

She's no more than a well paid playground bully and it's time she was stopped.

Love Nadine Baggott... she understands the science AND the budget. She will mention the high end products AND the wonderful alternatives...

justilou1 · 14/06/2020 13:52

Sali does seem lovely too

withlotsoflove · 14/06/2020 14:05

Lots of women on her Facebook page have terribly damaged skin. Unfortunately all those products are actually a waste of money.
SPF
Retin A
Cleanse gently and moisturise.
& maybe? the occasional acid.
If that was recommended though - she’d have no followers/ let alone a job! Grin
Why are her fans so devoted?
Genuine question? Smile

Lottapianos · 14/06/2020 14:08

Nadine is the best out of the three for recommending plenty of budget products as well as high end. Someone mentioned Caroline Hirons' cheat sheets and I do think they are really useful. I like her advice on skincare methods rather than specific products

Personality wise, I don't warm to any of the three, but that doesn't really matter if they know their stuff and give sound advice. CH's nastiness towards JK Rowling though has been beyond the pale so I'm no longer interested in anything she has to say. Shes a bandwagon jumper for sure

JamieLeeCurtains · 14/06/2020 14:14

Can't abide the spitefulness toward JK Rowling. Shows a nasty streak and very poor standards which presumably permeate her life and ethics.

MiniTheMinx · 14/06/2020 14:45

I didn't know who she was, ......she's 50? I'm 47 and I don't want to look like that at 50.
Nothing compensates for good diet, fitness and genes. No amount of money, surgery or cream will make a silk purse of a sows ear.

Littlepurpleflower · 14/06/2020 14:56

I do think that the beauty person you follow should have similar skin to you. I love Trinny’s videos but she has oily post-acne skin and I have very sensitive skin. Microneedling was the worst thing I ever did to my face but Trinny has pedestalised. CH has similar skin to me so I value her judgement. But skin care only, please, skluvvies.

Thighmageddon · 14/06/2020 15:38

That's a very unkind thing to say.
MuthaClucker · 14/06/2020 15:47

Went off her a long time ago, when I realised she doesn't actually say anything. Opening and rubbing amounts on the back of your hands and inhaling is not skin advice. I think she is probably one of the few people who should actually suffer from Imposter Syndrome.

Her and Sali Hughes are just glorified floggers.

Nadine Baggot does actually know what she's talking about, and is open about when she's being paid.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 14/06/2020 16:00

I don't know, I've followed her advice for a few years and I've seen a huge improvement in my skin. I think her blog is a good starting point if you're just starting to learn about skincare, as long as you don't follow the advice blindly. You have to know what does and doesn't work for your skin, like my face would actually fall off if I used acid toners twice a day, as well as retinol every night (as per her routines cheat sheet). Beyond that I don't particularly care what her opinions are on things, I follow her for skincare advice, not because I need a moral compass.

I do agree about the facebook group though, I never post in it any more because of all the arguing and virtue signalling and bollocks. I am in a few different skincare groups though and they are the same, so it's not just hers. I think it's just what happens when a group gets to a particular size.

UrgentDoughnut · 14/06/2020 17:41

Her fb group is absolutely awful. Just terrible. Full of women arguing about topics that CH has given them the green light to argue about - until she changes her mind and tells them, no, this is purely a skincare group and you aren't allowed to discuss the stuff that I'm now bored of discussing

She's disliked in the beauty community and she will jump on any passing bandwagon - this months just happens to be BLM. She's probably taking a week or two off from harassing anti vaxxers or whatever.

A lot of people are in the group purely for the entertainment factor these days. I cannot bear how sycophantic her members are. ' oh our queen' EnvyConfused
