Has anyone else stepped away from Cult Hirons?

I cannot bare her group anymore so I left, it's all a bit of an echo chamber these days.

I find her virtue signalling under the guise of 'doing what's right' nauseating, I've cancelled her book and won't ever read anything she writes again.

She says she supports women's rights but only if it suits her agenda.

Just joined the “cult” and absolutely no intention of leaving.

What she suggests and recommends for skin - suits me. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t join the “cult”.

I don’t give a hoot about menopausal Twitter comments (and I say that as a 39 year old with early menopause on HRT patches!).

I take from these “experts” what suits me. And bugger anything else (short of convicted criminal behaviour!)

Alsohuman · 14/06/2020 17:53

This thread really is thoroughly nasty. I’m amazed it’s still here. S&B used to be a civilised part of MN.

Lottapianos · 14/06/2020 18:12

'She's disliked in the beauty community'

Interesting. Do you have any other details?

UrgentDoughnut · 14/06/2020 18:22

@Lottapianos yes but better not!

TomNook · 14/06/2020 18:24

Remember that video Hughes made though? EMBARRASSING

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/06/2020 18:28

I didn't know about JKR. That's enough for me to leave. I'd long had her down for a beauty industry shill but then so are most beauty writers. They darent bite the hand that feeds them!

Thighmageddon · 14/06/2020 18:40

@UrgentDoughnut

Her fb group is absolutely awful. Just terrible. Full of women arguing about topics that CH has given them the green light to argue about - until she changes her mind and tells them, no, this is purely a skincare group and you aren't allowed to discuss the stuff that I'm now bored of discussing

She's disliked in the beauty community and she will jump on any passing bandwagon - this months just happens to be BLM. She's probably taking a week or two off from harassing anti vaxxers or whatever.

A lot of people are in the group purely for the entertainment factor these days. I cannot bear how sycophantic her members are. ' oh our queen' EnvyConfused

I have noticed recently that makeup, brushes and hair posts are allowed again after being banned a while ago. It doesn't take a lot to confuse me these days so I'd appreciate knowing what 'rules' actually apply.
lindyloo57 · 14/06/2020 19:24

I stopped following her, when on This morning she was showing and talking about all this skincare, nothing was under £50 . I never understand how her and others, recommend skincare for our skin, but fill there faces with botox and fillers. I got slated when I told a blogger I was not following anymore, as she started to use botox and fillers. If that's what you want to do that's fine, but she still talking about creams she uses to look younger.

UrgentDoughnut · 14/06/2020 19:27

I will say though, posters taking pops at her appearance isn't on. This isn't about how she looks - and she looks just fine. You cancel out any valid point you make if you slag off another woman's appearance I think

I just wish she'd stay in her bloody lane. She doesn't merely offer her opinion on a hot topic - no. She hammers it home, bangs on some more and then gives it a good boot just for good measure. She can be very rude to the people spending ££££ on her products.

QueenOfPain · 14/06/2020 19:35

Did anyone hear her on Louise Pentlands podcast with Lily Pebbles? She was just vile, a proper know it all, you know nothing, super mum dickhead. I think you could hear Louise and Lily’s slight irritation.

Maybe CH’s skin itself is good, but she doesn’t look good around her eyes or jowls, but I never expected lotions and potions to be able to fix that.

I imagine she’s one of those awful people in a friendship group who starts to freeze you out and turn everyone against you when you stop drinking her koolaid. Slight fear was the impression I got from Lily and Louise on the podcast.

KitKatKit · 14/06/2020 19:40

I've never been a fan, she doesn't come across particularly likeable or indeed knowledgeable of anything I couldn't easily Google myself.

MiniTheMinx · 14/06/2020 19:53

Thighmageddon, if she were an 'expert' on horticulture, baking, or quantum physics I wouldn't think that her looks were worth mentioning. I am simply stating that whatever she has done to her skin, whatever work she has had done, or whatever it is that she uses and recommends I will not follow the advice. Plenty of comments here that critique her personality, that isn't pertinent is it if she is an expert on skincare. My dentist is brilliant with teeth, but he isn't particularly likeable. He doesn't need to be.

