TOAST

Now I never thought I'd say this, not until my mid 40's at least, but I feel like celebrating the wonders of TOAST! I'm not sure I'm game for the wintry stuff but their summer dresses are just perfect. For years I've longed for the undone, easy linen look but usually end up looking like a sack of potatoes... not this summer my friends!

My dad earlier said I looked "outrageously well sorted" in my new orange linen number - I think he meant well put together, and I've just got the navy on sale on JL. Yipppeeeee!

Would look better with a belt to pull it in at the waist. Completely disagree. The whole Toast look, or this look in general is that it is supposed to be loose, almost or actually oversized, not at all form fitting. It is a fine line, and it can be crossed where the clothes wear the person, but it is a style - and it is a style - that can be incredibly flattering it its own way.

What I would say though is that stringy neck tie thing does nothing but draw my eye in the wrong way, I would chop it off. Otherwise I think it looks lovely on you.

peachypetite · 04/06/2020 16:02

Yeh I get that but as OP says it’s a bit big for her.

GazeboParty · 04/06/2020 16:07

I think that loose waist thing is the reason why I haven't bought a dress from them in a while - I just think the waist looks a bit unfinished, like it needs a belt even though I am an hourglass - belts look awful on me - the sack of potatoes tied in the middle thing - not good.

AmethystMoonShine · 04/06/2020 16:23

@ilovecherries it’s a beautiful dress. I sometimes get a local dressmaker to alter my Toast dresses. She takes them in slightly around the rib cage/waist for me. I can never see where or how she does it! It doesn’t alter the style, but helps to allow for my hourglass shape (shoulders and hips are wide but I’m not particularly booby!) I’m 5’6” and find the lengths perfect.

veryvery · 04/06/2020 16:28

I like some of their stuff but am not that tempted because I suspect I would have to take up ironing big time! Also suncream. I think I'll stick to my jeans and t-shirts and suncreaming just face, neck and arms!Grin I've lots of lovely dresses but hardly ever wear them for exactly those reasons.

Countmeout · 04/06/2020 17:08

Are you sure the smaller size would be too small @ilovecherries might be worth a try to compare. I think sometimes it can be surprising how little difference there is between sizes especially in looser styles.

Alsohuman · 04/06/2020 17:09

I’m with you @fizzpopbang123. A belt would destroy the line.

ilovecherries · 04/06/2020 17:15

Thanks everyone. I wouldn’t wear a belt with it, I don’t think that would work with the under bodice seam. And I love a good belt. I’m pretty sure I couldn’t go smaller. If I keep it, those ties will be gone!

ilovecherries · 04/06/2020 17:21

@peachypetite

Yeh I get that but as OP says it’s a bit big for her.
I guess I’m not sure if it’s too big - there is a lot of volume in the skirt, but that’s intentional, I suppose it’s more about asking if it works.
AmethystMoonShine · 04/06/2020 18:22

They’ve just added more lines to the sale........including the ‘secret’ items some of us found over the last few days! Grin

Zinnia · 04/06/2020 19:16

Ha I came on to say exactly that @AmethystMoonShine Grin

The Riya dress in the sale now - and the top I bought at full price, annoyingly!

houseforanartlover · 04/06/2020 20:23

Oh god, checked the new sale items and just bought another skirt and a dress I had my eye on that were too expensive at full price, damn you MN!

Whatthefoxgoingon · 04/06/2020 21:00

I have something like 20 items now coming thanks to this blasted thread Grin

(It’s ok at least half will be returned!)

OneOfTheGrundys · 04/06/2020 21:23

I’ve got to mute this thread now!!
It’s enabling me to spend hundreds of pounds. 😱 and I must not!!!!

slipperyeel · 04/06/2020 21:40

Just spent another £300 Shock

goldpendant · 04/06/2020 21:46

I'm so glad I started this, you're all enabling me too!

Now, remind me how to find secret sale stuff (do I just search for 'dress')?

OP posts:
OneOfTheGrundys · 04/06/2020 21:47

Easily, easily done.
I don’t need to tell you though... I’m sure it was all well fitting, high quality classic pieces that you’ll get years of wear from!
(Maybe I’m just telling myself that!)

OneOfTheGrundys · 04/06/2020 21:49

Yes OP. Yes, you do.
Then... prepare to part with cash!!!!

slipperyeel · 04/06/2020 21:52

There are a lot more items showing up in the sale now, think they’ve fixed their website

I really fancy the raffia pouch bag, have been watching it for ages but wondering if the strap looks too narrow to be comfortable

goldpendant · 04/06/2020 21:53

I neeeeed the honeycomb wrap thingy

OP posts:
slipperyeel · 04/06/2020 21:56

I think that’s a beautiful piece @goldpendant - very individual and if it suits will never go out of style

houseforanartlover · 04/06/2020 22:44

That honeycomb top is lush.

fizzpopbang123 · 05/06/2020 09:05

I guess I’m not sure if it’s too big - there is a lot of volume in the skirt, but that’s intentional, I suppose it’s more about asking if it works. yes, that's what I meant, too some peoples eye, it would look too big, but I do think it is intentionally that way. You either recognise that, and love it, or you don't I guess.

Have you decided to keep it yet? @ilovecherries