UrgentDoughnut · 14/06/2020 19:58

@MiniTheMinx sadly her personality is of interest. Mainly because she unleashes it unpleasantly a lot of the time. Apart from that, I agree with some of your points

UrgentDoughnut · 14/06/2020 19:59

I also cringe when she goes on about how every woman in the fb group fancies her sons.

Umm they don't. They are maybe being polite (in fear of her) but her sons are categorically not fanciable

Helpthefrizz · 14/06/2020 20:03

With the exception of one poster that I can see, the majority of people have only referred to her skin not her looks.

Skincare is her area of expertise. It’s a reasonable expectation for a Skincare specialist to have enviable or inspiring skin. It’s not being personal or cruel to say that her skin isn’t inspiring when she’s basically trying to get you to spend huge amounts of money so your skin can look like hers.

If I wanted to be a size 6, I wouldn’t follow a size 22 celebrity’s diet plan.
If I wanted to grow beautiful long flowing hair, I wouldn’t trust Sinead O Connor’s haircare regime. I wouldn’t take fake tanning advice from Dita Von Teese. None of these are criticisms of looks, it’s just saying that when you are selling a product and you are the living advertisement of that product you need to look like an end result that people want to buy into for themselves.

MrsKingfisher · 14/06/2020 20:29

There was some furore apparently when someone posted about her being a bigot, a virtue signaller and a hypocrite. I am no longer in her group so missed it I'd have commented! but I imagine there was a pile on from the angry cult members baying for blood that someone dissed her queen.

I'm really not interested in how she looks, I feel she has let women down. Of course she stands with the Bodyshop she consults for them.

OP posts:
UrgentDoughnut · 14/06/2020 20:31

There is currently an active post in her group in which she is defending the body shop - their MLM line. Trying to say they're not an MLM.

Unbelievable

ExCwmbranDweller · 14/06/2020 20:45

I've been on there for a while and it's been really obvious how the whole pandemic lockdown is making everyone (everywhere, in every group and RL people too) start to lose it a bit. I think in the Freaks group it's been even more feverish. People need a focus but, man, it's gone crazy in there!

Feels like a breath of fresh air not to have my FB feed full of people spending amounts of money that make me twitch and it can't be good for the planet to have quite so many tubes and bottles and jars all the time.

Plus I think the Kate moisturiser isn't as good as many other cheaper ones and I don't rate Sunday Riley so there Grin

MiniTheMinx · 14/06/2020 21:35

Helpthefrizz, I agree. I should have referred to her skin. But if i look at her I'm also seeing her looks. If she is an advertisement for expensive anti aging products I'd be inclined to avoid the products she endorses. I don't understand also why in every picture I see she is wearing such heavy foundation. Surely if these perfecting products worked you wouldn't need to cover your skin up? or am I missing something?

Perhaps she isn't a nice person, or isn't nice to people, but if her advice and expertise is brilliant on skin care it would be ridiculous to ignore it. I don't choose a hairdresser who I like, I go back to the one who does a great job. I think the only thing she has done wrong is probably to try and compensate for her lack of expertise by creating a 'personality' This is so 2020 and lacks substance, expertise or talent.

MrsKingfisher · 14/06/2020 21:48

She bullies people, she shuts anyone down who isn't aligned with her agenda. I have seen so many of her rants, I have no idea why she feels she's qualified to tell companies what to do. Telling skincare companies to publish their team diversity figures like a bloody human inventory. Fuck off Caroline.

She is no better than the men telling women that we should accept trans women into single sex safe spaces. She is a disgrace to women and serves only herself. Can we please 'cancel Caroline'

OP posts:
TommyShelby · 14/06/2020 22:22

To be fair, I want to know how much Kate Somerville is paying her. I’ve purchased the goat milk cleanser and moisturiser on her recommendation and I am so disappointed. They are really rubbish.

Bestbe · 15/06/2020 08:32

Tata Harper is also dire

TheCanterburyWhales · 15/06/2020 09:20

Oooh you buggers. You've introduced me to Nadine Baggot now and I'm hooked. (Not in UK and kept thinking yesterday, what on earth is a politician doing branching out into cream) Blush

Railingsohno · 15/06/2020 09:34

Was it not Sunday Riley who was caught out getting staff to post fake positive reviews? Very shady stuff. I refuse to buy anything from them now.
